We've just put our house on the market having just finished renovating it. The estate agent advised us to have a company come and take the photos for the brochure which we did and paid for.
I cant shake the feeling that they're just a little underwhelming. The estate agent has suggested we take some more 'lifestyle' photos that they could add to the listing but ive realised I'm no photographer and they just look a little crap!

Do you think it would be worth getting the photographer back or am I overthinking it and the photos are fine?
Here's the listing: https://www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/137062946#/?channel=RES_BUY

I had to get the photos in MY house re-done as they didn't show it off properly. I think the new ones do the house justice? Whaddya think?

Mansion with panoramic views Grouville : a Luxury Estate for Sale - , Grouville Property ID:675 | Christie's International Real Estate (christiesrealestate.com)

Well it's ok I suppose, but your swimming pool looks a bit "poky". Can you not get them back with a wide angled lens?

BunnyBettChetwynd · 10/07/2023 21:01

The floor plan shows the flow.

Hibiscrubbed · 10/07/2023 21:01

Not really. Just not giving the OP what she wants. “Didn’t realise I’d posted in AIBU” my derrière. Though I daresay the thread will gain traction well and lead to a sale.

Loobydoobies · 10/07/2023 20:15

Maybe missing the point, but why are you paying for photos? Every estate agents where we are includes them in the package...

I'd bet they haven't but they just want an excuse to post the link to their expensive house to let the plebs on MN see how the other half live

meddysam · 10/07/2023 21:03

Is there 2 front doors?

Chewbecca · 10/07/2023 21:03

And is the utility really only accessible from the garden?

Therearetoomanyofus · 10/07/2023 21:03

@Hibiscrubbed I didn't post in AIBU.... 🙄

Make sure the artwork isn't expensive as, if it is, and bearing in mind it won't be left anyway, I think I'd avoid advertising that you own it on rightmove!

Happyhappyday · 10/07/2023 21:04

The colors look kind of washed out/brown to me. They also seem slightly blurry? Not very sharp? I’d get someone else to come back and do some better ones.

Mischance · 10/07/2023 21:05

Well ... going against the trend here .... I think the house is the problem. If I had that sort of money, I would not buy this.

But the photos are so blatantly wide angle to the point of distortion. Leaves you wondering what the place really looks like.

I speak as a retired photographer.

Sycasmores · 10/07/2023 21:05

For that price range no those aren't really acceptable especially the ones of the front. The angles are awful and make it look poky. Why is that fence there? Is the annex over to that side in the front? If it doesn't sell I'd lose the fence and retake the front with better angles and wait for the roses to bloom. The beds need to be pulled away from the walls. The massive booze collection needs to be hidden with just a few things like shakers or whatever put up there. You really need a staging company to come and sort it and bring their photographer.

InceyWinceySpidy · 10/07/2023 21:05

Photos 8-12 are particularly bad. They also seem to like standing behind furniture, then include the furniture half cropped in the picture. Odd.

whatatime · 10/07/2023 21:06

Seriously though where are your curtains and blinds??

inthenameofpride · 10/07/2023 21:07

House is lovely but photos are awful. I don't think you're showing off at all. I could do better walking round taking snaps with my iPhone. When I had my place photographed (for free) to sell I was amazed at how much better the place looked in the photos. They picked out lovely little nooks and details. Probably the opposite in your case. Unless you enjoy views of the back of a sofa.

BananasinBurley · 10/07/2023 21:09

Hello, near neighbour 😀
The photos are indeed, a bit shit. Why didn't you use Spencers, just out of interest?

yipeeyiyay · 10/07/2023 21:09

Oh op you didn't realise? Anyone with a house over the nation average isn't allowed to ask questions on here. You will be and have been accused of boasting.

Anyway. Pictures could be better. Why is some of the house completely bare and other parts like the dining table laid out? It's peculiar. The dark green room is a very weird shot. Looks like the sofa and table are superimposed . I would but be happy.

EarringsandLipstick · 10/07/2023 21:10

CapEBarra · 10/07/2023 20:55

And that green room would be very hard to live in and very hard to paint over - can you get them to photo it so it looks a bit lighter? They’ve also made the flooring look very grey which says laminate to me, and I wouldn’t be expecting than in a house of that value, so make sure you get them to warm that up.

Oh sweet Jesus. These comments!

Chewbecca · 10/07/2023 21:10

BunnyBettChetwynd · 10/07/2023 21:01

The floor plan shows the flow.

Only kind of. Say for example 'picture number 23' - which bathroom is that? The pictures need to be labelled with what they are of and need to be in a sensible order so you 'walk through' the house and get a real sense of it. Finish the main house, move on to the cottage - front door of that and work through it.

Some greenery / flowers would help break up what people are seeing as cold too. Plus the front flower beds look rather spartan and dead, I bet there are nicer sections of the garden.

yipeeyiyay · 10/07/2023 21:11

uniresearch2023 · 10/07/2023 20:18

The photos are average tbh, but my question is - where are your curtains?? How does anybody get any sleep in your house?

There are recessed blinds aren't there?

Therearetoomanyofus · 10/07/2023 21:11

@BananasinBurley I'll pm you

@Therearetoomanyofus

your house and the photos of it are lovely op

when people have clearly done well and been successful career wise and financially I am always so curious as to what they do! As in what line of work are you and your partner in?

Jennalong · 10/07/2023 21:11

Can't stand photos that have been stretched to make rooms look larger ( you can easily tell , e.g your freestanding mirror )
How big is your garden, they haven't shown much of it ?
Why is there an almost close up of the back of your sofa ?

Mumtothreegirlies · 10/07/2023 21:11

My husbands just looked at them (he runs an estate agents and uses professional photographers) and, says he knows the agent as we’re not far from there. He says in his opinion they’re good but you need an elevated photograph with a drone to capture the size of the property and the gardens etc.
he says you do not need lifestyle photos. It’s just pretentious and unnecessary.

Therearetoomanyofus · 10/07/2023 21:12

@yipeeyiyay yes, all recessed electric blinds. Mainly because we couldn't agree on curtains!
