I confess I know nothing about Art but I think this is hideous!

Its on sale in the same area in which I live. Former owner a renowed artist apparently. Its a good price probably cause noone will want it

Am I alone in thinking its hideous? Where would you even start in updating it?

Goodness. That's a lot of different styles in one house. Someone will love it, probably...

DetOliviaBenson · 25/02/2024 15:20

It's a bit much for a 3 bed semi/end of terrace, but the artwork is beautiful!

CheekyWasp · 25/02/2024 15:22

omg. Game of thrones meets Up Pompeii, I'm half expecting Frankie Howard to pop up behind one of the doors!

zippingalongslowly · 25/02/2024 15:24

It's very impressive. Definitely not for everyone, as this thread indicates- but I love the thought of the artist who lived there creating his own Roman Villa style home near Helensburgh. It's bonkers and fun! I hope someone who appreciates it buys it and keeps the murals.

feellikeanalien · 25/02/2024 15:24

It's very dark. I quite like the stairs. I can't decide whether the bedroom is quirky or truly hideous. As other pps have said it makes a change from uniform grey.

Maireas · 25/02/2024 15:29

£115k for a 3 bed property?! I'd bite their arm off.
As pp have said - at least it's not grey.
No daft affirmations painted on the walls.
Someone has been very creative, it's not to my taste, but it would be easy enough to change.

Janetime · 25/02/2024 14:47

That’s someone’s home you’re calling hideous.

And?

ShrubRose · 25/02/2024 15:33

It's very personal. If you like the Pompeii look, this is your place. I don't care for it visually and I think that stone would be a misery to keep clean. For me it would be a gut reno. That's why it's priced low, IMHO.

Cotswoldbee · 25/02/2024 14:51

Each to their own but I also hate it.

If I was in the market and it otherwise ticked all my boxes then I would just have it all stripped out and treat it as a renovation (new plastering, ceilings, kitchen, bathroom etc).
Don't think I could live there and do it up room by room.

It looks tierd so I imsgine it needs a lot of work. One for a developer.

GettingStuffed · 25/02/2024 15:47

I love the bedroom there's something Roman about it. Other bits I could take or leave but I think the kitchen needs to go

MadKittenWoman · 25/02/2024 15:50

I love bits of it!

Twiglets1 · 25/02/2024 15:54

I love bits of it!

For the love of God - which bits?

Someonescatmum · 25/02/2024 16:00

As opposed to what - grey velvet and a sparkly chandelier?

It has character and I bet the owner is very interesting!

Luckydog7 · 25/02/2024 16:03

For the most part it's just paint on plaster so I could of coats of Dulux will sort that out. The bedroom will be a pain to fix, 3d stone effect on the walls to tear off, those plaster details on the ceiling might damage what's underneath. The bathroom is perfectly nice. I quite fancy doing it up just to see the difference.

Are those the only two choices?

dimllaishebiaith · 25/02/2024 16:10

I think it's quite fun, dont get me wrong I dont want to live there, but I love it when someone does something totally individual to their house rather than whatever is in fashion or whatever sells well

I don't know the area but looking at the other property that comes up at the bottom of the listing it appears quite reasonably priced for the area as if the cost of redecorating has been taken into account

LittleSnowdropsHeraldingSpring · 25/02/2024 16:14

God I wish these types of threads would stop. It’s clear someone loved that home. Probably someone now elderly or unable to do the upkeep. OPs never show their homes for us to laugh or sneer at. Just nasty.

Strangeness · 25/02/2024 16:14

I really respect people who make their home their own little paradise, whatever that looks like to them. You only have one life after all.

handfulofsugar · 25/02/2024 16:14

It is hideous.::::: I love it

Hatty65 · 25/02/2024 16:17

I like bits of it, but the bedroom feels claustrophobic to me. I like the stairs and the living room though.

NonoLePetitRobot · 25/02/2024 16:22

The kitchen is tiny and there's no bath, so it wouldn't be one for me, but I like the unusual decor on the stairs and living room. Not keen on the bedroom, like pp said, a bit claustrophobic. Looks like it's nice and near the coast.

WhoaJayShettybambalam · 25/02/2024 16:25

See I do love art and know about it but it’s not for me, it’s just not my style (Neither is a clear white box aka new build).

Dostadning · 25/02/2024 16:26

I loved it enough to look up teaching jobs in Rhu! Grin
Seriously, the kitchen needs an update - I know, because I have the same bloody one but I like the rest of it.
My concern would be how it's been heated and how the walls have been treated.
It looks like there might be damp and other hidden horrors underneath - again, like my own now.
If I didn't have kids in secondary, I'd consider moving. Have always dreamed of living in Scotland. Tell me everything wrong with the area OP to make me feel better!

BlueSkyBlueLife · 25/02/2024 16:50

Seeing how run down the rooms that haven’t been decorated are, I’d be worried about what is behind all the wall decoration etc…

And yes it will require a lot of work.
And for 3 bed semi, I actually think expensive seeing the amount of work needed
