OMAZE house

walkinthewoodstoday · 02/01/2023 20:42

So, I'm thinking of entering this competion. Clearly as much chance of winning as me getting an Olympic gold medal, but I keep reading that these 'amazing' houses have issues. Eg one has been massively flooded and another is so close to the cliff edge that it might be uninsurable and when it falls the owners will have a massive clear up bill. The current one is in Finsbury Park and I've even been sad enough to streetview it. Can't see any obvious issues, so why is it an OMAZE house? Please enlighten me!

@Petlover9 literally a front drive in the first photo 😂

Yes I saw that from the photo and property details. I had not seen it when I posted and not many houses in that area have parking, they have used the front garden by the looks of it. Thanks for correcting me.

Flapjackquack · 04/01/2023 12:32

@McDonaldsMcChanel - where do we sign up to direct Omaze winners videos? 😂

@AnnieSnap I have actually stopped wearing Daisy perfume simply because of that advert it drives me that mad

I’ve always said that advert would put women off, not encourage us to buy it!

Do they live in it? Or did they sell?

Based on what you have said, we are all better trying for the Euromillions, there is no tax to pay on any winnings.

BucketofTeaMassiveCake · 04/01/2023 12:39

All these things are turning us into a nation of gamblers - who let's face it, have a cat in hell's chance of winning 'the big one'.

I actually viewed this house in July 2022 when The Modern House were trying to flog it. I think it was on for 3.1/3.2.

It's beautiful. The decor and finish is superb - the husband is in the building trade, the wife works in fashion (Birkins shoved into shelves in the master bedroom's wall in wardrobe).

We did the research - it's the most expensive house in the area...by a country mile. It faces on to a little green with cricket in the summer. They'd try to sell it before with no luck. The story was they wanted to sell so they could build a place in Ibiza. It was a bugger getting a viewing - they were so weird with times. If you worked a normal corporate job, you just couldn't see it.

We didn't put an offer in because a) too much money b) never buy the priciest house in the area. We wouldn't have made money on it over time and c) take away their decor and furnishings, and it ain't that great.

Structurally it was solid and unique. Ultimately, just over priced and maybe they were greedy or delusional or spent too much on it to drop the price. The place does have permission for a basement excavation

You can tell he’s a builder rather than an architect or interior designer hence the poorly thought out design and very cheap looking kitchen.

I still want to win though 😂 - I would just sell it asap.

I lay awake until 4am last night considering all possible scenarios, should I win this house. What would be the best way to manage that in-room bath, would I use the garden room as my office or would I set up a yoga studio in there? What would be the quickest route to work? I even got quite anxious about where my dad would stay when he came to visit 😆

In my defence I'm not 100% well and think I might have been feverish...

larkstar · 04/01/2023 16:08

How many more threads do we need on this? Why don't posters search and check if this hasn't been talked to death already?

Oh bore off, it’s not one thread per topic. You don’t have to join in.

I’d moved in in my head into the Fulham and Wimbledon houses but sadly it was not to be…

Why don't posters ignore threads on topics that don't interest them?

I haven't seen the other threads and I'm quite enjoying this one. Is that OK with you?

I’m going to win the Lake District House. I’ll let you all know when I do lol

I’m ever so sorry, on this occasion I will be winning the house 😜.

walkinthewoodstoday · 04/01/2023 19:07

@larkstar sorry- I didn't see any other threads and this was started as to be specifically about the current London house.

I wouldn't worry about it, no one is forced to read the thread, or enter the raffle, it would have been more polite to just scroll on by and not comment. I for one am enjyoing this, and when no spend January is over I will be buying my tickets. Its well worth a tenner to bring some hope into my dull and boring existance! I've already established there is an Aldi in walking distance of my new London pad and somewhere to walk the dog. 😂

FearEtc · 04/01/2023 19:37

Look at that layout. Impractical for a family and will be a nightmare to heat!

clodaghrogers · 04/01/2023 20:27

I'm tempted to chuck a tenner in to the draw for this one. The location is perfect for the gigs we go to and I have often said we should relocate back to London for retirement. The block paving on the front is awful and I wonder if the dropped kerb is legit. The house next door had planning permission refused for a dropped kerb as it is againt Islington policy. [No, I'm not obsessing about this house at all!]
I would also need to get windows repainted to white as the charcoal looks out of place.
I'm sure psycologists would have a field day analysing why we have visualised scenarios of having moved in and rearranged the furniture!

ShyMaryEllen · 04/01/2023 20:48

Omaze does give winners the option of opting out of having their details made public. It isn't given as an option when entering, but winners can tell Omaze in writing that they don't want publicity.

Is this definitely true? I need to know for the purposes of fantasising about when I win the Lake District one tomorrow. I'd rather not have to worry about people rooting about looking for personal details - it will spoil the dream.

I have looked at the T&Cs, but all I can find is something about taking part in reasonable publicity. I thought I might just scowl a lot and moan about the colour of the furniture, in the hope that they wouldn't use my miserable face to promote their cause. I'd happily write them some enthusiastic copy under the name of Sue Denim though.

Edinburghmusing · 04/01/2023 21:13

I’ve been practicing my graceful winning smile

I had a quick search and the last one I can see was in Septmeber, surley 1 every 3 months isn't excessive for something people seem to like speaking about?

larkstar · 05/01/2023 09:17

@JauntyJinty I'm not certain but I complained several months ago about the promotion of the competition by posters using the name in the title as there were 3 active threads at one time - I can only suggest that they were removed. Also the search facility really doesn't work that well - one of my posts didn't even show up however hard I tried to use the site search to find it.

If the search function doesn’t work too well then I am not sure what you scolded the OP for not using it!

I am not sure this thread is a promotion of it though, a few of us have been quite critical of it.

So because there was an issue with Omaze promoting several months ago you think no one should speak about it at all on here now?

Also you can't simultaneously complain about people not using the search and complain that the search doesn’t work!

Rule 13: Omaze reserves the right to publish or make available information that indicates that a valid award took place for each of the Prize Draws – for example, the surname and country and county of residence of the Winner. Affected Winners have the right to object to all or part of this information being published or made available – in such event they should inform Omaze in writing. In such circumstances, entrants acknowledge that Omaze must nevertheless still provide the information and winning entry to the ASA or equivalent regulator on request.

Omaze will also require that winners participate in any reasonable publicity required by Omaze.

Flapjackquack · 05/01/2023 13:57

Does that not contradict each other? You can opt out to your details being made public but we will also require you to participate in publicity?
