It’ll be fine when all the shits out 🤷‍♀️

I've bought houses in the past where the decor has been horrendous. So yes I can see past it. Doesn't stop me commenting about how bad the decor is though as surely that's the point of the thread?

The OP’s title is ‘How on earth did this sell???’

It sold because many people can see through clutter and decor decisions.

Honestly, most of the comments on many of these threads or the perennial ones about ‘Why isn’t my house selling?’ are from the kind of people who positively pride themselves on ‘not being able to sit down at night’ till the house is tidy, and who install hot water taps in order to achieve the personal nirvana of having completely empty worksurfaces in their kitchen.

vestedinterests · 16/09/2023 10:05

I am not on youtube but after seeing this I would love to set up an account and film one of those decluttering videos

Liz1tummypain · 16/09/2023 10:13

Ha! Maybe the owners have got some kind of emotional hangups which cause them not to put anything away but even so, it's pretty darned refreshing to see real, lived-in houses. None of that minimalism shit.

LuckyLuckyWoman · 16/09/2023 10:16

Think they need to get Stacey Soloman and her clearing bunch round for a sort out.

Re the knives, we have similar, DH is the cook in this house, he has a different knife for everything 🙄

YukoandHiro · 16/09/2023 10:16

The teddy bears 😱

Suspect it sold to a developer/flipper. It's a decent size, could sell on for £500k with £100k investment

septemberoctobernovember · 16/09/2023 10:18

Looks like a good price and a fair size for that kind of house. Great potential and those houses are always snapped up if the price is right.

Janieforever · 16/09/2023 10:19

Of course it sold. It’s just clutter. You don’t buy the clutter. Just the empty house.

theawkward · 16/09/2023 10:20

Wow it’s like a church jumble sale in a garage and with elements of a greenhouse and slaughterhouse . Eclectic

Daffodilwoman · 16/09/2023 10:23

OMG thank you for posting this. Makes my house look like a palace!
I also thought it might be a wobble in the bath. What on earth is going on.
At least the buyers can have a good clear out.

lljkk · 16/09/2023 10:31

I like it a lot!
I don't like their stuff, but presumably that wasn't included in sale.

SleepingStandingUp · 16/09/2023 10:32

House is great, garden no so much so yeah, with 3 kids that's an issue.
Depends what's actually cleared before selling but
We had a sofa like that, second hand and it was amazing so I'd be getting that checked over and cleaned and used.
The beds etc, frames can be sold or donated of not needed.
Same for lots of the other bits. If you could build in a few weeks before you had to live there, you could clear a lot without need for a skip.

The rest is surface.

No idea on the price point for that area but we'd pay that where we live

Whatfreshhells · 16/09/2023 10:36

When I came to view this house… it was so cluttered you couldn’t even see some of the walls. The kitchen was so dirty it actually smelt and had flies and I wasn’t sure what colour the cupboards were, the gardens were overgrown, there was no central heating and I could touch all four walls of the bathroom at the same time. I paid £2.5k for a professional removal company to move this family out because I knew they planned to make multiple trips in an estate car and the whole day was going to be a shitshow…
we lived in a hotel for two weeks while we gutted and cleaned the house.
but I’ve paid less that £300k now for a semi detached house in north London which I’ll live in forever and it’s completely unrecognisable. I think there’s still some of their shite in the loft, thing is though, everything goes with the owner and you’re left needing to paint and lay flooring or have a new kitchen put in. What the house looks like now is completely irrelevant.

LogicVoid · 16/09/2023 10:44

It's really sad though. Like someone has had a traumatic experience and is mentally fragile.

I thought about someone with a disability - eg developed long covid - and can’t keep up with the cleaning and tidying.
Also a possible hoarder.

RunAwayTurnAwayRunAwayTurnAway · 16/09/2023 10:01

Is the OP jealous?

Yes it's the most likely explanation. When you look past the knives and the teddies and bedroom 1 not having a window.

Possible hoarder? 😂

Snugglemonkey · 16/09/2023 11:35

The stuff would not put me off. It would all be going anyway.

I would not buy it without pricing up the reconfiguration of upstairs. Bedroom 1 needs a proper window and I would make it ensuite. Bedroom 4 needs proper access and I would have it ensuite. The bathroom needs reconfiguring too.

The biggest off-putting factor to me is the garden. The extension renders the garden too small for a family I feel.

Gettingbysomehow · 16/09/2023 11:37

I used to live in Kempston, so not only is the entire house awful but the area is the most boring place on earth as well.

Tellerium · 16/09/2023 11:38

It's a decent price for that part of the world I imagine. Someone willing to put a bit of work in could make it lovely and turn a profit.

Oblomov23 · 16/09/2023 11:38

Eh? I'd buy it. It's got potential. A few visits to the tip/dump and I'd be ready to give it a good clean and then strip wallpaper, redecorate, paint it white, easy.

housethatbuiltme · 16/09/2023 11:57

Wonder if they will sell me their sofa for an affordable price, I'm looking to buy that EXACT one... it 4k+ new for the set.

You have to remember the owners are taking all their clutter with them and decor is easily changed if you don't like it.

It's the HOUSE people are buying.

I also love the quirk of the bathroom (although Id break my neck on those stairs).

Ivebeentogeorgia · 16/09/2023 11:57

Baffled by bedroom 4- what is someone’s in the bathroom? How to they get in?!

WellThisIsFun1 · 16/09/2023 11:58

I genuinely love that bathroom.

Who keeps a teddy bear in the bath though?

PurpleBananaSmoothie · 16/09/2023 12:01

The house is clean, just cluttered. The clutter is organised and clearly well loved items that will likely be going with the occupants. If not, you get a house clearance and claim the costs after. It’s dated but even though it’s dated, the photos show it is in good overall condition (the panelling isn’t peeling or rotting). It’s a house that has been cared for and looked after. The floor plan upstairs is odd but there’s a lot of space and potential.

It shows how lacking your imagination is if you can’t see past the clutter and decor for why someone buy the property.
