Huge apologies if I have missed this thread, I have searched high and low but don't think another was started after number 8 ended in May.

After a seriously stressful encounter with building control, I think we are almost ready to exchange. After going on the market last July, I'm hoping we'll move before our year anniversary!

How is everyone else doing?

We are a week away from completion. I cannot wait to pick up the keys and be rid of our crappy rental.

we haven’t actually packed yet so really need to get that sorted over the weekend. Fortunately a lot of stuff is in storage which is being delivered to us on the Saturday.

You’re so nearly there! And having exchanged gives you the certainty. Good luck with the packing, and I look forward to hearing good news on Friday!

I’m still in land registry limbo 🙃

Has your solicitor been able to give you any sort of timeframe?

caffelattetogo · 23/11/2025 11:42

I am new to all this. Our buyers have pulled out. It’s only been a few weeks and they hadn’t had the survey yet. I am so deflated.

kirinm · 26/11/2025 09:34

We’ve handed over all of our money which, I have to say, was quite depressing even though we knew it was coming. Stamp duty was just under £59k and whilst most of it came from the proceeds of our sale, it is still a huge amount of money!

Still hoping to complete on Friday.

NoWordForFluffy · 26/11/2025 10:00

£59k?! Ouch. 😩

But, it's all for a good cause. Escaping the rental!

It is and it’s a lovely house. Not the sort of sized house you imagine you’ll need to pay £59k in stamp duty for but it’s zone 2 so everything pretty much falls into the high value band. Hopefully not to be hit by a mansion tax as it’s definitely not that!

Thankfully it is going to be a very long term house for us.

People outside London would be astounded at what a 3 bed terrace costs. But we are fortunate to be able to buy it.

HappyCrochetHooker · 26/11/2025 12:59

@kirinm Yay! I came back to see how you were getting on. SO CLOSE! Very exciting for you!

Thanks to everyone for their good wishes re: our move. It still feels like we’re living in someone else’s house at the moment - very strange. AND SO MUCH CLEANING. I’m very unsettled at the idea that it didn’t actually look dirty until I started cleaning and then it suddenly became the dustiest, grimiest place I’ve ever seen. How bad is my old house? 😬😁

Oh wonderful ! Just checking in here and delighted to see so much progress. Congratulations to all of you who have fought through to the end. We hooefully have progress too after our first buyer pulled out. We accepted a low offer from a lovely couple who had to sell their flat, our onward purchase agreed to give them time to sell and they have, so we now have an entry date of 30 January, subject to conclusion of missives. However I can't get excited because I found a large breast lump at the weekend , so got to go through the whole is it cancer (gp thinks probably, though of course noone can say for definite until it's scanned) and if so how advanced process now.

HappyCrochetHooker · 26/11/2025 18:14

Oh my god @nonevernotever your post reads as a lot calmer than I would be in that situation. I hope you’re okay.

nonevernotever · 26/11/2025 18:56

I'll be fine - lovely dh, supportive boss and friends, and coping by pretending to be calm (after I spent all of Monday alternately googling and wallowing in misery) 🤣. If I pretend often enough I start to believe it myself. I'm sure I'll get more and more panicky the closer I get to 17 December when my first appointment for tests is. We are absolutely definitely paying for the professionals to pack everything for us though. . I'm not even attempting to juggle that with everything else.

Oh god, I’m so sorry. How long will the cancer referral take?

nonevernotever · 26/11/2025 19:25

Three weeks to the initial appointment - 17 December - I'm not sure how long the results will take though, with Christmas in the middle.

nonevernotever · 27/11/2025 10:15

I don't want to derail this thread though. The support here for all of us dealing with nightmare property processes is invaluable. Today I'm phoning removal companies to get quotes.

Wise move

and pay for them to unpack and take away all the packaging too

Still asking and still waiting. In fact I’ve stopped thinking about it as work is manic and we complete tomorrow and have shed loads of stuff to do.

Isn’t the risk he just takes it out of your deposit?

No. He’s not legally allowed to do that and we haven’t refused to pay bills anyway!

We officially have the house until 15 December and it is about a 2 minute walk away from our new house. Nobody is going anywhere and nobody is doing anything they shouldn’t!

so you do intend to pay? I got the impression you weren’t or you would withhold for 9 months!

Tomorrow completion?

I don’t know why you got that impression because I didn’t say that.

canyon2000 · 28/11/2025 16:25

@kirinm did you complete today?

canyon2000 · 28/11/2025 16:25

@kirinm did you complete today?

We did! Completed at 10.30am and picked up the keys at about 11am

We can’t move in until tomorrow as our furniture is in storage but we took pretty much everything else over. Picked DD up from school and had pizza and champagne with school friends (the parents)!

nonevernotever · 28/11/2025 19:59
