This is for sale near me. The DC wouldn't even need to change schools. I think it's gorgeous. Sadly, I don't have a spare £1.2M. My existing house would barely be a deposit!

Luckily for me I hate it

Purplecatshopaholic · 21/01/2025 19:21

Oh wow, that is so me, love it.

Pelot · 21/01/2025 19:21

That looks like someone renovated an ex-council house...

Pelot · 21/01/2025 19:21

And that massive flat roof is going to leak and cause no end of problems.

TheNinthLock · 21/01/2025 19:22

Absolutely stunning! I grew up in a house of that era and my dad had a keen interior design eye, so it was very similar in style (but not in size!!)

Halsall · 21/01/2025 19:22

Have you read 'The See-through House', @IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads? It’s about a very similar house designed by the same architect, Peter Womersley. The author, Shelley Klein, grew up there and she goes back to live with her elderly father. It’s a great memoir.

MurdoMunro · 21/01/2025 19:23

Totally love it. Anyone want to go halves with me? Well, quarters to be fair. We could be a commune.

EmpressOfTheThread · 21/01/2025 19:24

I absolutely love it, my ideal house! I love mid century modern. I could do without the staffroom chairs-attached-to-coffee-tables, but otherwise perfect.

Definitely! We could make it work 💙

HeadFairy · 21/01/2025 19:27

I like bits of it, the interior more than the exterior. But I love that it has a dance floor. That would be the clincher for me.

BridgetRandomfuck · 21/01/2025 19:30

Oh I love it! So light! I’d have to buy all the furniture as well as my stuff would look awful in it.

I have a MCM sideboard and G Plan nesting tables if we need a bit more storage or somewhere to put the martini glasses. Also got one of them long brushes that go on hosepipes for those windows, don’t mind putting myself top of the list for that job, y’know, for the sake of a well functioning commune.

I have a mid century dining table, 6 chairs, an ottoman and a dressing table. I am happy to clean that wonderful kitchen and bathroom. This is a match made in heaven.

icelollycraving · 21/01/2025 19:46

I like it. It does look like the home of someone with an implausibly regular job on a C5 drama.

hadwebutworldenoughandtime · 21/01/2025 19:49

I love all the light and the look but why is the kitchen so small? And a dancefloor?

TeenLifeMum · 21/01/2025 19:52

I wouldn’t call it modern, it’s 1970s retro isn’t it? I don’t dislike it but it’s not for me (I see massive windows and instantly feel cold, but I’m aware I’m a person who is cold unless it’s 30 degrees outside). I can understand why someone would love it but I’m more into the house in sex education. That’s breathtaking.

ffsgloria · 21/01/2025 19:54

Now that is a bit of me! Dream of a home in this style!

LadyChilli · 21/01/2025 19:55

That is so so beautiful.

TheOtherAgentJohnson · 21/01/2025 20:05

I would absolutely love to live in a house like this. They're always set so beautifully in the landscapes too. Fabulous.

DelilahA · 21/01/2025 20:06

Beautiful property and gorgeous views. Shame I live down south!

It was built in 1953, that style is called mid century modern, or sometimes just modern. It's a particular aesthetic.

34NotDeadYet · 21/01/2025 20:09

Oh I LOVE it, thank you for posting OP, I knew this was Womersley as soon as I opened it! Huge fan.

tunainatin · 21/01/2025 20:10

I saw this on wowhauser, it's beautiful.

Utterly gorgeous, but it’s so famous you’d be falling over architecture fans at the bottom of your drive, I imagine.
