Most boring place you’ve lived?

I’ve lived all over. London, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Cambridge, and Singapore and Chicago.

The most boring place I lived was Cardiff. Lovely city, but lived in the bay in the redevelopment for 6 months and couldn’t wait to leave.

I lived in Northamptonshire for a year for work when I was much younger. Lovely pretty villages, all the towns were so dull/deprived

My view - old villages are sooo pretty everywhere in the UK... even in boring and backward Northants.

Yes I feel traitorous to my homeland but I find the Scottish Islands dull. Arran, my friends go every year sometimes twice. WHYYY? I find it baffling. The ferry home is the only fun bit.

I think it depends on what you're looking for, it's definitely not everyone's cup of tea, and if it's your main holiday or not. If it's an extra week away, it's lovely as a chance to reset and relax. Walks on the beach, nice pub meals, read a book, family games etc. However, if it's your only holiday of the year, I think it could be a bit of a let down. Especially, if the weather is rubbish.

Eltham. I've lived all over London during my life but by God it's a dull part of the city.

Ever been to Motspur Park? miles and miles (I may be exaggerating slightly) of houses and nothing else. I worked there and that was mind numbing enough - there are only so many walks you can do at lunchtime.

Ditto Mitcham. Seems to be a S London thing.

Also grew up in Northamptonshire, also couldn't wait to leave.

Late ILs lived in a Northampton village. Why was a perpetual mystery to DH.

Now of course I couldn't afford to live in fecking Witney let alone Kidlington

RightSaidFredd0 · 03/02/2024 09:46

I didn't live there but went on holiday to Islay for 5 days and it was so dull. Beautiful landscapes but nothing to do.

An ex boyfriend had family on Islay. It was gorgeous scenery when the weather was nice but awfy dreich an drookit when it wasn't.

Ineedanewsofa · 03/02/2024 09:48

run down small market town in rural north staffs in the 90’s - no internet, one bus per day in and out, nearest large town 40 minute drive away. No decent shops, no cinema, ridiculous amount of supermarkets and pubs.

West Highlands.

If you think the west highlands are boring, then you have a cold dead soul. Do you walk, run, cycle, birdwatch, horse ride, swim, like astronomy, surf, have a dog, borrow a dog, work in the tourism industry, run a cafe, enjoy painting, photography......If you dont like any of the above, then sure, i can see how it might be boring.

Sabbatical times in Australia and New Zealand were an interesting getaway for us. Melbourne was our Australian base and Wellington our New Zealand one. There’s no doubting that New Zealand is scenic and a great holiday destination. I loved how friendly people were too, but it felt like the wayest wayback of beyond. Somehow too laid back for us even though we made great friends

BouleDeSuif · 03/02/2024 09:55

I run, worked in a hotel, cycle and had/have a dog and it was deadly. It rained almost all year. It was a tiny village with two AA groups, a doctor's, mostly retired couples, a primary school and a library.
People told me I was taking jobs from locals.
One bus a day, to another small place where it was also constantly raining.
I like cities and tbh it was a bad idea to go somewhere quiet in the first place! @Boke
It was very pretty when the rain stopped. Grin

Wtf?! Dundee is great!

The most boring place I've been, to be fair only for a month, was Toronto in Canada. I visited a few places close to Toronto as well and it was all as dull as shit

I watched Race Across the World when they did Canada and it completely killed off any desire I’d ever had to go there. It looked like the most boring and soulless place on the planet…even though some of it is staggeringly beautiful.

Dancerprancer19 · 03/02/2024 10:04

I’ve lived all over the U.K. and suburbs in general are not for me! I find them dreadfully boring. I live in a semi rough bit of a city again and feel like I can breath! I cannot cope with people obsessing about their children’s swimming lessons or passing 11plus. I’m middle class but the middle classes really are the pits if you’re a mum. I adore my kids but I don’t feel the need to Tiger mum. Life is short and I want them to have a happy life free from me trying to live vicariously through them! I have my own, happy and fulfilled life. We go to loads of muesums and culture. Diverse schools with lots of opportunity to learn about the big wide world. Bliss!

ViscousFluidFlow · 03/02/2024 10:06

@ThursdayTomorrow London was not boring but I hated living there, had a couple of years there in my late twenties. Lots of partying with wanker banker boys a couple of my friends had really glam careers in fashion.

Butterdishy · 03/02/2024 10:07

Guildford. Really really stuck up, and really really dull.

GotMooMilk · 03/02/2024 10:08

Winchester- painfully white and middle class and full of self important people with no experience of anyone unlike themselves.

sugarapplelane · 03/02/2024 10:08

Wokingham, Berkshire. Boring, boring, boring

I get this, I'm London-born and I love the place but I think if you have bad experiences somewhere it can colour your view.

I had to live with my partner's family in Essex while I was going through PND. As a result I have bad memories of the place and would never voluntarily go back.
