I am always by people who ask for huge amounts of money but can't be bothered to tidy up. Or cover a hole in the ceiling.

OP posts:
BernadetteRostankowskiWolowitz · 14/12/2022 19:10

I found this property on the Rightmove Android app and wanted you to see it: www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/128829962

This is the same location, 5bed multiple floors, and has been refurbished. Still not selling after a price drop to 1.8m

Why take on a massive project that'll cost 100-150k to put right when a done one isn't selling for much more?

Tuichi · 14/12/2022 19:15

No idea about the price, but it’s a lovely house and I too find the pictures sad more than anything else. Obviously much loved, but looking after all of it has got too much. Hope it gets new owners that care about it as much as it clearly has been.

The problem is that hasn't been refurbished but is priced as if it is. you would IMO need to spend almost as much on that one as you would on the first one

How can that possibly need anywhere near as much spending on it as the original?

It wouldn't but it certainly wouldn't need 300000 less spending on it. If you look at it it has cheap bathrooms and kitchen and everything else is basic i.e painted floorboards etc. It certainly isn't a 'nothing to do' property

Wheredoallthepensgo · 14/12/2022 19:48

What a mean and nasty post. Yes let's all mock the poor person (likely elderly or even deceased) who hasn't been able to keep up their home. Xmas Hmm

Imagine if the family of this person sees this post and see you wanting everyone to make fun of them "not tidying up". How cruel, especially if they have recently passed.

This is why I hate the mean spirited "point and laugh at Rightmove" posts. This was obviously someone's much loved home, but you're too busy gleefully pointing out how messy it is to engage your brain and think about why it's being sold.

I don't think anyone is pointing and laughing at this house. We can all see it is a much loved home that has fallen into disrepair and of course that is sad. The comments on the thread are purely about price and what the very basic fabric of a modest MID terrace 3.5 bedroom property and the land it sits on is supposedly worth. Even in London. Even in a "desirable" area.

Clymene · 14/12/2022 20:59

That is exactly what this thread is @LindorDoubleChoc. The opening post is literally asking how the hell could anyone charge so much for such a shithole.

Exhausteddog · 14/12/2022 21:06

Why would you tidy or cover the hole in the ceiling, it would be like putting a plaster over an open wound.

It's clear this would only be of interest to someone who wanted a project and was expecting a major programme of refurbishment , the hole in the ceiling won't be a deal breaker

Fizbosshoes · 14/12/2022 21:11

Earlier this year a relative died. They were elderly and I suspect ND. Their house is currently being cleared, it seems quite bewildering how they lived with it in its state of disrepair. However, it was too overwhelming for them to get things fixed or updated, and as far as they were concerned it was quite functional. They were very reluctant to accept help from others. I dread it appearing on a thread like this when it's put on the market.

Did you even read the OP? And the first couple of posts?

"Ew"
"Who lived here, Marie Antoinette?"

Lemonlady22 · 15/12/2022 21:07

I think it’s beautiful, obviously the much loved home of an elderly person who is maybe now in a nursing home or has died. How sad 😞

Spliffle · 15/12/2022 21:50

I think it's a fab home.

Thinkwicebeforeyouleavemylife · 15/12/2022 22:00

There was a thread like this just the other day. Clearly someone's just died! Save your rudeness have some bl**dy decorum.

maryofthevirginkind · 15/12/2022 22:15

@escapingthecity my mum and her cousin were left the estate of another cousin and they had professionals in to clear the house for sale as it was in such a poor state. It's possible the executors of this property don't want to bother with that.

AssumingDirectControl · 15/12/2022 23:02

SD25 · 14/12/2022 18:55

That would literally have been 100k twenty years ago.

Don’t be daft. I sold a small two bedroom cottage in one of the cheaper south coast locations for £117k twenty years ago. It’d be worth about £240k now.

WhatCanWeDoNext · 15/12/2022 23:16

Escapefromcolditz · 14/12/2022 13:03

I’m always up for a laugh at the hideous decor thread but this one just makes me feel sad. This is the visual equivalent of Hemingway’s 6 word story.

@Escapefromcolditz sums up perfectly what I wanted to say - that gut punch of sadness when you think of the story behind it.

Geppili · 15/12/2022 23:20

Probate sale

jtaeapa · 15/12/2022 23:28

I'd agree it's a probate sale. The executors might live miles away and it needs a lot more than a tidy up. They might have been advised to sell it as is - what difference would a tidy up really make? It needs actual work - which is difficult to organise, particularly from a distance when you have your own life/kids to deal with.

She’s not far off. Have a look at sold prices. The fact yours has only doubled in 20years is more of an outlier

That’s quite normal in our entire area, which is one of the cheaper and more deprived southern towns. Even when I sold it for 117k that was considered an average price. Properties in this area sell for nothing like the London market - my current three bed Victorian house cost me 220k five years ago.

maybe London has shot up completely disproportionately to other areas of the country but that’s not what I recall.

Scottishgirl85 · 16/12/2022 08:46

That is a bargain! And a beautiful home. I can easily see past the sad state it's in. There is no need to put in effort for photos for that kind of house. It's a clear renovation job and will sell easily.

mintdaisy · 16/12/2022 08:50

Oh wow that's a stunning, large house in an amazing location. It will look wonderful when someone modernises it. Ours looked in a similar condition when we bought it a few year ago.

WorkHardPlayHard1 · 16/12/2022 08:56

I would love to buy it! 💘

East London is far cooler than Putney these days amongst the youngsters!

Might be cooler, but you're more likely to get robbed in East London. I think that I'll stick to the South West.
