@MTGBTTATP we walk past that house quite regularly and we reckon it's been a holiday home in recent years ... before it was more homely with a boat in the garden and stuff.
and the basic interior and furniture sort of confirm that.

The garden is right on the coast path so very public but perfect for a bit of nosey as you walk past and daydreaming of living in the house.

It must have been inherited- no one would spend that money on a property and furnish it like that, it’s awful - they’d surely pay someone to furnish it?

I presume it's been in the same family for a while. It's the first time it's been on the market for 50 years

DH and I were daydreaming about this place having walked past last week @IhearyouClemFandango https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/133520513#/?channel=RES_BUY

£2.95m for that! Clearly someone with a local job will never be able to afford that. It's a wonder the Cornish haven't been taking inspiration from Meibion Glyndwr.

Mebyon Kernow are taking non-violent steps to try and tackle this massive problem. I think holiday homes are disgusting and am stunned by the fact that people buy second homes in places that they claim to love, thus slowly killing the communities in those places. But I think Meibion Glyndŵr made things worse- You couldn't have a conversation about the damaging impact of second homes for years without being thought to be condoning criminality.

I hadn't heard of Mebyon Kernow - thanks for the info. Meibion Glyndwr was before my time, so I have to admit the subtleties of the conversation have passed me by.

However, I live in a part of Wales that has some tourists, but not nearly as many as Pembrokeshire or Gwynedd.

Between my partner and I, we have privately rented 3 properties in the last 5 years, before becoming FTBs last year.

Of those three properties, two are now Airbnbs, not homes. In the building I rented in last (house converted into flats), when I moved there in 2018 all three were occupied full time. Now 2 out of 3 are Airbnbs. The rate of change is alarming.

Meanwhile we have an acute housing shortage, with demand vastly outstripping supply. I let out my spare room to a lodger and was inundated with enquiries despite having to inform them that there were building works going on and no kitchen, albeit with a reduced rent to compensate. I didn't think I'd have any takers; I had lots. The room was taken by a young woman in a professional job who earns more than I do.

Just to add - I have no objection to people who move to an area and live there full time. That's normal migration, and if the Welsh want the option to move to London or Bristol full time then they have to accept the reverse.

I wholeheartedly object to homes being turned into hotels, while hotels are turned into inadequate homes for the homeless, labelled as temporary accommodation.

I'd merrily ban Airbnb for any property that could reasonably be lived in full time - shepherd's huts and caravans can stay on Airbnb, but there should be no room for 3 bed semi-detached houses there.

Am absolutely with you!

I would not own a second home even if I could afford one. They are morally wrong when many people don't even have a first home, especially in rural/seaside areas.

I agree. I'd rather stay in a nice hotel in my favourite holiday places anyway. Let someone else do the work!
