Social Housing Ranking confusing

Livinglife86 · 03/09/2022 22:15

Thank you for reading my post. Please could anyone explain what the council ranking numbers mean?

Example: 1-5, 6-10 & 11-20

I called the council and enquired however the operator said she didn't understand the ranking system either ☹️

I am currently in Band B the property I bid upon placed me at 11-20. I asked my Dad what this meant and was told "I don't have hope in hell..." however he admitted he had no idea how the ranking system worked.

Do I just wait for the bid to end then enquire again? I won't deny I feel a little dismayed as it was a lovely property and a new build in one of the nicest areas so it proved very popular very quickly 😣

I’m not fussed as I’m desperate now and I’ve even gone wider out as my partner has a connection for work near Winslow I drive so I am bidding a lot I’m just not hopeful that I will get anywhere by 2 months , when I went into the council they told me to not leave until my landlord goes to court but I’m afraid I’m not that type of person and I understand they want to sell, but got told it If i leave on the date of the section 21 I am then making myself homeless on purpose

This seems so unfair to me how you’re expected to live like that and just wait. I would feel so uncomfortable having to do that. I really feel for you! I never saw many properties come up in the area I needed I had to move half hour away. It’s ok because I do drive but I never could’ve moved this way if not. Hope you get somewhere soon it’s so tough waiting for the help you need.

@SummerSu23 thank you does a nomination mean an offer or is that up to the housing association?
They did say I’m only one to be nominated and I can’t bid at the moment

Pretty much. I was told they let a 3 people see the place then you only get it if someone above you says no unless you’re first of that 3. I don’t think anyone would’ve turned down my flat as it’s new. I was only in band C and got mine I think a nomination means you have it 🤞🏼 I couldn’t bid either as it said “offered to you” Wishing you lots of luck.

If I bid in my area I’m always over 20 if I bid further away I get into 6-10 it’s a tough one as I have a baby aswell and been told hopefully I just get lucky and get somewhere but I dout that, my landlords have been nothing but amazing to me and I just feel awful staying there when they want to sell, my family don’t have room for me so they said about also going to a lodge which I wouldn’t mind but again I could be there for ages, guess I’ll just have to see how it goes but Thankyou

Karly39 · 04/05/2024 22:00

@SummerSu23 thank you I hope I do this is a direct offer so I didn’t get it through bidding and I’m the only one nominated I won’t be saying no 🙏

urbanbuddha · 05/05/2024 06:02

@Aprilmay1996

Contact your local councillor and see if they can help.

rebecca24y · 06/05/2024 10:55

back on the list and currently ranking at 79😩 I’m 28 weeks pregnant next week and was told to contact again when I turn 28 weeks so I’m not sure if that will help our ranking? Currently in a 3rd floor flat struggling with stairs and an autistic toddler who hates stairs😂 all fun and games

Karly39 · 06/05/2024 14:26

@rebecca24y hopefully won’t be too long for you, are you in temp? I called mine weekly with issues. I found by me saying I would accept any area it helped I needed a fresh start.

No we’ve been in our flat for nearly 2 years through housing association! If it was ground floor we wouldn’t have an issue it’s just the stairs are a nightmare and I have to carry my daughter up and down them. Should be interesting when baby comes😂 we’ve been put on band 2 but it’s not looking very good at the moment!

Have you got a medical report/note you can give to the housing to get higher priority on medical grounds with your little ones autism?

rebecca24y · 06/05/2024 20:02

@Gloriam were currently getting her diagnosed at the moment which has taken months of fighting, so hopefully soon we’ll be able to send over the proof they need! Not sure if that will help so will just have to see

It means your 26 in the que so there are 25 people in front of you

Butterfly2025 · 15/05/2024 18:49

That's what confuses me. Why do they " sort the bids by order of priority" if you can already see that when you login. I'm probably overthinking it

Butterfly2025 · 20/05/2024 15:03

So this week im No: 5 for a new build. But there are three properties. Good chance of getting one? I do hope so.

Livinglife86 · 20/05/2024 15:06

@Butterfly2025 I hope you get it! You have an excellent chance!

That seems promising especially if there are other properties other than the new builds so the few in front of you might of bidded on the other properties and if offered to them you will be in with a really good chance of one of them. My neighbour ranked number 4 and won on a new build.

Butterfly2025 · 20/05/2024 22:33

There is just one listing for the new build properties. But at the top it says "3 properties available" So im currently number 5. I'm really hoping a couple of people don't like it when they view. But something tells me that is very unlikely, because they are in a really nice area, and it would be a dream come true for anyone surely. I know I'd be so, so grateful if I was offered it, I'd probably cry!

Gloriam · 21/05/2024 06:53

I hope you do get one but look at it this way if you don't get one I'm sure something else will come up soon you will be able to call home. Definitely keep us posted with how it goes. I'm not sure how it works with your bidding system but with mines if it Said I was ranking number 6 when the bidding closed because the people in front of me would of bidded on other properties and would of won so I would mover higher up the list during the shortlisting so whenever the bidding closed during the shortlisting I would always move up 1 or 2 places.

Butterfly2025 · 12/06/2024 19:25

Just keeping you updated

So I didn't get that new build. But maybe it was meant to be as a brand new set of new build properties came up that is close to where I live now (the other one was 90 mins away) There are four properties available, and last night when bids closed I was number 2. I'm trying not to get my hopes up about what this means. Also, more properties will be listed tonight (midnight). How does this work because I haven't been contacted yet about the new build as bids only closed last night. Does this mean I can still bid on others until I hear from them?

Just found this thread, ooh did you get that property?

Livinglife86 · 20/07/2024 12:38

I am so sorry I just saw the post, I really hope you got it! And what amazing luck to find one so much closer to where you are!

Butterfly2025 · 02/08/2024 12:15

So I didn't get that property. Apparently there was a local lettings policy, and I had to be living specifically in that area. It did not make any sense to me, as my post code was the same. But anyway, I was absolutely distraught I couldn't even bring myself to come on here and update you all.

But last week another property came up, which is an hour away. It's a new build.. and there are 4. I was number 3. So fingers crossed that this is it. The abuse in my home has been unbearable and I'm praying that this is my time now. I'll let you know what the outcome is as soon as I find out (good or bad). 🙏🏽

Livinglife86 · 02/08/2024 16:20

@Butterfly2025 that's okay sometimes it happens the councils can be very odd with the decisions they make and reasons they never seem to be practical or make sense. However the right house will come up for you and it will be perfect x

I'm waiting to hear back and I'm starting to drive myself crazy...

One listing, 4 new build properties available. When I've logged in, that one listing has now turned into 4.

I came in at number 3 during bidding so technically I should have 1?

It now says:
property 1 (unsuccessful)
Property 2 (unsuccessful)
Property 3 (see pic)
Property 4 (see pic)

Do I have it? I'm stressing myself out that I haven't heard. Even got my friend to email just in case my email was glitching.

I'm so sorry I'm not sure I haven't like this before. Maybe you should give them a call and ask I hope you get it x
