If you love a bit of modernism

www.themodernhouse.com/sales-list/farnley-hey-ii/?

This is for sale near me. The DC wouldn't even need to change schools. I think it's gorgeous. Sadly, I don't have a spare £1.2M. My existing house would barely be a deposit!

It's very nice but it looks like the scene of a murder in a scandi novel.

That looks like someone renovated an ex-council house...

Or turned a school into a house.

I would spend my £1.2 mil elsewhere..

MurdoMunro · 21/01/2025 23:01

£10 a ticket for tours, third Sunday of the month, how much of a dent in a 1.2 mill mortgage would that make do you think? There’s the dance floor - cool jazz discos?

MeanMrMustardSeed · 21/01/2025 23:05

This is literally my perfect house

I wouldn’t call it modern, it’s 1970s retro isn’t it? I don’t dislike it but it’s not for me (I see massive windows and instantly feel cold, but I’m aware I’m a person who is cold unless it’s 30 degrees outside). I can understand why someone would love it but I’m more into the house in sex education. That’s breathtaking.

It's modern as in mid century modern. It's actually an architectural era.

The way it's styled, it seems to have a lot of sitting rooms and nowhere to put anything. I always look at house listings with a view to where my sewing room would be. I haven't settled on one as it's dark, despite all the glass. I bet it doesn't have nearly enough power sockets.

mynameiscalypso · 21/01/2025 23:08

I do really like it but I always worry about bird shit with these kind of houses. Do you just have a window cleaner on standby?

StMarie4me · 21/01/2025 23:12

Very Harlan Coben Netflix Miniseries!

I'd like a holiday in it but not permanently. It is beautiful if it's your kind of thing tho!

TheBoysAndTheBallet · 21/01/2025 23:12

What a beautiful house. I would love to just view a house like that, let alone live in one.

podthedog · 21/01/2025 23:13

I kind of like it. It reminds me of a school building. It looks like they finished it and never did anything else to it for 50 years.

MidnightBloom · 21/01/2025 23:25

What a house I absolutely love it sadly though I have no money to buy it. It reminds me of the house in miss marple endless night.

DeepFatFried · 21/01/2025 23:32

If my Premium Bond comes good next month I am straight in!

I will invite those of you who know a good thing when you see it for cocktails.

pikkumyy77 · 21/01/2025 23:37

I love it. But the commute from the US to yorkshire is prohibitive.

Whatzzitz · 21/01/2025 23:42

Love it!

WhenTheyComeForYou · 21/01/2025 23:43

I absolutely love it!

fridaynight1 · 21/01/2025 23:50

I love it but it does look like it belongs in a murder detective series. I'd be forever wondering who was lurking out in the woods.

AppleDumplingWithCustard · 21/01/2025 23:54

Horrible. Makes me cold just looking at it. Mind you, it’s the same age as me so I’m pleased I can claim to be mid-century modern. 😂

ConstanceM · 21/01/2025 23:56

Superb for 1972. Looks like a set from the Shining

floppybit · 21/01/2025 23:59

It's absolute perfection, I wouldn't change a thing.

MrsFezziwig · 22/01/2025 00:53

I have the chrome and leather chair in the third photo, so that's a start...

Seeingadistance · 22/01/2025 00:56

I love it!

I love the house, and also love your idea 😂 I'm not a boomer or an old bag, I'm mid-century modern 👍 I'm still a few years off having spindly, splayed legs but can definitely claim clean lines with unexpected curves and textured surfaces.

DrPrunesqualer · 22/01/2025 01:38

I love modernism but this house doesn’t go far enough tbh.
It has too much of a 70s vibe despite being built before then.

Im an Architect and not falling over anyone for it I’m afraid.

mainecooncatonahottinroof · 22/01/2025 01:40

I love modern but it's too much for me. Just as well because I could never afford it 😂

Actually it doesn't look that 'modern' in the sense that I see it, clean lines etc. It gives me a bit of a 70s vibe - that kitchen!!!!

DrPrunesqualer · 22/01/2025 01:53

Just noticed it’s been up for sale since last May
so
For those who love it maybe you could make a cheeky offer

Garlicnorth · 22/01/2025 01:56

It has too much of a 70s vibe - mid-century modern was from the mid-forties to the mid-seventies. So you're right, and also wrong to exclude the 70s.
