Was NOT expecting to see a 76ft long conservatory. I rather like it, as absolutely bonkers as it is.

I've driven past this house a few times, only a footpath between it and a reasonably busy road.

TicTacNicNak · 18/11/2023 22:08

I love the first one. Beautiful house. I really like the long conservatory but the thought of keeping all that glass clean would be too much.

Fraca · 18/11/2023 22:45

The price of houses in Darlington is making me want to cry! Would it be completely stupid to move there knowing no one and never having been there before?!

Of course not, northerners are friendly. Do it!

Wow! I love that. I can't see but it looks wooden! Massive orangery on a tiny house. Love it!

I’d understand if if the owners were keen gardeners, but they just seem to be using a giant Victorian greenhouse as a slightly stagey sitting space, so it feels odd and unnecessary.

But perhaps they’ve moved on with their plants, because the house looks absolutely characterless and ‘staged’ with soulless rental furniture? It could be a lovely house, but if you’re not a serious gardener, it’s a bit like having an ordinary end of terrace with the Palm House from Kew Gardens plopped alongside.

I'm thinking they use it for parties. It massively extends their living space.

It's lovely, ready to move in, just one or two things to do for me, starting with changing the wallpaper in the study. I'd love to have an indoor lemon tree.

Oh yes me too!

nozbottheblue · 19/11/2023 04:09

Maybe they hire it out for weddings? 😁

@EarringsandLipstick County Durham is one of our best value counties.

Mini mansion, 650k

Half a Victorian school (I think?, 450k

I love the old schoolhouse, though the garden seems a bit small for the size of the house (though it's hard to tell from the pics and I might be wrong). But it's an MMA house @KievLoverTwo! Are you going to go over to the dark side and bid?!

The glass in the mini-mansion's hallway is stunning, and I love the orangerie thing too, though I hate the way they're using the space inside. You've certainly got some interesting property up your way!

^ Very well put! I was thinking along the same lines!

KievLoverTwo · 19/11/2023 12:16

@DepartureLounge MMA over my dead body. I prefer the mini mansion. Going to have to win the lottery though! I tried convincing the OH that we actually don't need a lifestyle, clothes or any standard of living whatsoever if we lived in a house that beautiful.

He said no.

That conservatory must have cost a bomb. You'd have to get the windows cleaned professionally. I agree a house is for living and you should do exactly what you want with it.
My 3 bed house has no bedrooms. Everyone says I'll never sell it.
The smallest bedroom fits a single bed but it's my office.
The second bedroom is my craft and bookbinding room. It's a double bedroom but no bed.
The big bedroom is my reading room. It has a wall bed in a cupboard that I pull down to sleep and it's goes back every morning. The rest of the room is lined with bookshelves and my book collection and a 2 seat comfy sofa.
All the bedrooms have built in walk in wardrobes with a door.
Everyone says how do you sleep/have guests. Plug in blow up beds is how or they can stay in a b&b.

It is very beautiful, and without question is the first time I have ever seen a bathroom with a roof terrace.

Janeandme · 19/11/2023 12:34

That conservatory is stunning and they have cleverly put a wood burner in there to heat it if they want to use it in winter. Can’t believe it’s such a low price.

Not incongruous, I know this area. It’s a very wine cellar sort of place.

ZenNudist · 26/11/2023 13:35

I'm sad I live in Manchester now. All the cost of pricey city suburb living but none of the chi chi of the South or cheapness of the far north.

Wouldn't move to Darlo though!

Very odd basin in Pic 13 and they're obviously very proud of the landing that shows off the chandelier!

Maybe I'll move to Billingham instead of Darlington (no idea where Billingham is but I'm sure it's very nice).

The basin looks like a urinal with taps - is that a thing?

Closer towards Middlesborough and Stockton-on-Tees; not really considered 'naice', but you can get some heckin' good value up that way.

Middlesborough is one of the cheapest places in the country. Apparently people are flocking there because it's one of the few remaining affordable areas for young families.

Idk owt about Billington, mind.
