Social Housing Ranking confusing

Thank you for reading my post. Please could anyone explain what the council ranking numbers mean?

Example: 1-5, 6-10 & 11-20

I called the council and enquired however the operator said she didn't understand the ranking system either ☹️

I am currently in Band B the property I bid upon placed me at 11-20. I asked my Dad what this meant and was told "I don't have hope in hell..." however he admitted he had no idea how the ranking system worked.

Do I just wait for the bid to end then enquire again? I won't deny I feel a little dismayed as it was a lovely property and a new build in one of the nicest areas so it proved very popular very quickly 😣

@Thisismyusername1 congratulations on your property 😊 @Over20 username1 is right an FOI might be the best way forward. What band are you in if you don't mind me asking?

Thank you, we didn't get the one I posted about but the one we gave I

Thisismyusername1 · 28/04/2023 20:19

Sorry little one pushed button! We didn't get the one I posted about but actually this one is better as it's a three bed so means both kids can have their own rooms.

Livinglife86 · 28/04/2023 20:23

@Thisismyusername1 that is so amazing 🤩 what a blessing xx

Thank you everyone I am Band B.

Over20 · 14/05/2023 14:44

Can I ask how long you where on the list untill you all started getting offers?

Livinglife86 · 14/05/2023 14:49

@Over20 I started getting offers in the first month or so. However it depends on what your looking for. How long have you been on the list.

Stomacharmeleon · 14/05/2023 15:01

@Livinglife86 how many 'refusals' do you get before they stop offering?
I was band B recently and was rehoused fairly quickly due to downsizing.

Livinglife86 · 14/05/2023 15:48

It depends some councils offer one others offer up to 3

I have been on there since 30th march so not that long but my ranking is still showing as over 20 at the moment, I am bidding on 3 a week aswell. It's all very confusing there isn't much information on the ranking side to it and how long until you start going down on the ranking list

Livinglife86 · 14/05/2023 19:39

It may take roughly a year or more for you to start ranking in the top 20 or the top 10.

However, please don't let that dishearten you as there was another member in the forum a few weeks back that mentioned they had received their home and they were ranking over 20. I found it both positive and inspirational.

You never know just make sure you keep bidding on the properties that you like, and eventually the perfect one for you will come up. Xx

I’m on band A homelink. How long does it take?

im 3 months in now. The rank changes from 1-5 to 6-10 each day some days up, some days down.

I never managed to finish 1-5

so never actually get shortlisted.

anyone know if there is an average waiting time. And if their rank goes up and down randomly.

Livinglife86 · 17/05/2023 20:37

@Farmerboi26 keep bidding you will be housed very quickly in Band A.

Thank you. Yes I've been very fortunate. I was on the bidding list for around a year and was over 20 when I was offered this property. However, it did have a wet room which was needed for one of us so I think that was probably why.

Farmerboi26 · 17/05/2023 20:59

Thank you, I really hope so but there is over 200 bids on each property I’m bidding on.

Stomacharmeleon · 18/05/2023 17:00

When I was band A I was offered a property within six weeks. Remember though In Thai climate more band A's will come in. It will depend on your need. Eg disability, immediate eviction etc

Stomacharmeleon · 18/05/2023 17:01

'This' climate.

Farmerboi26 · 18/05/2023 17:57

@Stomacharmeleon

i bidded on 3 this week, but 6 property’s in the same block has come up shortlisting.

I went to 6-10 right before the bidding closed. So maybe they will offer to top 6 people a property each. (I’m hoping)

has that ever happen to you where more property’s have shortlisted than you actually bid on. 3 is the max I can bid.

I'm so confused 😕 has how I'm ranking so high when I was ranking low before. I've been on locata for more than a year now I'm band A management transfer. But haven't got a idea how this works. I seem to be going future up in the list . I've gone from 6 to 10 to 11 to 20 and now 20 or more. Cam somebody explain to me why this may be.

@2023girlconfused1 I would imagine that either other people have been added to the list that rank higher than you, or they have specific reasons for needing a flat, etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about the ranking, tbh. We finished 3rd for this house and we were offered it that day.

Hi, I’m in a bit of a panic. I have recently split from my partner and have been put onto home link. I have a a nearly 3 year old and soon to be 20 weeks pregnant. I’m on band B. And the closet Ranking I have got is 11-20. I’m just so stressed. I am wanting to settle my 3 year old into nursery before number 2 comes so that there are not too many life changes in one go with nursery, new house and baby coming. But feel like this isn’t going to be possible in the time frame. I don’t know what to do, and the worry is stressing me out so much. Has anyone been in a similar position? I am also currently staying at a friends and this is adding to stress as they haven’t got young children, so my head is just all over the place at the moment.

Farmerboi26 · 30/11/2023 10:21

@Hello638105

Hello846268 · 30/11/2023 10:28

How do I do this? I have a council worker and spoke to her today. Saying is there anything more I can do. And that I’m stressing about this. She said there isn’t anything else to do but wait, and my banding will not be looked at again until the relief duty is over and done with, which will be January. And only then will they look into moving my band. But she said I'm better off looking for a private rental and getting benefits to pay for it. Thank you so much for helping
