Social Housing Ranking confusing

Thank you for reading my post. Please could anyone explain what the council ranking numbers mean?

Example: 1-5, 6-10 & 11-20

I called the council and enquired however the operator said she didn't understand the ranking system either ☹️

I am currently in Band B the property I bid upon placed me at 11-20. I asked my Dad what this meant and was told "I don't have hope in hell..." however he admitted he had no idea how the ranking system worked.

Do I just wait for the bid to end then enquire again? I won't deny I feel a little dismayed as it was a lovely property and a new build in one of the nicest areas so it proved very popular very quickly 😣

Thank you everyone 🔑🏠💖 I got my keys last week had all my carpet laid the weekend. I’m still working on oven and white goods though. Slowly coming together I’ve moved lots in but not living there just yet 🤞🏼.

@Tamimun My postcode doesn’t come up on anything but Royal Mail. I can’t get anything delivered or sort any of my bills out 😂 as much as I’m grateful this new build wasn’t ready for us to move in yet.

Congratulations mama!! I'm sooooooo happy for you and little one 🤗. Wow! Did you end up getting help from the council with the carpet? How much did it cost all together?

SummerSu23 · 21/02/2024 19:49

@Tamimun 🥰 I’m so happy to have a little safe place for me & my girl. No I tried to get a decorating grant but they don’t really exist now I got a UC grant but only would give me £300 which I have to pay back. It cost £1,300 for the whole flat. I’m trying to get some help from “helping hands” but apparently they go through all your finances/debts and it’s quite intrusive.

Damn! I've been applying around to a few charities but haven't gotten any word back🤞🏿
£1300 sounds like a lot but not too mad still x
You only did the bedrooms and living area right? It's a shame the council doesn't offer any sort of help with these things. You'd get everything you need hun x
I got accepted for a new build but it's all the way in MK. I've been calculating all the money thatI'll have to spend that my head is spinning 😂, God help us all lol x

Congratulations to all those housed. I am on the register myself and have been ranking anywhere between 5-10 and sometimes higher. I have bidded on 39 properties in total over 6 months but have been on the register for 2 years but I still keep ranking anywhere between 6-10 all the time. Given my rank and the fact that 39 properties have been and gone I would of thought I would of gotten one by now given my ranking. I'm guessing more people are added on each day but my position never seems to get any closer to the front. I am ranking number 3 for 2 properties at the moment so i pray i get an offer. Im currently living in temporary accommodation because of domestic violence. I was wondering if anyone has been in a similar situation or how know how the bidding and ranking works?

AnneGolden · 17/03/2024 11:40

Hello I am currently ranking over 20 on all 3 properties I have bidded on,How long did it takes to get you a property? If you don't mind me asking.I hope you have gotten 1 already.

Hello, which council are you with and what banding? I'm not yet housed but I've been accepted on a property and waiting to get a viewing. Hopefully that happens soon as I've been over a month now 😒 they are soooo slow. It took 1yr and half to get here

Hi
I’m on bucks home choice
band E under a relief duty (homeless from a different Borough after escaping DV)
if I’m owed a main duty band D is that the band I will always stay in? Both my children have special needs and we are stuck in temporary accommodation, I’m having to give up my previous life time secure tenancy as ex partner lives on same road

I'm in band E as well and it took 1 yr and half to be offered anything. Are they moving you up to band D and how long have you been bidding?

Karly39 · 21/03/2024 18:11

@Tamimun I’ve only just been accepted as still under 56 day relief duty but if I’m accepted for main duty hopefully move to Band D,
also I’m filling out a medical assessment form but not sure if that can make a difference whilst in temporary accommodation.
my first bid 150 bids on a 3 bed ranked over 20 so I got a long wait. Just so worried giving up my life time tenancy due to DV and being stuck in temp years but me and my kids are now safe just a waiting game now.
have you been allocated housing now even in band E?

Everything will help your case, don't dismiss anything. Been as you've just been accepted it will take some time. I'd say try and not make it your main focus as it'll take even longer, I've learned that. I got very discouraged in the beginning, constantly being sad and telling myself it's taking so long until I stopped. That's when I started getting accepted on properties. I got accepted on a property that was literally a dungeon and I had to decline, but thanks God I've now been accepted on a new build. I've done the application form and everything and just waiting for them to set a viewing now

Amazing hope it all works out this time and good luck in your new home,
The first month really drained me, now I’m just happy we are all safe.
I think I only get one offer, that could even be private rent Aswell but I have my fingers & toes crossed it all will work out for the best in the end.

It will all work out hun. Believe that. You and your beautiful babies are safe and that's what really matters. Focus on your happiness and wellbeing and it'll all fall into place nicely, you'd see.

I was in the same boat as you and Just accepted an offer on a lovely home. It has been really stressful and disheartening as I kept bidding but felt like I was getting nowhere even though I was ranking in the top 10 for a good 9 months. They extended my relief duty and I was on it for 9 months which I heard would work out better.

Karly39 · 08/04/2024 10:34

Wow well done, I thought it was 56 days for relief duty then they have to make a decision if main duty is owed ?
I have been placed in band D as homeless and it’s the lowest band with around 300 people waiting for a 3 bed, at the moment there is around 100-200 bids on 3 beds and I’m ranking over 20 so probably one of the last.

Thanks. Yeah usually it is 56 days but because my local housing office are so short staffed they were keeping people in the relief duty for longer even when they have been given the main homeless duty, but I was told this would be better because I would be higher on the list in band C than I would be in band B (homeless). Hopefully you should get somewhere soon, bear in mind they may offer you a property much sooner. If it helps I ranked over 20 a few times then in the top 10 and even 60 and 70 over the months so I found it really confusing.

Hello, I am currently on a band b on bucks home choice i have a one bed flat waiting for a 2 bed and have been given a section 21 as my landlord wants to sell, when I’m bidding I’m currently 6-10 but has been that for a while it seems the section 21 hasn’t made a difference, has anyone been in the same situation and could guide on what to do please

Livinglife86 · 04/05/2024 20:44

I think it might depend on how long you've been in Band B.

Hi I have been nominated by council for housing association property a week ago still waiting to hear from H/A I’m praying I get this does anyone know what is the next step?

Aprilmay1996 · 04/05/2024 20:49

I have been on since my son was born so I've been on it since February 2023, I wasn’t to worried as sharing a bedroom with him isn’t a issue, but now I’ve received a section 21 I need to be out by two months

If you're not too concerned whether it's a flat or a house. You should probably get house pretty soon because band B's tend to get housed within a year or two.

I would advise you to keep on the case with them. Let them know both in writing and on the phone that you have that section 21 because they have been very well known to forget about people. I recall them asking me about my eviction two months after the eviction took place.

@Aprilmay1996 I was on Bucks band C my daughter was born in May 2023. I went on the list in July. I was nominated for a housing association property in Feb I really don’t understand their processes. I was 11-20 at first then went down to 1-5. I think it was because it was a few properties going up as a whole block so I was lucky. Are you looking for a specific area? I was only able to bid in South Bucks.

@Karly39 if you’ve been nominated someone will contact you. I think I waited about a week I called the council and they told me it could be two. After that you can’t contact H/A direct.

Karly39 · 04/05/2024 21:17

@SummerSu23 thank you does a nomination mean an offer or is that up to the housing association?
They did say I’m only one to be nominated and I can’t bid at the moment

I’m not fussed as I’m desperate now and I’ve even gone wider out as my partner has a connection for work near Winslow I drive so I am bidding a lot I’m just not hopeful that I will get anywhere by 2 months , when I went into the council they told me to not leave until my landlord goes to court but I’m afraid I’m not that type of person and I understand they want to sell, but got told it If i leave on the date of the section 21 I am then making myself homeless on purpose
