Was NOT expecting to see a 76ft long conservatory. I rather like it, as absolutely bonkers as it is.

I would absolutely love that. I love the modest frontage with that amazing conservatory going on behind.

But... But... The cleaning!

I would be driven insane trying to keep it clean O_O

I’d understand if if the owners were keen gardeners, but they just seem to be using a giant Victorian greenhouse as a slightly stagey sitting space, so it feels odd and unnecessary.

But perhaps they’ve moved on with their plants, because the house looks absolutely characterless and ‘staged’ with soulless rental furniture? It could be a lovely house, but if you’re not a serious gardener, it’s a bit like having an ordinary end of terrace with the Palm House from Kew Gardens plopped alongside.

KievLoverTwo · 18/11/2023 13:32

@Bosca maybe they just wanted more floor space to escape one another.

I am dreaming of a house with two separate wings so the OH and I can feel like we are in different villages :D

It's lovely, ready to move in, just one or two things to do for me, starting with changing the wallpaper in the study. I'd love to have an indoor lemon tree.

KievLoverTwo · 18/11/2023 13:38

@JoyandNoel so would I. I bet it smells devine.

I could live there quite happily except for two little niggles. The round conservatory would have to have roof blinds so the neighbours couldn't look in, and how tall is their cat?? That catflap is positioned very high 😯

meagert · 18/11/2023 13:44

Ha, looks like a garden centre extension!

KievLoverTwo · 18/11/2023 13:46

@AutumnFroglets Ha. DIY accident, I reckon. Our joiner measured our cats before cutting the hole. I bet there's now a little step in front of it.

nah"! I am not up to washing all that glass!!!

I love that house and I want it.

quivers · 18/11/2023 14:02

I'd love that - but then I'd use it as a proper actual conservatory, with plants in and everything. Always wanted one.

Stresa22 · 18/11/2023 14:04

I love this! I definitely love the garden!

Roussette · 18/11/2023 14:08

I hope they got planning permission for that conservatory, because you can't put one up that size without it!
All that glass would be a nightmare to keep clean especially the roof. We had a roof like that on our small conservatory and we had to pay someone far too much every year to clean it!

I know Canynge Square... it's lovely and verrrrrr expensive!

It's original Victorian, bit late now

They didn't put up the conservatory though?
From the brochure: 'a truly unique feature in the form of the most impressive conservatory which was part of the Victorian Haughton Hall. The conservatory was built by the Richardson brothers and is believed to be the only surviving example of their glasshouses in their home town of Darlington'

It's a gorgeous well-maintained house. Can't believe it's not going for more (am in Ireland so don't know the areas well enough).

It's worth actually reading the estate agent text, it explains why it's there.

EarringsandLipstick · 18/11/2023 14:20

Oh wow OP. These look amazing. Want to live there!

Roussette · 18/11/2023 14:22

Sorry didn't read the blurb

Fizbosshoes · 18/11/2023 14:22

I feel chilly just looking at the pics of the victorian school!

longtompot · 18/11/2023 14:24

I absolutely love that house @KievLoverTwo ! The garden is incredible too

KievLoverTwo · 18/11/2023 14:25

@Fizbosshoes which is probably why it is up for auction. Most of us mere mortals couldn't afford the heating bill these days.

We had to abandon any plans of using the electric aga in our rental when price rises meant it would cost over £120 a week just to cook (maybe that one isn't electric?)
