If you view a house but see a hot tub next door...

Are you going to think twice about a purchase. Row of town houses, close together, small gardens. Massive hot tub just the other side in neighbours garden, clearly in regular use. Would it make you think twice about noise.

My neighbours put in a hot tub last year and the constant humming of the motor is really intrusive.
It would put me off buying a house with one next door.

Overthebow · 28/01/2023 17:07

It would put me off and I wouldn’t buy it. Who wants to live next to that?

GradNonFashinista · 28/01/2023 17:07

1000%. Could not pay me to move there. It’s my big fear that the neighbours would buy one.

DuesToTheDirt · 28/01/2023 17:07

A friend just told me she wants to move, and one reason is her neighbours' hot tub. She said even when they aren't using it she can hear it humming.

lljkk · 28/01/2023 17:10

It wouldn't bother me more than a trampolene next door... less, actually. My friend soon stopped using her hot tub, too expensive.

ZeldaWillTellYourFortune · 28/01/2023 17:10

Definitely would be a turnoff.

ShimmeringShirts · 28/01/2023 17:11

Given the kind of people that tend to buy and use hot tubs, yes I’d absolutely avoid it.

Yesthatismychildsigh · 28/01/2023 17:11

Yes, it definitely would put me off.

domesticslattern · 28/01/2023 17:15

I did not put an offer in on an otherwise lovely terraced house, because I could see that next door had built a ginormous outside bar with heaters, roof, seating etc.
A hot tub I think would be even worse- noise when they are in it, humming when they are not.

F4chrissakes · 28/01/2023 17:18

Can people afford to run hot tubs any more?
No hot tubs neighbouring us, thank goodness, but plenty of trampolines, I'd say half a dozen within earshot. Kids bounce about and shriek for about 10 minutes then bugger off back indoors. Hurrah for computer games or whatever the little sods are doing back indoors.

keri17 · 28/01/2023 17:19

Would put me right off totally

Mollyplop999 · 28/01/2023 17:19

Definitely! We had the misfortune of living next door to a family of 5 with a hot tub just the other side of the fence near the house. They used to "bath" their screaming kids in it. The noise and smell of chemicals was horrible. Then they'd go in it until about midnight, shouting at each other to be heard over the pump. It made our lives a misery, but they weren't nice people anyhow. Thankfully they moved. They offered the hot tub to the new neighbours but they declined.

ginghamstarfish · 28/01/2023 17:21

Yes, but then anywhere with neighbours carries the risk of having someone like that next door! YOu could move in next to the nicest people in the world, and a week later they could leave.

Arniesleftleg · 28/01/2023 17:26

I don't have one, have never really wanted one but I've known a fair few people that have had/have them and they couldn't be nicer people. Our neighbours have one, albeit an inflatable but they're really respectful.

Previous neighbours had a hot tub, and though the noise didn't bother me (I'm a bit deaf) my garden often stank of chlorine. I'm a keen gardener and wanted my garden to smell of roses, not chlorine.

MargaritaRita · 28/01/2023 17:30

Bad enough having excited high pitched constant kid noise in Summer, but they will grow up! However having adults playing in a sex pond aswell, that's a no from me!

SpentDandelion · 28/01/2023 17:33

No, hot tubs are fun for the people using them, not so much fun for the neighbours, mine bellow to one another as they can't hear each other over the noise of it. I would definitely avoid, they are listed high on the list of noise nuisance, not so bad if you have big gardens.

purpledalmation · 28/01/2023 17:34

we have one in our summerhouse and neighbours have one in their garden next to our fence. none of us are party people, and have no idea what stupidity makes you think people with hot tubs are noisy, dirty and inconsiderate neighbours. stop reading mumsnet where you hear of the odd crank.

purpledalmation · 28/01/2023 17:36

and neither of ours hum ffs

maddiemookins16mum · 28/01/2023 17:36

I wouldn’t. I’d also avoid one with a big feck off ugly motorhome on the drive or big motorbikes on the drive (bitter experience speaking here).

BamBamBilla · 28/01/2023 17:37

Not really. My current neighbours put in a hot tub after I moved in. I've only seen them use it twice. Probably too expensive to run.

UsingChangeofName · 28/01/2023 17:41

If would be a bit off putting, but it is only one factor.
If there were several other similar houses all at the same price that I had the luxury of selecting from, then I probably wouldn't choose it, but that doesn't tend to be the situation when you are looking to buy.
It wouldn't mean a firm no from me. I'd put everything else into the equations.

We are the same.

It's only ever the neighbours kids and my Dd who goes in it.

They just watch a movie in there as ours is in a summerhouse and we have a tv Out there also.

We are not loud or inconsiderate.

We are so lucky in our street. It's a bit rough and ready on occasion but we have no inconsiderate neighbours with noise or parking or whatever.

Who are all of these people with hot tubs having wild parties?

tangerinenightmare · 28/01/2023 17:43

I've heard my neighbours shagging in theirs, so it's a big no from me!
