A house in my road was lived in by a hoarder and was in a far worse state than this. After a house clearance the purchaser (a local builder) stripped it right back to brick inside, reconfigured it and moved in himself. It's beautiful now, completely unrecognisable.

This one would probably need less work as it's not an old house, just mainly cosmetic changes. The thing that would worry me if I was buying (as PPs have said) is that I wouldn't get vacant possession on time.

EufyProsser · 16/09/2023 08:11

That's

languagestudenthost · 16/09/2023 08:17

The house is cluttered, the owner clearly has health/ mobility issues which is why it's got to that point. Also looks like there is a child with a teddy hoarding issue which is common with SEN. It's not dirty and the garden is well cared for. I have a friend whose house is like this - she struggles with ADHD

This wouldn't put me off at all, I'd rather redecorate to my own tastes

Gatekeeper · 16/09/2023 08:20

Are there mirrors under the four poster or is it light panels???

MissingMoominMamma · 16/09/2023 08:23

You can never have too many knives or teddies….

oh, wait…

SiouxsieSiouxStiletto · 16/09/2023 08:24

I thought that the number of knives was disturbing until I say the amount of teddies.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/09/2023 08:27

They have a bear room - like I have

Well did have. It's now mini blondes bedroom and many of the bears went to my local oldies home as many of them like to cuddle something so bears now have a good life

House is very cluttered. Much worse then mine and that's saying something

But hopefully it will go with the sellers

Layout a little weird upstairs

Thmssngvwlsrnd · 16/09/2023 08:27

I only have one decent sharp knife in my kitchen drawer (none on the walls) so now I have knife envy. Presumably they would have taken all that stuff with them, so it's probably quite a nice house underneath.

PuttingDownRoots · 16/09/2023 08:28

Its got potential. Somehow attach the ensuite to bedroom not bedroom four. Split the bathroom to make a new ensuite, and take a bit of bedroom 1 to make a hallway. Decorate throughout. Weed the garden.

TheDaphne · 16/09/2023 08:30

Tbh, I’m equally baffled as to why people can’t see past temporary untidiness or decor choices that aren’t to their taste. I mean, you get that the teddies aren’t included in the sale, right?

Totally agree, I find it really odd that so many people can’t see past other people’s possessions or decor!

The main thing that would put me off the house is the odd layout of the extension bedroom but it looks structurally ok and I don’t know the area to comment on the price.

I've bought houses in the past where the decor has been horrendous. So yes I can see past it. Doesn't stop me commenting about how bad the decor is though as surely that's the point of the thread?

HateTheView · 16/09/2023 08:46

LoonyLois · 16/09/2023 06:19

Bedroom 4 is a bit wacky too, you can only get to it through the bathroom yet it also has a toilet the other end!

I noticed that too!

Maybe it's in case someone is using the main bathroom and the person is trapped in their room and needs a wee! At least they can use the loo, even if they can't leave the house!

purpletrees16 · 16/09/2023 08:52

I bought a house where I couldn’t get into one of the rooms due to the piles of records and magazines. Nick knacks everywhere. It didn’t smell. I definitely paid less than I would have had they cleared it out.

My parents found it horrifying but it’s was a hot market. He had all the right building paperwork for the extension and actually the fittings where of good quality.

i just stipulated very strongly empty possession with my solicitor - even said “including attic”. But he loved his stuff so it all went with him.

ironically he took all the light fittings with him and curtains and ancient washing machine. It was like sure!

I’m doing it room by room. In fact, just had the paper storage room replastered for the nursery!

The OP only says ‘how did this sell, madness’, implying that nobody can see through the decor.

natura · 16/09/2023 09:07

Oof, I felt weirdly sad looking at those pictures.

I hope whoever lived there is OK.

isthismylifenow · 16/09/2023 09:15

Why is it madness to some?

You buy a house for the house. Not for what is inside of it and how the person selling chooses to live.

I don't understand this post at all.

EconomyClassRockstar · 16/09/2023 02:04

You spend THREE HUNDRED THOUSAND POUNDS on a tiny end of a relatively new build terrace?! You really are screwed.

300,000 wouldn't get you a 4 bed end of terrace where I am. I'd take someone's arm off to get a 4 bed for that sort of money!

CornedBeef451 · 16/09/2023 09:39

The layout of the extension is really weird and would put me off, I could probably look beyond the decor and clutter.

Our new house was very cluttered when we came to view it. So many incidental tables covered in photos it made it hard to navigate, the dining room was completely full of very old, dark furniture and massive corner shelves. The kitchen was covered in clutter plus full of two small snappy dogs and the office and utility iff the kitchen were hard to get into because of all the stuff.

We bought it because from the floor plan I knew the rooms were the right size and would suit how we live and it feels like a completely different place now.

Saying that, we do have a lot of knives on a magnetic strip that was already here, possibly as many as in the photos, and this is after a massive declutter of our own stuff.

For us it's because we both cook and have different favourite knives so they all get kept!

LifeInTheUK · 16/09/2023 09:43

Two things I would struggle

  • bedroom 1 has no windows at all
  • bedroom 4 is only accessible via the bathroom or bedroom 1.
The issue here isn’t the mess everywhere. It’s the layout of the house.
steppemum · 16/09/2023 09:51

I love houses like this.
You get a good solid house for a bargain.
When I move in somewhere I always redecorate, so that never bothers me.

For me it is factoring in - how much will it cost in skips etc to clear anything I don't want.
How much to replace the bath
Can I just paint some of that wood or does it need to be stripped out etc.

I am always baffled as to why people can't see past this stuff

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 16/09/2023 09:53

Bradford has houses of all price ranges and plenty of very expensive properties. What's your point?

It's not tiny. Are you on glue?

Give0fecks · 16/09/2023 09:56

I love the juxtaposition on MN.

these threads and everyone says “can’t you see the potential, more fool you if you pass this up, it’s a good deal”

But on the “how do I sell my house” threads where a spotless house gets ripped apart because of the wrong colour grey 🤣 and it’s “you’re house is awful, I wouldn’t buy it”

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 16/09/2023 10:01

Is the OP jealous?
