Please help me name my house

So as a change from all the “help me name my baby” threads please can you help me name my house. Just buying my forever home which is perfect except for the name which is a random one word that means nothing to me. It is a detached double fronted symmetrical brick house like a dolls house It is not grand but I think it is definitely a house not a cottage. lots of trees but not one obvious one so I cant call it an Oak House or Beech House Names I have considered and discarded are Fox house, pheasant house (because we have both) orchard house (ditto). Brick house. I want something solid and classic but not pretentious. Any suggestions would be grateful received. . It does not have a number.

If the house is named rather than numbered I have the feeling there’s something official you have to do to change it -have you looked into that? I’d check that out before I had my heart set on a new name then discover you can”t actually change it

mrsbyers · 07/01/2023 14:57

i would just take the name sign down , do you have a number as well as the name ?

chocolateisavegetable · 07/01/2023 14:58

Use the name of the month you move in eg April House
Greenacres
Greenlea
Woodlands
Meadow View
The Haven
Dreamwood

We used to live at Suttons which I liked so I commend that to you

The OP says no house number (which is common in rural areas).

holierthanthou73 · 07/01/2023 15:02

I would do a little bit of digging into the history of the house for inspiration

xalo · 07/01/2023 15:02

Sunnyside
Treetops
Fairfield

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/01/2023 15:02

What's the what3words location? Could you make something from that?

Oher · 07/01/2023 15:06

Assuming you know the formal process to change the name with the post service…

Would your surname, or any family traditional middle name, work? Eg Asquew House, Joyce House? Kinda nice as the house name will probably outlive you. Or anything from the history of the location eg Well House, Hilltop House?

Or could you just pick a favourite plant and plant that in the front garden then use that in the name?

Grove House
Laburnum House
Foxglove House
The Foxden
Willow House
Rosemary House

It’s so hard without seeing the setting, as ideally you want something related to the area.

Just don’t call it Bag End or Shangri La there are so many local houses called those names.

TeaMeBasil · 07/01/2023 15:07

Shady Pines 😁

Velda · 07/01/2023 15:13

My ex’s parents lived in a house called Grey Glen View. From the upstairs windows you could see down into the glen which was frequently foggy and grey. I always thought it sounded posh. Perhaps similar based on what you can see from your house?

Gustavo1 · 07/01/2023 15:17

Button House 👻

maribou · 07/01/2023 15:25

Moonspinners

Happierwithouthim · 07/01/2023 15:33

I called my house the Irish word for courage, Misneach.
Some people use their surname backwards like Ronnoco house o'connor, or the place they originate from?
Or the townland house.

Yes, I was going to say do you have a view?
Or, do you have any places that have meaning to you that could band it after?
So long as they weren’t daft sounding!

custardbear · 07/01/2023 15:49

It would be good to see a picture of the house to get a feel
For what it and the surroundings look like.

CellophaneFlower · 07/01/2023 15:52

Does it have to be something 'house'?

Pheasant View? Obviously it's true and in keeping of the house plus it's a bit of a play on 'pleasant view' so sounds quite nice to me.

hadtoomuchsleep · 07/01/2023 16:01

The Cinnamons?

PlaitBilledDuckyPuss · 07/01/2023 16:07

Can you look at the history of the area for inspiration - old photos and the like. You could name your house after something that used to be where it stands - e.g. 'The Old Copse' or 'The Old Cowsheds'.

Muchtoomuchtodo · 07/01/2023 16:13

Are the any features of the house or surroundings that you could use? The Gables, Bay View House, Field View House etc

Will changing the name cause problems for deliveries or emergency services? I’d be concerned about that, especially as it’s not got a number too.

Peach2021 · 07/01/2023 16:19

Why not "The Doll House" if it looks like one?

Newhousename · 07/01/2023 16:22

Thankyou. I love the idea of finding a family name or the what three words. I will do my research. Please keep them coming. To answer someones e question there is no number. And I have checked with the council how to do it. As long as there is not another house nearby with the same name it’s quite straightforward. This is NOT my house but the same style shape to give an idea.

I found a really old map of my area and named house after a place on the map that doesn't exist anymore here. It's an old name and has a nice meaning.

WestBridgewater · 07/01/2023 16:36

I used to pass a lovely house daily called ‘The Laurels’
