Most boring place you’ve lived?

I’ve lived all over. London, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Cambridge, and Singapore and Chicago.

The most boring place I lived was Cardiff. Lovely city, but lived in the bay in the redevelopment for 6 months and couldn’t wait to leave.

Another vote for Switzerland, Zug specifically.

Pigglingtonbear · 03/02/2024 08:15

Bishop's Stortford

Farnham & aldershot - couldn't pay me enough to go back there, lived there very briefly for uni and would never even go back to visit

I've lived here too. I remember Aldershot had 2 run down strip joints, so the menfolk were happy. The most exciting thing to happen was the Tesco opening and a coffee shop in the town centre that was supposed to mean it was "up and coming". Farnham had some nice independent shops but nothing actually going on.

Littlehampton is shittlehampton

Sadik · 03/02/2024 08:26

Also grew up in Northamptonshire, also couldn't wait to leave.

Sorry - edited because posted twice for some reason

West Highlands.

Frankfurt

it was pre-internet and we spoke very little German, so our only entertainment was walks, a visit to the English cinema whenever the film changed (not every week) , and meals out.

I‘m really glad you added those caveats because Frankfurt has a fantastically interesting cultural scene - but I think you need to speak German to access it properly.

Here‘s another vote for Coventry. Being sent there is definitely a punishment.

Decorhate · 03/02/2024 08:36

Surrey

Leicester, dull and also a bit dangerous, Reading, just dull and the countryside round it is dull, Swanley in Kent, dull and a dry town.

stafford, dull and town centre has died.

Dundee.

Wtf?! Dundee is great!

The most boring place I've been, to be fair only for a month, was Toronto in Canada. I visited a few places close to Toronto as well and it was all as dull as shit

NewYear24 · 03/02/2024 08:38

Thamesmead, when I first moved there the public transport was very poor. It was a mile long walk to the bus stop (that felt unsafe when it was dark) and then twice hourly buses to my school so the school day felt very long.
There were not enough facilities compared to the amount of people and homes.

BarrelOfOtters · 03/02/2024 08:38

At least Surrey has some beautiful countryside and nice pubs.

London.

What a ridiculous thing to say 😂

doorbellcamera · 03/02/2024 08:39

@BarrelOfOtters That's the joy of the UK, usually you don't have to go far out of any town to find some nice countryside and a pub!

AllProperTeaIsTheft · 03/02/2024 08:40

Lincolnshire

I've never lived there, but my grandparents did. I loved going to see my grandparents, but my god I felt like my brain had stagnated by the end of a long visit. It was soooo flat and boring.

Where I grew up in commer-belt Buckinghamshire was pretty boring. Pretty countryside, extremely well-to-do villages and small towns, insane house prices these days, but there is something very dull about it.

BarrelOfOtters · 03/02/2024 08:40

Heresy I know, but Skye. I’ve been there in beautiful weather and it’s magical, breathtaking scenery. Spent a week there in the rain and there’s nothing…..

girlyjim · 03/02/2024 08:40

I didn't live there but went on holiday to Islay for 5 days and it was so dull. Beautiful landscapes but nothing to do.

JanuarySlog · 03/02/2024 08:47

Yes I feel traitorous to my homeland but I find the Scottish Islands dull. Arran, my friends go every year sometimes twice. WHYYY? I find it baffling. The ferry home is the only fun bit.

piscofrisco · 03/02/2024 08:59

@JanuarySlog I lived in Toronto for a year 15 years ago. I also found it pretty dull (once you've been up the cn tower and being to Niagara Falls there just wasn't much going on or much sort of atmosphere if you like) I thought it might have improved a bit by now?

Waferbiscuit · 03/02/2024 09:09

Leicester. Dull, ugly, very dirty in parts, locals who have only ever lived in Leicester. Run, don't walk...

Ohyeahwaitaminute · 03/02/2024 09:12

I think it’s unfair to lump Aldershot and Farnham together.

Aldershot is mainly an ex military area and is a gentrification waiting to happen... It’s pretty multicultural in terms of its residents. It’s very cheap to live there, but excellent train service to London.

Farnham is an old Georgian market town with a thriving university, castle and many live and craft based events. It has some excellent state schools too. It’s hugely popular with families moving out of London, but I guess it’s not THAT exciting if you’re a student.

I think you’re comparing apples and pears!

ruffler45 · 03/02/2024 09:19

Just out of interest what sort of "excitement" are you looking for in a place to alleviate the boredom?

I used to go to Leicester for days / evenings out when I lived in Northamptonshire because there was so much more going on 😁
