What are the latest mb urban jungle buggies like in terms of quality? Anyone here got one?

FriggFRIGG · 31/05/2011 10:56

It's a v innoffensive buggy to take away as it uses so little space, both in use and when freestanding folded. Esp for older relatives who think a tiny maclaren is the thing to have, even if you can't get it down a muddy lane or on the beach!
The swift will possibly be even better with its swivel wheel, but I like the fixed wheel for truly rough off road. The sort of tracks you'd think twice about walking!
I'll be rather sad when Ds outgrows it.
It's a great buggy for adventures. Not quite so great for grocery shopping mind.

MonkeysPunk · 31/05/2011 18:09

Does anyone know the seat dimensions, esp back rest length, and distance from seat to canopy of the swift? I'm wondering if it can accomodate a larger child than the breeze?

MonkeysPunk · 31/05/2011 18:13

In fact, maybe I need to see a swift irl and compare my breeze side by side with it.
There's a possibility that for me the swift could be the holy grail!
The breeze really is excellent, if it had a longer back rest and the ability to turn on a pin it could be perfect!

ToysRLuv · 31/05/2011 21:11

Lost the auction for the BJ City Series, which is just as well as I don't think DS would like the deep, reclined seat.

The MB Swift looks very good, but has big price tag :( Oh, well. The Breeze would drive me nuts with the fixed front wheel.

Anyone have (or have had a go with) a P&T Smart? It looks great and has just the kind of seat DS likes (bolt upright, chair like).. Now am wondering whether should have bought that instead of the Zapp Xtra, although, in an ideal world, would like both :)

ToysRLuv · 31/05/2011 21:46

Wow, now really lusting after the Smart. I guess I could put a modest bid on it.. After all I lost the auction for the City Series.. Grin My only worry is that DS's (20 months) feet are just going to uncomfortably dangle in air, because he's not very tall.

suzie38 · 31/05/2011 21:58

I've had a Smart...DD loved it as she likes being bolt upright though these days doesn't seem so bothered if there is a recline which is great as i plan to buy a BJC Elite soon...For me the Smart was a fun buggy for going to the park...The basket isn't huge so wouldn't have managed a supermarket shop as i always end up buying tons of stuff...I also prefer one handle and as we live in a hilly area the Smart meant i really needed two hands on it, most of the time...The hood is great in the summer unless you have a DD like mine who hates hoods...Next to no recline unless you rear face with verso adapters but it wasn't an issue for us...Very quick fold up and pretty compact though i do like freestanding which the Smart doesn't do.

ToysRLuv · 31/05/2011 21:59

Okay, I bid on it. But if I get it, it's the LAST pushchair I buy for a while (unless a Swift comes on eBay really cheap, of course). Meanwhile I'll just do some stretching exercises with DS Grin

ToysRLuv · 31/05/2011 22:04

Thanks Suzie! I would like the Elite (or Classic or City Series too) if only my DS was a bit less fussy about the recline. My DS hates hoods too. In fact, just today was thinking that I might as well take the hood off my Vigour, because he will never let me use it. Same issue with raincovers. Instead I carry different clothes for different weathers with me.

I prefer one handle as well, similarly hilly area we live in, but can usually use both hands for steering (only 1 dc), so that's not a big issue.

Sorry for weird sentence structures. I blame tiredness. Unfortunately there's no Wine involved [wunk] (sorry Frigg! Grin )

ToysRLuv · 31/05/2011 22:10

Suzie (or anyone else), does the hood come off in the Smart?

suzie38 · 31/05/2011 22:13

No the hood isn't removable...You have to flip it down to fold...It's extremely thin when folded so probably won't annoy your son as he's unlikely to be aware of it ...Plus he might be happy flipping it up and down, my DD was.

ToysRLuv · 31/05/2011 22:16

Right. I'm sure he will have lots of fun trying to wreck it (as he does with everything else)! :)

suzie38 · 31/05/2011 22:20

The Swift works in snow, i want a buggy i can rely on in case we get snow again and i need to catch the bus to work...Swift looks quite small compared to the Elite i'm coveting...Though i prefer the storage on the Elite plus it looks more luxurious...MB always look very basic...Decisions decisions!!!

MonkeysPunk · 31/05/2011 22:26

Thanks for the link FriggFRIGG! Now I really think I want one - would I really sell my BJ Summit though - or would I miss it? It takes over the entire hallway when I use it - although it does fold pretty fast - but the breeze is okay just left standing (ready to go) as it's not so big.
I like the look of the basket under the swift - the wire basket under the Breeze is not to my taste really - stuff keeps falling out - and there's not much space between seat bottom and wire basket.

However the quality of the Breeze overall is fabulous - really lovely. I do need to see a swift IRL - because on film/pictures they look as good. I can imagine a swift is much nippier in town due to that swivel wheel - and probably as good as the breeze for most off-road situations.
However the huge wheels and suspension on the summit are pretty handy for the beach - where the breeze did struggle with our pebbly beach locally, the summit manages it okay....

ToysRLuv · 31/05/2011 22:30

Both would work in snow, but which ever has the bigger ground clearing would probably be best. Personally, I prefer the "austere" look of MB.

Guildfordnanny · 31/05/2011 22:38

There's always the Urban Jungle? Pretty much the same size as the Swift seat wise but bigger wheels for snow, sand etc. I prefer the smaller swift but could be persuaded that the bigger wheels are better!

suzie38 · 31/05/2011 22:39

Basket looks a tad lower on MB but i'd only go out in settled snow with no snow forecast as i'd be terrified of getting stranded otherwise...But basket easier to access on MB...Elite has those hidden pockets, the one of the back of the seat might be great for raincovers but then the smaller MB hood might take the little one i use on my Citisport as raincovers are only in emergencies anyway due to DD phobia of them!!! And i could buy a console for the handle bar if needed as that looks great on the Elite...But it wouldn't be my main buggy anyway...Big hood great for sun protection but the DD wouldn't always want it anyway...As she's got older she is more flexible ie liked the Donkey hood up when we went to the seaside and it was too windy.

suzie38 · 31/05/2011 22:45

Think the Swift is better for me as it'd only be used occasionally and it'd be better on buses as it does look a bit smaller.

Guildfordnanny · 31/05/2011 22:46

You could always get a new Bugaboo console? I have one on order - I must see if it has come into store! I live live live the storage on the Elite! I sooo want a parent console like the Elites! I like the pockets on the seat backs too. Pushchair manufacturers need to understand that storage is important to parents and children!

suzie38 · 31/05/2011 22:46

And my Frog with snow wheels worked great in the snow last year and that doesn't have 12" wheels does it???

suzie38 · 31/05/2011 22:48

Is the Bugaboo console that bag thing you can put at the back of the seat??? If so some cheeky sods were selling them for £49.99 on eBay Angry

ToysRLuv · 31/05/2011 22:52

I just use a sunshine kids buggy buddy for a console. Cheap and does the job, although will spill contents if you have to fold pushchair. DS loves a tray for his things, as well. You can get one for BJs, but not for MBs (I don't think). I also use handle hooks to transport the stuff that does not fit in basket, so I don't know if a a slight difference in storage space really matters that much..?
