The little things you like about your house

I'm currently really struggling to not hate our house. A lot of it is PND and spending too much time looking at nice houses online. It gets me down almost every moment of the day. So I thought I'll start a thread for people who want to try to appreciate the little things that are good about their home. Really think everyday stuff you take for granted but would actually miss loads of you didn't have it.

I can only think of one thing and it's what inspired me to make this thread but I'm hoping as others add things, I'll recognise more things in my house that I should appreciate more.

Excellent water pressure!

I have plenty of decorating still to do but I love:
The original tiles in our Victorian hallway.
The wallpaper I put up in the spare bedroom.
Lots of lovely houseplants hung up around the house in macrame hangers.
These things make me happy.
I wish my neighbours were as lovely as some of yours though!

I had some positivity to spread but now I’ve just got secret staircase/room envy! I’m away to build myself a blanket fort and dream big.

South facing garden, downstairs loo, easy to heat and mortgage free. Hope you're feeling better soon.

Spacious attics and two usable cellars. The house is in town and literally five minutes' walk from the sea.

Underfloor heating.

Love the gentle warmth that it provides - wouldn't want to be without it in any future home.

Poodleydoodley · 01/05/2024 03:49

13 acres and no close neighbours. The house however - let’s just say it has potential!!!

There is a large window at the top of the stairs with a view of the church steeple. We have the only real grass lawn in the street, and the squirrels love it. There are outbuildings, room on the drive for all our cars, and we are not overlooked. The internet speed is amazing.

Pippetypoppity · 01/05/2024 10:49

The old man who lived here before us put a tiny little tomb stone in the garden for his ‘best friend’ 🥹

Nannylovesshopping · 01/05/2024 11:12

My French doors from my kitchen, that lead to south facing garden complete with gin bench😀

Elly46 · 01/05/2024 11:17

Ours needs a lot of work completing but has a huge peaceful garden and is gated. I didn’t think I’d be bothered about the gate but we like that we can be totally closed off from visitors if needed.

CatMum000 · 01/05/2024 11:52

It's old, and it has curves on the inside bit not the outside. The hallway curves with rounded walls some of the corners are curved, like the corner outside the bathroom. The lounge has arches that seamlessly blend into the walls along with a slightly domed art'deco geometric plaster work ceiling with no wall/ceiling edges it's all continuous. Means we can't have contrasting walls/ceilings as there's no join, and I really love it.

Coastalcreeksider · 01/05/2024 13:24

A mahoosive garage that even with the car in there, I have bags of storage space for garden and house stuff.

Drawback is that it needs a bit of a declutter as I've done exactly what I swore I wouldn't when I moved here, to hoard stuff that I don't need or want. 😆

Plantation shutters in the bathroom are amongst my favourite!

Stoufer · 01/05/2024 13:27

An acrylic bath, that had lots of insulation wadded underneath and around it when it was being installed… so the water stays hot for hours, when you are having a long bath (with a bad back). Lived in a rental house previously, with a steel bath - and the water was cold within 20 minutes, it was awful…

Awwww that's brought a tear to my eye. Can you post a pic? Coming up to 2 years since I lost my best friend.

Youmeanyouvelostyourkey · 01/05/2024 17:03

Our larder which is actually the old stair case

BOOTS52PollyPrissyPants · 01/05/2024 18:50

No houses across from us just fields and view of town in distance and sea if you stand on the wall or are very tall. Good neighbours after having awful neighbours in many other houses before. Triple glazing. Lovely windows nearly ceiling to floor and love my blinds I saved up for ages to buy. Just grateful to have our own home after moving so much and also cannot hear neighbours upstairs as new properties and built well.

Doyouhonestlyexpectmetobelieve · 01/05/2024 19:15

This .. a beautiful view whatever the weather.

Doyouhonestlyexpectmetobelieve · 01/05/2024 19:21

Sometimes I guess we all need to hear something like this. Me included. It’s a very sobering thought. I hope you have somewhere decent enough to live too. Thank you for posting.

I'm disabled and one day I will be a full time wheelchair user. I love that my property has been built for this, it has 1m wide doorways, low light switches and high plug sockets.

asdfgasdfg · 03/05/2024 18:22

I live in a council house so very low rent for the area (East London) but lots of niggles

The stairs have a turn in them. Don't know why I like this, but I really do.

Likewise; we have a fairly large hall and the stairs disappearing round the corner make it feel even more spacious.
