Its on sale in the same area in which I live. Former owner a renowed artist apparently. Its a good price probably cause noone will want it

Am I alone in thinking its hideous? Where would you even start in updating it?

That’s someone’s home you’re calling hideous.

K0OLA1D · 25/02/2024 14:48

It's very... interesting.. isn't it

GoodnightJude1 · 25/02/2024 14:49

Each to their own.

Henowner · 25/02/2024 14:49

I think it's lovely 😍

tribpot · 25/02/2024 14:51

Not to my taste but someone has put a huge amount of work into that.

Cotswoldbee · 25/02/2024 14:51

Each to their own but I also hate it.

If I was in the market and it otherwise ticked all my boxes then I would just have it all stripped out and treat it as a renovation (new plastering, ceilings, kitchen, bathroom etc).
Don't think I could live there and do it up room by room.

stayathomer · 25/02/2024 14:52

I don’t think I could ever have expected that!!!! I think someone will love it- it’s an interesting one, as K0OLA1D says!!!

lotsofpeoplenametheirswords · 25/02/2024 14:53

I don't like it but then I dislike the grey colour scheme that every one in the world seems to have had even more!

Forhecksake · 25/02/2024 14:53

I'd be ok with it. I like the stairs.

theduchessofspork · 25/02/2024 14:54

You’d.. revive the bits of plastic and paint over it

SoupDragon · 25/02/2024 14:56

At least it's not greige.

Twiglets1 · 25/02/2024 14:56

God no it’s horrible

motheronthedancefloor · 25/02/2024 14:56

shrugs It was someone's home, I believe they're now dead. I'm not the first, nor the last, to describe a place as 'hideous'.

I wouldn't want to move in somewhere and spend the huge amount of time/money I'd expect this one to need.

I think it's beautiful. If you don't like it there's no doubt plenty of plain grey houses you could choose from.

BlueMongoose · 25/02/2024 14:58

I'm an artist, and if you think that's bad, you should see the houses of some of my artist friends. 😆At least that one is clean and tidy and doesn't have books and art materials in piles everywhere in a mad competition for which pile will reach the ceiling first, with extra prizes for any pile that falls over and manages to hit someone on the head.

UtterlyOtterly · 25/02/2024 14:59

A million times more interesting than a grey box which most houses seem to be now.

CryptoFascist · 25/02/2024 15:00

I like the bedroom. To me the whole house is fascinating, it's a bit sad to think someone will probably buy it then make it look bland.

Fallenangelofthenorth · 25/02/2024 15:00

I think whatever work the artist did on the flat was a very very long time ago. I do like some of the features, such as the stairs and the table (which will presumably be going) but I'm not sure how easy it would be to save any of it. It probably looked a lot better when it was newly done.

pikkumyy77 · 25/02/2024 15:04

I think it’s horrible because its enormously fussy, the aesthetic is cluttered, and because it doesn’t respect the essential aesthetic of the property and uses elaborate paint effects to make it something it isn’t. The paint isn’t an enhancement but more like stage makeup. Looks ok at a distance but too cakey up close.

Vettrianofan · 25/02/2024 15:07

It's different 🤷🏻

twingiraffes · 25/02/2024 15:08

Oh my giddy aunt. Looks like it should have a blue plaque on the wall outside and be open to the public.

Noshowlomo · 25/02/2024 15:10

I don’t haaaate it

Bobskeleton · 25/02/2024 15:13

It's definitely not subtle. But it's brought a smile to my face!

That’s someone’s home you’re calling hideous.

First time I’ve commented on this thread and I’m afraid I think it’s hideous too. I think we are allowed to say that aren’t we? It’s not a comment on an individual but bricks and mortar. Matters of taste are subjective. It’s a question of different taste that’s all, not a moral judgement. A difference of opinion is just that; not an attack.

I think if you decorate your house in an unusual way, and then want to sell that house, and it goes up on an estate agent’s site for public viewing, I think you can realistically expect some comments about it’s appearance fhs. The first thought that sprung to my mind was nice house but “how much extra cost and work would it take to remove the existing decoration?”

AsTheyPulledYouOutOfTheOxygenTent · 25/02/2024 15:16

I like the bedroom and the stairs. I can see myself buying it, keeping bits and ripping out the kitchen. I think the big question is what it looks like up close, not in tiny pictures on my phone. There's a slight air of grubbiness, which might mean that everything really needs stripping down to the bone and bleaching before you could feel comfortable in it, but it would be a shame to lose the artist's work.
