In fact, this could be that sofa.

Please can someone explain this property to me (esp the “bedrooms”)
soupfiend · 30/01/2024 19:35

Its a great shame at the wasted space with double sinks, 2 bathrooms but with a living room (if you can call it that) with the sofa almost butted up against the sink and as someone else says a bedroom where the pillows can just fall down to the floor below.

Ellmau · 30/01/2024 19:36

It's very industrial looking, and OMG I couldn't with the glass panel in the mezzanine floor. I presume there are wall panels as well to stop you falling down.

Really only a one bed, so why two baths?

The little patio is nice though.

It’s like a first year architecture project that they actually built!
surely that mezzanine has not passed building regs

Came to say this - like an architecture undergrad has a relative who realllyyyy believes in him and doesn’t question any of the utter lunacy here.

how was this signed off on?

wild. It’s basically a scary be-mezzanined studio apartment with a granny annex

the worst part of it all is the close up photos of the hard wear branding. "This is not just a poorly planned nightmare, this is an expensive poorly planned nightmare”

hby9628 · 30/01/2024 19:43

I would definitely roll out of that bedroom into the kitchen. It terrifies me!

Isthisreasonable · 30/01/2024 19:44

The mezzanine is an accident waiting to happen and highly unlikely to be meeting building regs. I wonder what it looks like IRL

NormalForNuneaton · 30/01/2024 19:44

The bedding on the mezzanine bed would end up smelling so horrible ....all those cooking smells.

Nobody wants a bed that smells of the weeks dinner menu

Sarahconnor1 · 30/01/2024 19:45

They call it a detached house, I see a garage conversion

Silvers11 · 30/01/2024 19:51

So weird! No way into the ground floor bedroom except by going out to the courtyard and in through another entrance!

Such wasted space with the 2 bathrooms too. Allowing for the fact that if someone was staying in the Mezzanine Bedroom, surely one bathroom (accessible by both bedrooms) would be sufficient and allowing more space for the living area. And what's with the two wardrobes away from the bedroom?

Can't imagine that anyone other than a single person or a couple with no kids would stay somewhere like that with the Mezzanine just for the occasional overnight visitor(s). It's awful too and something could fall down from above onto someone in the kitchen below. Could be more than pillows too - so I would have thought dangerous? Unless there is a 'clear' barrier in the way which doesn't show in the pictures. They are awful pictures too

It appears to be a conversion from Stables?

That’s effective a garage conversion on an older house. 😆😆

It’s dreadful. The living space is not big enough. It looks so cramped. The bedrooms make no sense. So much of the space is wasted on frivolous crap like walk in wardrobes and additional bathrooms/basins etc.

It was the stable for the old police station, according to Rightmove. Whoever converted it is not good at their job!

SlightlygrumpyBettyswaitress · 30/01/2024 20:19

I came on to say it looked like a 12 year old had designed it on The Sims! Great minds think alike.

Allthegoodnamesarechosen · 30/01/2024 20:30

I stayed for a week in a Flat in Florence that was a bit like this, they had built a shelf over the kitchen ( which was open to the sitting dining area) and had a ladder going up so that people could sleep up there. It was a desperate effort to cram a few more people in as the flat had high ceilings ( not high enough for anyone to stand up in the ‘upper bedroom’ though. Fortunately there was a proper bedroom as well which we slept in.

DH said the shelf was for oppressed dwarfs.

MadKittenWoman · 30/01/2024 20:40

That's truly horrible. They're trying to blind prospective buyers with 'high-end' finishes, but it's all emperor's new clothes.

Them wot dunnit should be arrested, it's criminal.

Crooklodge · 30/01/2024 21:06

There's some photos of the inside on the planning application, what a waste of the building.

Very expensive for what it is. I thought things were supposed to be cheaper in the North.

It's York so expensive for the North. But they haven't even painted the plastered walls. It's all style over substance.

Hummusandstuff · 30/01/2024 21:18

I am pretty open minded about weird layouts but that’s atrocious. Everything in it is ugly. Like when you look at clearance stuff and sort by ‘highest reduction’ and just see a load of stuff nobody would ever want. Those sofas!!

Crooklodge · 30/01/2024 21:19

From my googling of the owner, that's exactly how I'd sum him up.

Mummyofthewildones · 30/01/2024 21:19

Brings new meaning to "I tumble out of bed and stumble to the kitchen" 😆
What an odd little shed!

bookwormcrazy · 30/01/2024 21:23

The wardrobe in the kitchen is really baffling to me.

MumOfOneAwesomeHuman · 30/01/2024 21:31

This is insane. What if you fell out of bed?

(Love your name btw @tuxedocatsrule, and yes they do, I've got two!)
