If you view a house but see a hot tub next door...

Are you going to think twice about a purchase. Row of town houses, close together, small gardens. Massive hot tub just the other side in neighbours garden, clearly in regular use. Would it make you think twice about noise.

OP posts:

Yep, I wouldn’t buy it.

ClaraThePigeon · 28/01/2023 16:37

I'd definitely avoid buying a home next to a neighbor with a hot tub.

Remona · 28/01/2023 16:38

Yes. It would completely put me off even if the house was perfect.

thistimelastweek · 28/01/2023 16:38

It would make me think twice

SwedishEdith · 28/01/2023 16:38

It would seriously put me off.

LadyWithLapdog · 28/01/2023 16:39

It would put me off if the space was cramped and the noise likely to carry.

LeapingCat · 28/01/2023 16:40

I’d maybe ask the sellers about it, but I wouldn’t let it put me off buying the house. IME people get them and use them for a bit, then get bored and stop. I don’t think it would be a long term issue.

Mosaic123 · 28/01/2023 16:40

In a small garden or close to the fence, yes it would put me off. If everything else was right I would probably still go ahead though.

pilates · 28/01/2023 16:41

Yes it would put me off. Experience of neighbours in previous house - cackling in the hot tub by my bedroom window, just awful 😞

TheYearOfSmallThings · 28/01/2023 16:41

It would definitely be off-putting.

FourTeaFallOut · 28/01/2023 16:41

I don't think it would put me off a good home but it might be the tipping point if I were choosing between two good homes.

ALeapOfFaith · 28/01/2023 16:41

Yep me too. I passed over a great house with a neighbour with a hot tub under a Hawaiian canopy and what looked like a garden bar.

The thought of having to listen to it throughout the summer was enough to put me off. Hot tubs are noisy!

handsoffate · 28/01/2023 16:41

It would influence my decision to buy, yes. Our neighbours have one but it’s well away from our boundary and they’re very considerate of noise, but you wouldn’t know that until it was too late with a new house move.

Smilesarecontagious · 28/01/2023 16:42

I wouldn't buy it based on that
Run run run far away
Used to live next door to that nothing worse constant buzzing noise from motor not to mention them being in it every day
Also they had rats living underneath it they nested there due to the heat underneath
When they went the rats went

Floralnomad · 28/01/2023 16:42

In a small garden I would definitely not buy it .

StarDolphins · 28/01/2023 16:42

I definitely wouldn’t buy it. Even if it was my dream house.

ClaraThePigeon · 28/01/2023 16:43

Also trampolines, basketball nets and garden bars are things that I'd avoid.

MsFannySqueers · 28/01/2023 16:45

It’s sad for the seller of the house. It’s not their fault that the hot tub is there, but it would be a definite no from me. Also gigantic trampolines, basketball hoops, football nets or outside bar/entertaining type areas in a neighbouring garden would put me off personally. There again I am probably just a miserable sod! Or perhaps I have just read too many MN horror stories!

MsFannySqueers · 28/01/2023 16:47

Ha ha cross posted with Clara!

Wtfhusband23 · 28/01/2023 16:49

Definitely wouldn't buy.

Greydog · 28/01/2023 16:50

Not a chance.

KangarooKenny · 28/01/2023 16:50

A hot tub and a trampoline would put me off.

Ilikewinter · 28/01/2023 16:51

Sorry OP, it would put me off too

IAmAlreadyRegrettingMyGreyColourScheme · 28/01/2023 16:52

Would 100% put me off

stripedsox · 28/01/2023 17:03

No way would I buy the property that had a hot tub in the next door garden. There is always the risk a neighbour might buy one at a later date, but def. not when one is installed.
What's your situation op, thinking of buying or are you selling ?
