DS moved into his first ever house on Saturday. I knew it needed decorating, but every single wall and ceiling has been painted with silk emulsion. That’s gonna be fun to paint over 😬

Doornon · 03/04/2025 10:19

The three blind mice in my place didn’t cut in any paintwork very well, RIP skirting boards, which might explain why they painted the bloody ceilings the same colour as a feature wall, so to change the colour of one feature wall we have to paint the whole ceiling!

Also who glues on all their shelves and wall fittings? Huge holes in the paintwork from the glue being ripped off and some spots of plaster

2025willbemytime · 03/04/2025 17:51

I might need help finding a new house 😢

Supposed to get top of the chain signed off today. Did not get any news. This is going to the wire and if my buyer pulls out the whole chain collapses.

Abra1t · 03/04/2025 18:23

@2025willbemytime oh no!

2025willbemytime · 03/04/2025 18:39

I have such a hard day. Dog was aggressive with mine who is so gentle and was scared. I've been upset all day but thankfully she's okay. I'm just emotional. Then this afternoon there was another dog incident with an owner who was shit and had no control over her dog and didn't apologise. Then the house news. Which is no news. So fed up. Wasted so much time. I'm trying so desperately to move after an incredibly traumatic divorce and it's just not okay. I'm on my third buyer and trying to buy my second house. Second as in had to pull out of the first one due to lying vendors so five months wasted there and I'm five more months on from that and still here.

Gekko21 · 03/04/2025 20:16

It's a week since I last posted and I see there's quite a lot of activity to catch up on. We completed last Thursday and have now relocated from London to North Yorkshire. The completion went really well. Our removers (we used Bournes for anyone needing a recommendation) were amazing. They did the packing the day before completion and then we were 2 days for driving up and unloading. The completion process was very smooth. We were the last transaction in the chain (3 transactions in total) and were all done just after noon. We were still filling up with petrol in London before setting off up north when we got the call to say we could collect the keys. My mum was collecting for us and ended up sitting on the stairs for a few hours waiting for us to arrive as there was nothing to sit on 😂. We celebrated with fish & chips and champagne.

We set to unpacking boxes on the Friday and Saturday and now only have 7 boxes left to unpack and that's because we have nowhere to put the books in them right now. Our place feels like home already. Our vendors had left the place spotless, for which we were grateful. We've already met two of our neighbours who both seemed lovely and joined the local gym.

I had a quick scan above and it looks like there's been some very positive movement with others completing before the stamp duty deadline. Congratulations to all! It's a tough journey, but definitely worth it!

Deleted as posted twice due to internet trouble

Oh you poor thing. Have they given any indication of when it’ll be finished?! I’m so sorry you’ve had such a shit day.

2025willbemytime · 03/04/2025 20:41

Apparently rescheduled for next week.

Vendor was given confirmation the house would be signed off today last week. If this doesn't go through in April I'll lose my buyer and I will have wasted ten months trying to buy two houses.

And I split the wine my son made all over me, the sofa and my lap tray.

NeverGoingToMove · 03/04/2025 21:07

Is there room for a rant here? Been vaguely following for a couple of threads but everything has just been ticking over so not had much to say.

Found out today that our buyers have pulled out, we've been waiting since November. The only reason they gave is 'pissed off waiting' yeah, US TOO MATE. Everyone above us in our unreasonably long chain has done much pissing about but why now?? Why now when we have a complete chain again and are about a month off?

Back to the sodding drawing board with our house back on the market then, took 4 months to get an offer in the first place. If our sellers catch wind and put their house back on I'm just done 😭

magicmermaid · 03/04/2025 21:09

I'm still on the merry go round of emotion with all of this.
Hopefully vendor solicitor is now being changed as the one they had is absolutely completely and utterly incompetent and has wasted so much time of our lives for no actual reason 😥

Hoping to move in the Easter holidays so children can start new term @ new school. 🙏🏻 🙏🏻 🙏🏻

2025willbemytime · 03/04/2025 21:12

His thread just reiterated my idea from ages ago that we should have a buy and sell thread on here. I reckon we'd get things done a lot quicker. Finding a house is the hard bit but I have faith mumsnetters would get us all housed.

Abra1t · 04/04/2025 07:39

And set up our own conveyancing company. Though my lawyer was great, I have to say. Just sent her a box of chocolates.

NoWordForFluffy · 04/04/2025 08:34

Our new conveyancer was instructed this week. She's already rattled another purchase through in the same building, so we're hopeful she can make up for lost time on my parents' purchase after the last lot were awfully slow (so different to when I used the same firm the other year, so it shows how it's very much the file handler you get).

The Memo of Sale was issued on my parents' sale yesterday and what I assume is the mortgage survey is taking place next week. The buyer is a brickie, so has already spotted works which need doing. I'm hoping he's not the easily-spooked type bearing in mind his job!

Hopefully we're on the right course now after the initial blip!

Offredismysister · 04/04/2025 08:56

I’ve not posted in a while but will be back on the hamster wheel soon.

TLDR: sold in Oct, have a new build to go to with a small developer. Our buyers lost their buyer in dec, but sold again within 3 days, that buyer who is bottom of the chain has messed us all about. Moving date provisionally agreed for mid march but that buyer needed to push back till April for various reasons (divorce, finances etc) So chasing for updates starts again this week 😬

Gottoloveatakeaway · 04/04/2025 12:56

@NeverGoingToMove very similar to our experience. Small chain of 4, all enquiries done. We were discussing completion dates in March, when it went a bit quiet, then the first time buyers at bottom of chain pulled out and it's all fallen apart. Why wait till march! We sold in August - youve had almost 8 months to think about this. We're now back on the market, along with the house we were going to buy. And it's just so damn frustrating😖

You have my sympathy! Our chain is outrageously long with no end of fucking about from everyone above us, the lower half has been ready since January.
The house you were planning to buy, did you pull out of that or did your sellers insist on going back on the market? That is our next fear, that we lose the one we want.

2025willbemytime · 04/04/2025 13:07

My chain is tiny, 3 of us and it still isn't happening. It's been months.

Gottoloveatakeaway · 04/04/2025 14:13

They held for 3 weeks then went back on market @NeverGoingToMove

NeverGoingToMove · 04/04/2025 14:18

@Gottoloveatakeaway Bugger, especially if you really loved the house. Why on earth did they change their minds after that long, I want to give them a slap on your behalf.
We've got two viewings booked for tomorrow, crossing all our fingers that we get a new buyer quickly.

@2025willbemytime outrageous, there was 8 in our chain at one point and it was seemingly going well for a time.

Peaceatlast40s · 05/04/2025 08:18

My viewing yesterday was a bit of a disaster in that they turned up 45 mins early which threw my teenage daughter, who was going to take the dog out 10 mins before for the duration (i was at work) and they turned up with a dog which made my dog freak out (and I have 2 house cats). The same day got an email to say the house we like is being taken off the market for now. Not a great day ! There were tears, followed by wine and chocolate. It's all just such a roller coaster.

NoWordForFluffy · 05/04/2025 08:30

What kind of weirdos show up to a house viewing with a dog?!?!

magicmermaid · 05/04/2025 09:22

Another set back for us yesterday 😥

When you're going through hell keep going right?

Very, very rude of them to turn up with a dog. I would never dream of doing such a thing. Your poor daughter (& cats!)
