I know my aunt has a 70's maclaren in her cellar! Butchers stripe in blue and white.
My mum had the red and white one. She used it for years after us kids were too big for it to get her shopping home from town.

suzie38 · 12/06/2011 22:10

It was a blue striped one that sold tonight.

Guildfordnanny · 12/06/2011 22:11

You see I prefer an inline. Today I was trying out the Baby Jogger Elite and automatically with a double I spread my arms / hands. There's absolutely no logical reason for me to do this, but I do. I find that because of it I end up bent over the pushchair, when again there are plenty of higher handle positions on say the Elite to choose from! At least with a tandem, I stand up straight, usually push one handed and don't get back ache. That said it does depend on the double! I don't do it with the Twinner Twist and the Duet was so light to push...I know my children, even the baby, will prefer the bolt upright seats of the +One rather than the slightly laid back Duet seats. My daughter wasn't happy today in the Elite and when we got the BJCM I made sure we got a 2011 with the upright straps on the seats. But hubby prefers a side by side...and is twitching because we don't believe the +One will fit in my car and so he sees no point in getting it (it will be used for walking from the house). But in many ways I have to say I would be happy keeping the Peach until the end of my tandem days...it is doing me proud and the Twinner Twist is a good pushchair. TBH hubby doesn't see the point of the MBs doubles at all but is at least indulging the Duet because I did so much to get to see it. I did make a purchase earlier on the back of another thread...a Mutsy Duo. I have wanted one for ages but have kept being told what beasts they are etc and the reviews are mixed. But I was surprised how cheap they are on EBay. So I picked up a chassis for £50, a new Duo seat and some cheap swivel wheels to try. Will review and decide what to do with it after that! the Contours HAS to arrive early this week - we rarely get post or couriers on a Monday so my bet is Tuesday.the other one I really really think will be good is the Uppa Vista with rumble seat...

Honeydragon · 12/06/2011 22:34

Well I am hideously unfit Grin, the Babboe steers like a dream (big turning circle) but is heavy uphill, I can't do it yet with ds (8) and dd in, but will try with just dd tomorrow Smile

Frigg .... Duet.

suzie38 · 12/06/2011 22:37

Yes, i think a Duet as well.

Guildfordnanny · 12/06/2011 22:44

Wow, you got that quickly Monkey. I bet your children loved it!

aswellasyou · 12/06/2011 22:46

I didn't realise the Uppa Vista seats could face each other like this. The babies could be like this for a while yet although the lower one would grab the upper one's feet. If you do get one, I'd be interested to know what it's like. I'm more interested in the contours though! Grin

Guildfordnanny · 12/06/2011 22:53

Yes, I like the facing option but my toddler is a meanie at pulling the babys feet in the BJCS! However what I LOVE most is that the Rumble seat has it's own foot rest. So you don't lose much of the HUGE shopping basket which is a massive plus for me!

Guildfordnanny · 12/06/2011 22:54

The weight balance should be much better than the BJCS too....

aswellasyou · 12/06/2011 22:57

The basket is massive. I was really surprised. It's as if they realise that two young children actually travel with a lot of stuff! Shock

suzie38 · 12/06/2011 22:58

Yes the Vista has a huge basket.

Guildfordnanny · 13/06/2011 00:32

Do you know what aswellasyou.....this is my main point to try and get across to all pushchair manufacturers. At the very least most mums have a phone or purse on them, plus a drink for the child(ren), after that the basics include either some space for shopping or a changing bag (say for playgroup), and for even more time away from home you need space for a changing bag / food and shopping or picnic, outdoor toys, football, rug etc. It is hard to travel light with children, and especially with two children - and yet for some odd reason no one IMHO can quite get the combination of an easy to push pushchair along with great storage space right!!! I have high hopes for the Uppa Vista with Rumble seat....

LOL I think I probably sat in one of the first Maclarens too - in fact I probably have a photo somewhere here... I think I also had one of the early Britax car seats - I know my mum used to be proud that we had them. I remember it being like red leather with silver buckles!

suzie38 · 13/06/2011 05:48

Mothercare did a car seat that was black with a red 'insert', also leather like...Reason i remember this is because i made a replica for my Tiny Tears Amanda, made out of those old fruit boxes with the metal handle...Used my nana's lace to make the straps with old can pull tops to make the straps adjustable...Said contraption was safety pinned to the back seat of my dad's car!!! He had a few comments made at work...I also made my simple Maclaren buggy into a lay back one, using my nana's lace again, as she worked in a lace factory all her life.

PS...Well the seller of that Maclaren made a fantastic return then!!!

MonkeysPunk · 13/06/2011 06:38

I we had kids seatbelts for our car but not car seats.
Initially my parents had just a motorbike to get around on. With a side car once us kids came along. They would travel hundreds of miles to visit their families with me a few months old in my mothers send and my older sister, a small toddler on the seat and a stack of cloth nappies in there aswell!

MonkeysPunk · 13/06/2011 06:40

Sorry stupid spell check! Me in my mothers arms etc (all in the motorbike sidecar!).

MonkeysPunk · 13/06/2011 06:50

Suzie38 I admire your creativity as a child.fancy you making the first maclaren to recline!!!

I didn't hang about dithering with the weehoo. I did web reasearch, viewed the videos on youtube, then a friend said she had one and they loved theirs. Said it was fabulous. I also didn't know how many were in the UK, and was keen not to miss out. It really does make my bike a feasible transport option. Ds is almost out of the weeride, mostly because the footrests are getting to small for his shoes. I still have the box for it, so will ebay to help pay for the weehoo.
I had trouble finding an affordable trailer with a decent hitch system for a fat tubed mountain bike. The weehoo looked a lot more secure with the hitch part.
I expect Ds will need sunglasses with the weehoo incase of grit. I'll also be fitting substantial mudguards to my bike! Other than that the weehoo looks a lot more interactive than a trailer.

Guildfordnanny · 13/06/2011 10:34

www.amazon.com/Contours-Options-Tandem-Stroller-Ruby/dp/B002R26LZM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1307959509&sr=8-1 It apparently includes postage but you are likely to have to pay import duty (I would reckon £40-50). Much better deal than mine :(

Guildfordnanny · 13/06/2011 11:08

Someone was saying earlier...they contacted Amazon. It does say ships to UK.

Guildfordnanny · 13/06/2011 11:08
