Have I irrationally fallen in love with this property?

If I were free to move, I would view this house tomorrow. Bearing in mind

  1. I'd be happy to move to Beckenham
  2. I like a modern house, I will never live in another Victorian terrace
  3. We want to downsize
  4. We would have money to spend on certain improvements

I'm feeling a bit frustrated that we can't go for it, so please point out the downsides so I don't feel so bad!

Wow! It’s so ugly on the outside I was assuming it’s got some hidden wonder on the inside!

It does not.

I know, I'm baffled. It looks like my workplace 😐which is certainly not charming or characterful in any way shape or form....

LaRevolution · 03/11/2025 10:56

@boxofbuttons I knew that link would be to TMH before I clicked it 😂 LOVE that one.

FWIW OP, I like it! I'm a sucker for a weird wooden interior though. Does anyone know circa when it was built?

Travellingatthespeedoflight · 03/11/2025 11:00

I have a friend living in this street so have been here a number of times. Lovely location and could be nice inside. Downsides are the parking, small garden and space downstairs…

Alliod40 · 03/11/2025 11:21

Ah stop it looks ridiculous for that amount of money..I honestly thought it would say 250,000 lol nah you could get alot more stunning for that money..its like looking at a convoy of flats..good god what appeals to you about it for nearly 3/4 of million pounds

Wellyoudidaskaboutit · 03/11/2025 11:29

I love houses that are unappealing on the outside but stunning inside.

This needs work, and my stupid dog would definitely plunge to his death off the landing, but I rather like it.

holamums · 03/11/2025 11:31

I love it! But thought probably worth about £270000 so imagine my surprise haha! Not sure of the area but way over priced!

Karistyleaftea · 03/11/2025 11:50

@halfandhalfchipsandrice I was only expressing MY shock at the price for that , it doesn't seem fair that houses cost that much in the posters area is all.
No need to be so cross.

GertieLawrence · 03/11/2025 11:50

Namechangedasouting987 · 02/11/2025 19:51

Well it was the 70s. We kinda just got on with it. I never fell off!!!

We used to swing under them like monkeys 😂

Tigerbalmshark · 03/11/2025 12:20

halfandhalfchipsandrice · 03/11/2025 09:12

And they are extremely popular. Don't stay on the market long.

Oh I agree! They are reasonably priced (yes really, about 2/3rd the price of an equivalent period house), often in the catchment for decent schools, and look really nice when they are sensitively decorated.

I just meant that OP doesn’t need to set her heart on this particular one.

LaRevolution · 03/11/2025 12:28

I'm confused that posters keep saying there's no garden other than the patch of grass at the front - isn't there a separate enclosed back garden on the photos?

No
patch of green at front

No green at back. Garages

Overdonecabbage · 03/11/2025 12:31

The lounge overlooks the front patch of green

the back (kitchen) overlooks garages

Doesn't the front (kitchen) have the small patch of grass? (and looks on to the garages)

Then the living room seems to open onto the back garden (photo 26).

What am I missing?

greenwich23 · 03/11/2025 12:37

There’s some in Greenwich like this OP heading towards Charlton. Good transport links. Like Vanbrugh Park Estate, Combe Avenue or Combe Mews. There’s a couple of others too. Walking distance of Greenwich Park. They’re amazing. Ceiling seems to be £640k last year, sales this year £630k https://www.rightmove.co.uk/house-prices/se3/combe-avenue.html . They are marmite, I love how light filled they are and layout convenient for family life. Older DH hates them and he associates it with council house life. Written from my dingy, dark cold Victorian terrace 😬

Youhidaway · 03/11/2025 12:44

I’m presuming the price is in relation to the area because kindly OP, the house is so ugly! But each to their own!

Calliopespa · 03/11/2025 12:48

boxofbuttons · 02/11/2025 21:03

Not the previous commenter, but.... 5-bed farmhouse in Ribchester (nice bit of the Ribble Valley!) for £675k here. https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/160299140#/?channel=RES_BUY

Oh that is good!

Problem is salaries and property prices tend to dance a dastardly tango so many of these comparisons end up being "apples with pears."

333FionaG · 03/11/2025 12:50

I like it, it's very similar to the house my DD has just bought in Leeds (for significantly less, obviously). It's quirky inside and would make a lovely family home. I'm not sure about the service charge though, that seems excessive - and what are you actually paying for?

2cubesoficeandasliceoflime · 03/11/2025 12:59

I think there are nicer 70s style housing about.
This one would be a nightmare to heat and I bet it's really drafty too.

TMMC1 · 03/11/2025 13:09

I assume this is an advert and OP is trying to sell it.

of course you can move if you want to. If you love it put an offer in.

If you are "note sure of the area" how on earth are you able to say "way over priced".

Some posters on here....

bigTillyMint · 03/11/2025 13:13

I love mid century modern and would love to move to a place like this if I could find one for that price where we are. Not so keen on moving to Beckenham though!

LindorDoubleChoc · 03/11/2025 13:27

Overdonecabbage · 03/11/2025 10:42

You’ve established that view over garages, paltry exposed patch of of lawn at the front of the property only, service charge.

And you still would want it anyway?

The garages are at the front. There is a back garden, quite small (which is what I want at my time of life) the living room opens on to it. There are several photos showing it, have another look.

Yea rhst was also my impression- there is a garden outside the sliding doors at the back- the garages are possibly behind that.

HellsBells13 · 03/11/2025 13:30

I like the interior, it gives me Japanese minimalism vibes. It would look amazing renovated, so much light.

Garages are out the front opposite the front of the house. Behind the garden (and trees) are small, not well maintained blocks.
