Most boring place you’ve lived?

I’ve lived all over. London, Bristol, Manchester, Glasgow, Cardiff, Cambridge, and Singapore and Chicago.

The most boring place I lived was Cardiff. Lovely city, but lived in the bay in the redevelopment for 6 months and couldn’t wait to leave.

I hardly live in an area of outstanding natural beauty myself (outskirts of London), but I have family in deepest darkest Lincolnshire and omg... Their house is nice and the town normal enough to spend no more than 20 mins in, but I feel strangely trapped there and the drive in has an almost apocalyptic feel. You know, the kind of apocalypse where every point of interest or natural feature has been razed to the ground by armies of cabbages? That.

Norwich - safe, comfortable, but more like a big town than a city. Got sick of seeing the same faces all the time. It's also described as the graveyard of ambitions - where folk abandon their dreams just because it's easier/comfortable to stay than move away!

DemBonesDemBones · 03/02/2024 11:53

Sandhurst.

Notthecarwashagain · 03/02/2024 11:58

I’m surprised to see Leicester on here. It’s not boring!

Some parts are a bit of a shit hole, yes. I feel allowed to say that as I am from Leicester-the same way I can complain about my dog, but am mightily offended if someone else does!

I’ve moved around, and returned many times.

Spalding

I love Spalding but I can see why people think it's boring at the same time.

Toronto is really dull. Montreal isn't much better.

Absolutely agree.

Frisate · 03/02/2024 12:07

Egham, Surrey. Just ridiculously boring.

Well I have lived experience and oh they are racist af over there! They don't like seeing change - Made a mistake studying there! So I know what I'm talking about.

What you're describing isn't boring though. In fact, most of the posts on here are not describing boring places. You might dislike a place because it's rundown, feels soulless, you have bad memories there, it's full of people you don't connect with, there's a lack of shops, there's a racist undertone etc etc but none of that is boring.

Falmouth, Cornwall.

Christ alive.

I agree with you

Egham, Surrey. Just ridiculously boring.

How is Egham boring? You're right on the Thames. Take up rowing as a sport or walk along the paths. You're next door to Windsor great park. Go rollerblading/running/walking. You're surrounded by nice pubs, bars, shops, restaurants. It's an affluent areas, so there's no end of job possibilities. There are fast trains in to London. I honestly don't know how you can describe it as boring. What are you wanting from a place?

Cazsle · 03/02/2024 12:23

Can’t remember ever being bored 🤷🏻‍♀️I’m an over-thinker and I just go into daydream mode 😏

crackofdoom · 03/02/2024 12:27

Falmouth,Cornwall
WHAT!
How long ago was this?!
The nightlife and culture is amazing for a small town, greatly aided by the presence of the art college and University. Not to mention all the standard outdoorsy, beachy stuff.

verylongday · 03/02/2024 12:28

Sutton Coldfield. My god it was boring. Completely soulless and full of nimbys. Hated it.

I agree with everything you said and I maintain my answer: Egham is incredibly boring and I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy. Other than the students, which are great, that place is just extremely wealthy and racist people who hate anyone who’s under 40. There’s a lot of great places sorrounding it, and that’s why I moved there and I’m no longer in Egham. That being said, I’m really happy you like it and I hope it remains that way.

Spidey66 · 03/02/2024 12:29

I've only ever lived in London, but the worst area was Edmonton Green. We had a council flat there, so little choice over where we could live. Grey and miserable. We used the opportunity of cheap rent to save up to buy elsewhere and have never regretted it.

Basingstoke....soulless

First job after graduating was the Civil Service when the HQ was at Alencon Link. I got sent on a training course in Basingstoke and it was the longest week of my life. It rained every day (something to do with it being between hills that trap the rain - and I went to a Welsh university, so I knew about rain 😃).

allfurcoatnoknickers · 03/02/2024 12:32

@AndThatWasNY I am BAFFLED at how expensive it is now. I suppose it's because of the station.

Personally I'd pay 400k not to live on an 80s estate in Kidlington...

NecessaryNC24 · 03/02/2024 06:19

Ooh which one?

I lived very close to Stonebridge (NW London) when I was younger. It was er...never boring.

Mine was south-east. More dead than crime-ridden.

AnneShirley18 · 03/02/2024 12:43

Southampton - has nothing going for it.

StockpotSoup · 03/02/2024 12:57

Slough. There’s hardly anywhere nice to go out and nothing nice to see (unless you go into Windsor). It’s too close to London for anyone to bother investing in the social scene; anyone who wants to go anywhere interesting just gets on the fast train to Paddington .

UseOfWeapons · 03/02/2024 13:01

Welwyn Garden City in the 1980s .

I’d say being somewhere run down with poor facilities that feels soulless and where you don’t connect with anyone is pretty boring.

What would YOU say makes a place boring if none of that qualifies?

This made me chuckle

That's good. Cos he certainly did not!

sassyduck · 03/02/2024 13:05

Rugby. Soulless with nothing much of interest.

Sublime66 · 03/02/2024 13:10

for some people, everything you have listed is boring AF
