Just that really! Somewhere between grey and beige? I’ve got paralysis by analysis so need some outside opinions! Thanks

We have skimming stone and the light makes it look a very beachy/sand shade. It’s nice though, we like it.

Laura Ashley Dove grey is nice. It’s a white with a very light grey undertone. Might be discontinued but worth a look

I always reccomend skimming stone. Its beautiful & as previous posters have said looks different in every room depending on the light. It's also light enough that colour matching by a cheaper brand (like johnstones) works really well. Not quite the depth/range that you'd get with F&B but cheaper, more durable & easier to apply. Elephants breath is similar but in my opinion too grey, dark & dated to do a whole house.

Little green limestone is fantastic. Warm in some lighting, cool in others. Looks slightly grey or natural depending on the light and seems to take on the hue of the things in the room.

Really depends on the house, the position of the rooms( which direction does the room face)
I tend to only use white paint . However, I use different types . So I have brilliant white in some of the North facing rooms and chalky white in some of the south facing rooms.

Mine is Taubmans Altair half strength.

Pic with the blue frame was before. Kitchen is an after. Dog is the bedroom which is Taubmans ostrich feather. I find it has a bit of a green tinge.

Another vote for Dulux Timeless. I have it all through my house because I'm bad at making decisions but also because the house is small, and it is an incredibly restful neutral white.

I've just had my living room, hall, stairs and landing done in Valspar Navy Bean - despite the name it's a lovely pale neutral

Africa2go · 12/01/2022 11:56

I really think you need to try all of these in your own house to see which works. At some point or other, I have used quite alot of the colours mentioned so far :

Egyptian Cotton - used for hall, stairs and landing. It was a dark beige in our house.

Elephant's Breath - used in lounge - similar tone to Egyptian Cotton but darker.

Dulux Pebble Shore - actually lovely, 2 bedrooms (one small, one large). Looked greige in larger bedroom with more light, definitely more pale grey in the smaller bedroom.

Natural Hessian - meh - when a pp suggests painting lining paper with the paint colour and putting it in the room, we did this and it just looked like the lining paper hadn't been painted. We did end up using it in the kitchen but re-did it quite quickly as it just looked bare (like we'd lined the walls and then done nothing!)

Laura Ashley Dove Grey - used in a bedroom - was a true grey for us, no hint of beige.

I wouldn't touch Valspar paint with a barge pole, its awful stuff in my experience but thats just my personal view.

I'm surprised by your opinion of natural hessian as I love it!

My bedroom in my old house was this colour & looked really fresh with the white furniture. I now have it in my living room & it looks warm with the dark wood furniture & neutral soft furnishings.

I wouldn't say it was a greige though definitely more of a beige/taupe colour.

juliainthedeepwater · 12/01/2022 13:46

I've done f&b Pointing - it's a beautiful warm bright ivory shade

Africa2go · 12/01/2022 15:12

@JenniferWooley thats why I say the OP should try these colours in her own house, but you make the goof point that the other furnishings can also impact on the way the colour appears. You had white / dark wood furniture against the Natural Hessian whereas we had a painted kitchen in a pale sage colour and quite colourful stained glass windows and there was definitely no grey or depth of colour for us - it was just a beigey cream like lining paper - so it really does depend on the OP's setting.

  • good point Blush not goof, sorry!!
Lollollol2020 · 12/01/2022 15:22

Another vote for F&B elephants breath and also cornforth white which are actually quite similar but CW more grey than griege. I got both made up by Valspar. I have kitchen (including ceiling) and bathroom in CW and bedrooms and large lounge diner in EB. My hall stairs and landing are white.

mistletoeandwine2021 · 12/01/2022 20:30

We have painted a lot of our rooms shirting little green, its a warm white

Helenabelle · 02/03/2024 06:04

It’s not a cool colour

purdypuma · 02/03/2024 07:23

Only just seen this post but I have johnstones colour matched to elephants breath F&B to the chimney breast in my living room & skimming stone to the other walls. I have dark brown carpets & wasn't wanting to change them so this was neutral enough to go with them & still look modern.
