I am always by people who ask for huge amounts of money but can't be bothered to tidy up. Or cover a hole in the ceiling.

Well, they’re paying for the location and structure of the house, it’s clear it would need total refurbishment. Who last lived there, Marie Antoinette?!

Unicorn717 · 14/12/2022 12:51

Ew at the state of it. And ew at the price.

Thefriendlyone · 14/12/2022 12:53

That’s wat under priced due to condition, that house would be worth closer to 2 million when refurbed.

LemonSwan · 14/12/2022 12:53

It’s a probate house obviously. Very sad 😢

manateeandcake · 14/12/2022 12:57

They will not get anything close to that in the current market.

FGSWhatNow · 14/12/2022 12:57

It's "exquisite family accommodation" according to the estate agent Hmm

Very odd - parts of it look (on the surface) lovely, but other rooms have been left to go to rack and ruin. The collapsed celings? The leaves blowing across the bedroom floor...? Obvious damp patches...?

Escapefromcolditz · 14/12/2022 13:03

I’m always up for a laugh at the hideous decor thread but this one just makes me feel sad. This is the visual equivalent of Hemingway’s 6 word story.

Musthavebeenbadinapastlife · 14/12/2022 13:09

What a horrible thread.

Older people end up living in all sorts of conditions due to their health, mobility, lack of family help or lack of cash. Horrible to judge.

Ponypitter · 14/12/2022 13:10

I live near there and this is a bargain. Needs a ton of work but could be really lovely. As pp said you pay for location and sq ft.

purplerainlondon · 14/12/2022 13:12

They're aiming to sell it to someone who wants to complete a house refurb.
It will need electrics, damp proofing, new roof etc. The whole will be the least of their worries. Lol

LosingTheWill2022 · 14/12/2022 13:15

It's so clearly a probate house or being sold for care home fees, I cant understand why would you make comments like they " can't be bothered to tidy up"

As for the house it looks like it was and could be again an absolutely fantastic house

Probably an older person who couldn't take care of the house ?

HaveYouSeenNancy · 14/12/2022 13:17

Someone loved that house once, it looks like it was beautiful a few decades ago. The old shoes in front of the fire in photo 3 made me inexplicably sad, along with the dusty (long since used) suitcase.

Scarecrowrowboat · 14/12/2022 13:18

That seems a good price for area and condition. As others have said most likely probate. It needs a lot of work and I don't think tidying would have made much visual difference.

Cassillero · 14/12/2022 13:20

I think it's beautiful. I genuinely do. My ex husband would have loved that as a project. You can really see the potential.

Felt the same looking at it. Someone put so much love into it and it seems really sad that they became unable to take care of it.

Sadly I think you're right. I get the sense that it was a happy home though, and someone had clearly spent a lot of time and effort on the decor at some point.

Mamette · 14/12/2022 13:23

This is clearly the home of an elderly person and they were mostly living in one room.

Standards of decor are so different than they would have been within some people’s lifetimes. Plus very often people don’t have the money for home maintenance as they get older.

Don’t worry though, the person who lived there is highly unlikely to see a penny of the 1.45m.

smooththecat · 14/12/2022 13:24

It’s amazing and a great project for someone. Not surprised at price given area and size.

Preseli · 14/12/2022 13:30

Looks like it was a lovely house once

and considering this one sold in July for 2.13mil in the next street over it seems like a bargain as I doubt you would have to put an extra 600k into modernising....

greenhousegal · 14/12/2022 13:31

I'd love it if I had the money to do it up. But on street parking and no rear/side access would be a downside. Not unusual I know but not for me.

Petronus · 14/12/2022 13:35

Its giving me Miss Haversham vibes. I think it was probably beautifully decorated once and hopefully someone will make it beautiful again. The prices in London always terrify me, but that’s London.

HelpMeCope85 · 14/12/2022 13:37

Once a beautiful and loved home. Who knows how many laughs and good times were had there. Not fair to mock. Amazing value for the area and Sq footage. It’ll be totally gutted and refurbed so what’s there doesn’t really matter in anymore.

Needsomethingtoread · 14/12/2022 13:39

I think it’s a beautiful house that has got too much for its owner. I think it would make a wonderful family home and I really hope the period features are kept.

People automatically assume it’s going to be a nightmare buying something like this but it’s not really. You just tackle the big jobs first and get around to the other stuff later.

We bought a repo 10 years ago and are still patching up things that have been done wrong over the years but as long as you don’t want show home within a few months then it’s grand.

Mindymomo · 14/12/2022 13:42

I think it’s got real character, would love to see more photos. Although it’s possibly a probate sale or selling due to owner having to go into a care home, whoever is dealing with the sale will have to clear it, I would like to think if that was my house, my personal belongings be removed before putting the house on the market.
