We put in an offer on a house at the end of January.

It’s bloody July and we have still not moved.

Everything on our side was done and dusted months ago.

Keep chasing solicitor, for the past six weeks they keep saying vendors are still going though enquiries.

Thankfully we are renting, but my God, i’ve never known anything like it.

@Gettingonabitnow yes we are. Only the contest comes to an end this month and the LL only want 6 month tennants.... so it’s going to be a pain having the conversation with him.

Arsebucket · 03/07/2021 14:56

*contract, not contest.

we honestly thought we’d be gone from here by now!

I have yet to speak to anyone at all who has been happy with their conveyancing solicitor. I have moved into a new-build close of 7 houses and every single one of them has had solicitor troubles: delays, disinterest, not answering phone or email. Are there any good ones out there I wonder?

We moved a couple of weeks ago and are happy with ours, it's the third move we've used her on. But she charges a premium, you do get what you pay for with her. Problem is when other people in the chain use rubbish solicitors that hold everything up, not much you can do about that

sarahc336 · 03/07/2021 22:16

Just as a different perspective, we've accepted an offer but now we literally cannot find anywhere suitable to buy it if something big enough cones up it's sold within hours. Hate making my first time buyers wait but there's literally no where for us to go, the housing market is mad. It's difficult from wherever you are in the chain I'd say 😩 xx

We got a great one. But I got a recommendation to her from a friend who is a solicitor in another area of work, their experience coming from their own clients using that conveyancer so being of more than one transaction. Personal recommendation is the way to go if you can get one.
beguilingeyes · 03/07/2021 23:22

I just don't understand how, in this day and age of digital everything, it still takes so long to buy a house. It's barbaric.

CatAndHisKit · 04/07/2021 00:09

It's barbaric

It really is!
been on the hook of my game-playing buyer for 9 months.

The solicitor at the top of our chain, the one being a nightmare, sent a FAX to the lender the other week. Fax. WTAF.

Arsebucket · 04/07/2021 08:52

The best excuse I’ve heard from our solicitor was this “I needed a pen but I didn’t have one on me - I couldn’t share one because of covid.”

I didn’t know if I should laugh or cry at that.

Then she did her usual disappearing for a week, only to resource with “the vendors are still going though their questions” for the SIXTH week in a fucking row.

*surface with. I am very tired and very stressed.

No one tells us anything unless we repeatedly call and email. It’s very frustrating when you think of what you pay them.

Gettingonabitnow · 04/07/2021 09:11

Jesus Christ! Thats outrageous.

At what point do you give up though? I love the house we are trying to by but I am literally in bits over it. We need to be in somewhere secure and stable before my eldest starts her next term at school, her commute at the moment is ridiculous bless her. There are a few decent rentals coming and going but obviously we are letting them pass by x

Arsebucket · 04/07/2021 09:15

I’d pull out tomorrow to be honest if something better came up, but this was the best of a bad bunch.

We’ve been messed around so much. About two months ago, we were told that the vendors solicitor said if we pushed for any dates, they would pull out.

The trouble is, house prices have increased so much here they could easily put it on the market now for 10k more. I hope they don’t turn into arseholes on exchange and ask for more, because we couldn’t do it (and wouldn’t).

I don’t think our solicitor actually does chase anything.

Gettingonabitnow · 04/07/2021 09:20

What part of the country are you in? We are NW.

It’s my fear too that if we start playing hare ball they’ve say forget it and put it back on the market sold within 24 hours

Arsebucket · 04/07/2021 09:30

West Midlands, in a horrible little town. I can’t believe anyone would want to live here, let alone snap up all the shite houses 😂

Dh is from here originally. We looked at moving back out of necessity 5 years ago. Houses were honestly 30k cheaper than they are now. it’s insane.

OP posts:
Arsebucket · 04/07/2021 09:32

Oh and ours would do that too.

The threatened that when we were trying to get the surveyor in. The called the estate agent and told them to tell us, to tell them that their lunch, dinner and rest times would not be disturbed and if we kept asking, they would put it on the market.

We let them chose the time/date he could go round - twice they didn’t open the door.

OP posts:
Gettingonabitnow · 04/07/2021 10:08

Wow. They sound awful.

MinnieMountain · 04/07/2021 11:05

Some lenders still require things to be faxed. I’m not saying the solicitor isn’t crap, just that they might not have been right then.

Gettingonabitnow · 05/07/2021 06:31

Please let us hear something today 🤦‍♀️ Another sleepless night having imaginary conversations with my solicitor!

Arsebucket · 05/07/2021 10:32

Fingers crossed.

Fired off another email asking for an update, just like we do most Monday's. Tried calling but obviously, she not in the office. Will expect the usual “the vendors are still doing enquiries” reply on Thursday. FML 🤦🏽‍♀️

OP posts:
Gettingonabitnow · 05/07/2021 11:13

I’m literally sat waiting by my phone waiting for any kind of update. I’m so jealous of everyone who’s sales went through. Someone has to have the rough ride I guess but I’m over it now!

B0YS · 05/07/2021 13:29

I sent another email asking for an update too. Ffs, I feel so stressed all the time in this limbo, I can’t really plan things because I think we could get a date any day now! It feels like it’s never going to happen though.

Gettingonabitnow · 05/07/2021 14:03

@B0YS I feel the same, like it’s just never going to happen for us when all around us are ‘yay completed’.

And here we are again today hurtling through the afternoon with no news!

Gettingonabitnow · 07/07/2021 06:41

Woken up (back at 5.30 🙄) feeling so over it. Dealt with the jumped up 19 yr old estate agent yesterday who talked at me and told me no change, and no idea when there would be any movement at the top of the chain. I’m so fed up.

Arsebucket · 07/07/2021 08:21

We gave up speaking to the estate agents. They never got back to us.

Dh tried to call the solicitor twice this week, they always say she will call back, she hasn’t.

We are getting seriously pissed of now. The last thing we had to do on our side was the searches. They came back on 10th May. 2 bloody months!!!

OP posts:
Gettingonabitnow · 07/07/2021 08:38

@Arsebucket that is ridiculous. Has the solicitor got someone more senior above her you can go to? I would got to them, and start threatening complaints to the solicitors regulation authority, that should get a call back!
