Social Housing Ranking confusing

Livinglife86 · 03/09/2022 22:15

Thank you for reading my post. Please could anyone explain what the council ranking numbers mean?

Example: 1-5, 6-10 & 11-20

I called the council and enquired however the operator said she didn't understand the ranking system either ☹️

I am currently in Band B the property I bid upon placed me at 11-20. I asked my Dad what this meant and was told "I don't have hope in hell..." however he admitted he had no idea how the ranking system worked.

Do I just wait for the bid to end then enquire again? I won't deny I feel a little dismayed as it was a lovely property and a new build in one of the nicest areas so it proved very popular very quickly 😣

With your rank and position I would you be really surprised if you are not offered something out of your choices.

Carb34 · 07/01/2025 16:19

So there is still a chance

Turmerictolly · 07/01/2025 19:55

@Carb34 , you have a really good chance of getting something soon so be careful what you bid on in case they offer it to you.

Stomacharmeleon · 07/01/2025 22:12

When I was in a very similar position I was. It always amazed me how long the procedure took. And then getting the keys etc. Drove me mad.

Carb34 · 07/01/2025 22:21

Mine is down as homeless i have been told it won't take to long

Kaspa1990 · 17/06/2025 11:55

We have been bidding on homelink for over 3 years now. Band B - as my daughter and son are sharing a room. Daughter now 14 years old and Son now 11 years old. And still showing over 20 and sometimes 11- 20 on bidding. Feel like giving up.

Livinglife86 · 17/06/2025 15:24

@Kaspa1990 what area are you in? And what is your current circumstances are you in a 2 bed?

OP posts:
Kaspa1990 · 18/06/2025 22:49

2 bedroom Suffolk

Livinglife86 · 19/06/2025 08:19

@Kaspa1990i’m not to sure as they may say your daughter can sleep In the same room as you. However the layout and space of the room count too. However long have you been in band B? And does your council have a feedback section on the website which tells you who receives the property and what band they are?

I knew of a situation where although the applicant was B whenever they would bid, the property would be allocated to lower bands,C,D,E etc.

He queried why he was being ‘skipped’ and it was uncovered that although he was a band B on paper and online it was not correctly activated within their system so he was always showing over 20 the matter was corrected and he recently moved into a 2 bed home.

it’s worth checking out and asking and at the same time while you’re speaking to the person let them know of your situation and how unhappy you are.

thank you. Will give the a call tomorrow.

My daughter can’t share bedroom with me and her dad surly.

been bidding since 2022

feedback page shows some B but mostly A receiving the properties.

Livinglife86 · 19/06/2025 22:37

@Kaspa1990that is interesting…where is the boiler in your property? Is it in the kitchen or living room are you in a open planned property?

OP posts:
Livinglife86 · 20/06/2025 17:59

@Kaspa1990if your boiler is in the kitchen or living room and it’s open planed you have a good chance of priority moving up possibly to Band A

Kaspa1990 · 21/06/2025 18:29

In kitchen, not open the planned

Hay25 · 09/09/2025 07:56

I am so confused, last month I was band C due to overcrowding. They moved me up due to an illness to band B. However my ranking has gone up from 6-10 to 11-20. How is this possible?

because more people have joined your band who have a higher priority than you and/or have been waiting longer than you, so you have moved down the ranking within that band.

I have just started a new FB group entitled Bucks housing hub.

I noticed how hard it can be to find clear, up-to-date information about new affordable housing developments in Buckinghamshire. Especially for those of us trying to plan ahead, apply, or just stay informed about what’s coming next.

The group is here to:
🏡 Share updates on new social and affordable housing projects across Bucks

📍 Keep track of planning applications, reserved matters, and developer announcements

🤝 Create a space for open discussion, advice, and community support

💬 Help local residents stay in the know without having to search a dozen different sites!

Whether you’re applying through Bucks Home Choice, looking for shared ownership options, or just keeping an eye on local developments, this group is for you.

let’s face facts most of us have been on the housing list way too long! the group mission will be to provide:

🥂🍾🏡 Upcoming affordable/social housing developments

✍🏽 Planning applications and reserved matters (like Slate Meadows, Abbey Barn South, etc.)

🚪👩‍💻Developer details (Taylor Wimpey, Berkeley Homes, Living Space, etc.)

📲💻Application openings on Bucks Home Choice / Locata

🚨Local news on housing policy, Section 106 allocations, and community impact.

i’ve only just started the group today so if you’re having trouble logging in, let me know if the link is correct ❤️

Hi all,

just a quick question - I’m with bucks home choice and I’ve been given a band A and I just wanted to ask, how long can I go without bidding? Reason being, I’m a mum to a 1 year old, I have very bad back and knee pains so my sisters help me out and therefore I need a house in an area close to my parents so say for example, no houses or flats came up in that area for 4 weeks, would that be fine to not bid?

Livinglife86 · 02/11/2025 15:06

I think you have a 8 week settling period I’m not sure if this is still the case. After that you would be expected to bid on anything that is suitable. I noticed you mentioned you have some physical ailments are you seeking an adapted property?

this thread is getting a little old from when I first began you can join my group below once accepted private message me for housing advice if you’re interested. Best of luck with everything ❤️
