Social Housing Ranking confusing

Livinglife86 · 03/09/2022 22:15

Thank you for reading my post. Please could anyone explain what the council ranking numbers mean?

Example: 1-5, 6-10 & 11-20

I called the council and enquired however the operator said she didn't understand the ranking system either ☹️

I am currently in Band B the property I bid upon placed me at 11-20. I asked my Dad what this meant and was told "I don't have hope in hell..." however he admitted he had no idea how the ranking system worked.

Do I just wait for the bid to end then enquire again? I won't deny I feel a little dismayed as it was a lovely property and a new build in one of the nicest areas so it proved very popular very quickly 😣

So just to update you all. I have someone from the housing association coming to visit me next week Friday. And then after that I visit the house the following week. They said they do home visits first to get to know me, and check ID. Fingers crossed I get this house, as this would honestly change my life.

urbanbuddha · 18/08/2024 17:56

That’s great news!

Livinglife86 · 18/08/2024 20:34

@Butterfly2025 this is fantastic news! Exciting times ahead now 🍾🍷🏠

That's great news. Is this the one that's 1hr away? @Butterfly2025

Butterfly2025 · 19/08/2024 08:53

Yes it is. It's a new build, that comes with an en-suite and office space too. I told the woman I'd feel so grateful to have this. Like honestly, I'd feel like I've hit the jackpot. Do you all think this means I will definitely get it? I feel like I don't want to get my hopes up as i was so distraught when I didn't get the last one. Thanks for all the support, it means a lot because my home situation is unbearable.

Livinglife86 · 19/08/2024 11:16

@Butterfly2025 I hope you get it! OMG it's not even my house and I feel like I have hit the jackpot! 😝🤪🤣

I'll be praying for you all the way! I love getting updates like this it keeps me inspired! #thankyou #inspired #thisgirlcan

Wow that sounds really nice and fancy. There's nothing better than a new build that you know no one else has lived in etc and you don't have to do much to it though saying that any property is good its what you make it. It sounds very promising if they are coming to do a home visit. I think you have more or less got the property and they are just doing pre tenancy checks before they officially get you to sign the tenancy. I never had anyone come to visit my home but after the bidding had closed I didn't hear anything for a few weeks and when I did they didn't tell me that I had the house until the day before i signed the tenancy. Like you I didn't want to get my hopes up and was super anxious for weeks waiting to hear something back. I've got a good feeling that you will get it.

Hi

I've been ranked 0 out of 247 in Lewisham, currently going through short listing, what does this mean?

Hi, I am the same when I looked what does this mean?

Butterfly2025 · 28/08/2024 16:06

So they called today and I was given a........

VERBAL OFFER ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Omg, I cried on the phone with the housing offer. I can't believe it. I feel like I've won the lottery 🎉

I would have been grateful for anything, but to think I've got a new build with en-suite and office I almost feel like I'm dreaming, and someone is going to wake me up and tell me it isn't real.

She said she is going to call me in a week or two, to organise viewing the house (I haven't even seen it but yes yes I want it), and getting the keys etc as she needs to get the rent finalised. But she will send out the official offer letter in the post the day she calls too.

I've had such a shitty time, as I'm sure we all have on this thread. The man I live with is just beyond cruel, and this feels like someone has been watching over me. I'm so so so grateful I can't even breathe right now.

She said "as long as it's happy tears" I said "you have changed my life you have no idea"

Thank you. The housing officer did the home visit last week Friday (I just realised I didn't update you all) he looked all around my house too. At first I thought, hang on are they moving in or am I moving out? Lol. I guess that is just to verify what you put on the application. He then said "if you are successful....but I'm not worried." I have been anxious all weekend and this week waiting to hear. And then today she called to say "we would like to give you a verbal offer" I felt a huge sense of relief and excitement. I wish I could bottle up this feeling. I feel so so much gratitude. And how lucky are we that the UK offer social housing, I'll never take it for granted ever. I cried on the phone, and she seemed a little surprised. I would have thought they get people crying with joy every week, but then again I have always been a very grateful sort of person and never feel entitled to anything. I'll update again once I have received the written offer, and again when I've got the keys.

Is anyone else still waiting?

I know exactly how your feeling. I went through a very similar situation to you and the same feelings. You will be so happy in your new home.

Butterfly2025 · 04/09/2024 17:25

The official offer letter has been sent out to me
apparently. And next week Thursday, I do the house visit and sign up there and then. Will update you when I get my keys next week Thursday. Can't even believe I'm saying that. It all feels surreal. But I will never take this home for granted ever. Thanks again for all of the wonderful support.

Butterfly2025 · 04/09/2024 17:26

@Gloriam it's been such a difficult journey. But I feel like I'm at the finishing line now.

Offer letter received. Countdown to next Thursday now 🏡

Today's the big day! Busy busy busy from here on out.

Butterfly2025 · 12/09/2024 21:38

I got the keys 🔑 🏡

It's beautiful! Gosh, what a time to be alive. To think I could have something like this. It's unreal, it really is.

One very small downside. No en-suite. They made an error, they thought this one had it. But it turns out they decided to make the main bedroom bigger instead. And despite me feeling a brief pang of disappointment, I'm really glad they decided not to have the en-suite because the main bedroom is huge! Lots of space. And I still have an office too. So I am really grateful. And it's only me and my daughter. So I don't need it. There is also a downstairs toilet too.

I get a free fridge, oven and shed. And everything smells fresh and brand new. I'll be honest, I was a bit overwhelmed at first. And I wasn't really expecting to feel this way. I was given a quick show around. And there was a few maintenance men there fiddling with the boiler, and plumbing, then the housing officer was going over the tenancy, page by page, and then I paid rent over the phone, and it all just felt....like a LOT. So when they finally left, I went into the main bedroom, and just sat on the floor and....cried. Although, I'm due on too. Ha! But, have you ever felt grateful, but realise you have had a really tough old time of it? Conflicting emotions. That was me today.

Anyway, I bought Prosecco on the way back. And I'm about to have a glass now to celebrate. Daughter's school application is in. And now I have packing to do. Carpet fitters are coming on Monday to measure up. So I'll be going back and forth from the current house to the new one until I've got everything sorted. I'm very lucky and I'll never ever take this house for granted. Thank you for all the words of support. ❤️❤️❤️

urbanbuddha · 13/09/2024 00:51

I'm happy for you! I know the feeling you had and being that time of the month doesn't help😭. It's an emotional journey but at least now you can be settled and can make a fresh new start. I always see moving homes as a new chapter in my life.
