Fréjus

Scotland. DH has family there (we live in England) so we're usually staying in spare rooms or on couches at relatives houses. It would be lovely to have the space to just be ourselves after spending time with them.

I live in the West Mids. and I would like a second home in a smallish, pretty town. I like riverside towns as opposed to a seaside town. Bewdley in Worcestershire is one that comes to mind, but I can think of several others.

TenOhSeven · 23/07/2023 08:32

I would not own a second home even if I could afford one. They are morally wrong when many people don't even have a first home, especially in rural/seaside areas.

Menopants · 23/07/2023 08:41

Oh don’t be so joyless . It’s hypothetical.

nw scotland right on the coast with a white sand beach

Salcombe or Rock

Wintersgirl · 23/07/2023 08:47

I think the same. Id spend a couple of hundred thousand on a Winnebago Class A.

Neither would I but it’s a little fantasy game.

I’d love a place in coastal Victoria around Apollo Bay somewhere.

Impossible anyway as you can’t fly to the other side of the world for the weekend, plus there’s the environmental aspect and the moral aspect of owning a second home. But in this game that’s what I’d choose!

I’d also have a London townhouse and a pied à terre in Paris thanks very much 👌🏻

Yiayoula · 23/07/2023 08:51

@LMNT - yes yes yes to the Winnebago !
Or a genuine (fully restored) Romany caravan, and the horse to go with it , might be a safer option for me now…..

HiHoHiHoltsOffToWorkWeGo · 23/07/2023 09:16

Nowhere because I'm not immoral enough to hoard more housing than I need during an acute housing shortage.

MTGBTTATP · 23/07/2023 09:27

A city with a vibrant changing scene so that there was something new to see on each visit. London would work but not Mayfair somewhere more hip and fun.

OhSmitty · 23/07/2023 09:29

OP, you're going to be savaged by the morally superior "second home owners are evil incarnate" crowd unfortunately.

Personally I love the Lake District or South Scotland.

Fretfulmum · 23/07/2023 09:32

London in Maida Vale/Marylebone. Close enough to the west end, but less touristy. Just need that £2m now…

It's pretty morally dubious to be hoarding houses when there are so many unable to afford basic housing though. There are entire streets in my next village over that are holiday homes. The place is dead for 10 months of the year, local school has closed, businesses open only for a few months.

i bet your a laugh at parties.

Salcombe 💯

KievLoverTwo · 23/07/2023 09:41

I would hire a chauffer to drive us to all the nice places rather than potentially get bored with one after several years.

Preferably one that looks like Cillian Murphy, though the OH might raise an eyebrow at that, and I am sure it would be discriminatory to put that on an advert.

How is the view up there?

minipie · 23/07/2023 09:47

I would have said Greek islands in a heartbeat, but the rising temperatures and fires… 😢

Florissante · 23/07/2023 09:57

Somewhere Mediterranean by the sea.
