Just that really! Somewhere between grey and beige? I’ve got paralysis by analysis so need some outside opinions! Thanks

I'm voting for Egyptian cotton too. More economic than Skimming Stone but lovely throughout

butterflyfox · 10/01/2022 22:00

I am/was a total paint snob. The only room in my house not in F and B is dulux Egyptian cotton and I think it my favourite. All those years of swearing you can tell and other paints are not flat enough etc. But it’s just lovely

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 10/01/2022 22:14

Another vote for Farrow & Ball Pointing. It's such a nice warm white and goes with everything, looks great in both sun and shade. We have it throughout our hall and staircase as well as ceilings in individual rooms.

F & B Elephants Breath

Another for Egyptian cotton, living room , hall ,upstairs , stairwell and a spare bedroom all done in it. Looks great and goes with everything. Sophisticated shade

*I started with skimming stone in the front hall and liked it so much continued it through the whole hall way up the stairs and on the landing.

I have also now painted my lounge in the same.

When a guest commented on the lovely tones in the decor they could not believe it was the same paint.*

This. It looks different in every room.

I have a copy of F and B's Dropcloth on the stairs and landings of our tall, three-story house -- it's a grey-beige that hits the right spot between not being too yellow or too grey.

@DobbyTheHouseElk

Natural Hessian. Dulux.
I was going to suggest Natural Hessian, my favourite colour, warm not too dark, buy the EasyCare one though much easier to keep clean. I have so many compliments on this shade.

Johnstone’s Ivory Spray

Dilemma22 · 11/01/2022 09:28

You are all brilliant, lots for me to consider! Would anyone know what a close match to this colour would be?

It looks like a cold colour.

I have aged white on the wood in my house.

Wimborne white on kixthen, as recommended on here and extremely happy with it.

Ivory cloud in living room

Snowpaw · 11/01/2022 22:09

Another vote for dulux Egyptian cotton - it’s a nice warm but neutral tone that you barely notice, it just makes rooms feel smart and cosy I think

Eddmr · 11/01/2022 22:16

I have gardenia. It goes with everything.

Knittingnanny2 · 11/01/2022 22:18

Another vote for nutmeg white, the whole of my small house is painted in it. Next year I’m having it all freshened up and repainted with.. nutmeg white

JenniferWooley · 11/01/2022 22:44

I have Johnstones China Clay in my hall it's a perfect greige

I have Dulux Mellow mocha

BasiliskStare · 12/01/2022 00:18

Another Cornforth White here with @LittleOverWhelmed - it looks like your photograph @Dilemma22 - but as others have said it depends on the light etc. I would go down the same tonal range but not do the house in all one colour .

That said after 7 or 8 years I am bored of neutral and thinking of a pale grey / blue for sitting room - would not be for everyone.

mobear · 12/01/2022 00:29

Farrow & Ball Strong White if you’re looking for something with a grey undertone.

notangelinajolie · 12/01/2022 00:38

Dulux Egyptian Cotton is by far the nicest colour I have ever painted my walls. I've used it in 2 houses so far and once the builders have moved out I will be buying it once again for the house we recently bought. It especially looks nice in the bathroom contrasting nicely with all the white.

BasiliskStare · 12/01/2022 01:28

@mobear - My kitchen is strong white - I love it - looks nice when the sun comes through the windows but cosier than basic white when not - not a hint of yellow. I did once get a made up equivalent from somewhere and it shone slightly green like a space ship - never again - F&B Strong White ( but I do have a v small house so don't need many tins )

Friend of mine swears by Egyptian Cotton @notangelinajolie - her house looks very very nice ( as did the one before ) but I personally go for Strong White. Horses for Courses - No just to say said friend loves that Dulux colour

Alfixn · 12/01/2022 01:38

I love Strong White as well and I've used it in both my darkish utility and my very bright kitchen. People have asked me what it is.

(But some of these answers have me curious about Egyptian Cotton...)

KloppsTeeth · 12/01/2022 01:40

@Dilemma22 If you like Skimming Stone, you will also like Egyptian Cotton by Dulux.
According to this comparison site it is only distinguishable to the practiced eye.

Want to add, I have Egyptian Cotton in our living room. Absolutely love it and when it starts to look tired I’m going to paint it the same colour again.

AllTheUsernamesAreAlreadyTaken · 12/01/2022 01:45

I got some Wilkos paint in Oatmeal to use to just “put us on” until I decided what I wanted to do. It’s very much more beige than grey but I had become so fed up of seeing grey everywhere that I needed to palate cleanse before I spent any money decorating our new house. I ended up painting most of the house in it and keeping it.
It’s so warm and inviting in the hall and in the bedroom and living room it is a lovely warm neutral colour to add any other splashes of colour to.
