What do you think of this house?

Considering to buy a house similar to the below. Potentially maxing our budget. What are ppl thoughts. It's all very new (too new?) worried it will be difficult to sell if we do decide to move...what would you do? Buy old and do up or go fir something all new and ready to live in...

i don't like it

It looks like one of the "deluxe" chalets you get at a holiday park

QueenieButcher · 29/12/2020 21:55

I would prefer this one 0.4miles away!
Holmesdale Road, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN13

catgirl1976 · 29/12/2020 21:55

Nothing againsts chalets at holiday parks btw - just wouldn't want to live in one

MrsLorensen · 29/12/2020 21:55

Barn conversion looks much nicer.

TheEchtMeaningofChristmas · 29/12/2020 21:56

That house looks Australian. And not in a good way.

happytobemrsg · 29/12/2020 21:59

To me the garden is too small, but lovely other than that. I don’t like being overlooked

Gingerkittykat · 29/12/2020 22:02

Just think of the window cleaning bills!

wewereliars · 29/12/2020 22:05

All those windows and nothing to look at. Way overpriced, a house like that needs to be on its own not in an identikit estate. so commercial looking. I suspect it would be difficult to sell . I think it's a bit marmite

Didkdt · 29/12/2020 22:07

I was thinking of the window cleaner and you’d practically need a housekeep to keep up with the polishing and cleaning of the glass staircase and glossy surfaces
There’s nowhere for children to spend time in the garden

iftherewereahorseyinthehouse · 29/12/2020 22:07

I live close to Sevenoaks and if I had 1.5 mill to spend I definitely wouldn't buy that. But each to their own.

D4rwin · 29/12/2020 22:08

It's a bland box. But it could be improved. The lack of garden would really suck, a lot of people shopping in that budget range want privacy and some quiet. I imagine voluntarily choosing a property so unsuitable during another lockdown would put it on a lower footing than something with a garden. Also the throwaway bedroom with no bathroom when the others all do irritates me. So it's clearly not intended as a bedroom by the designer or they just couldn't use the space better. Odd. Maybe a laundry?

iguanadonna · 29/12/2020 22:09

I actually rather like the house - I like modernist boxes.

Several buts, though, since I know the place.

The location is quite good for the station, but the hill up to South Park is a BASTARD. We lived there for a few months when I was a baby and my mother still talks about getting up it with a pram or in car in snow or ice.

There were problems with flooding at the end of Plymouth Drive for years and years. I'd not trust it.

I think it's overpriced. I've seen nicer houses (fewer bathrooms but proper outside space, individual builds) go for much less than that in the last year.

So it's a nah from me. For 1.5 million you can live somewhere nicer, even within walking distance of Sevenoaks School, if that's what you're after.

Shedbuilder · 29/12/2020 22:13

Why when you could have this?

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/98932757#/

iguanadonna · 29/12/2020 22:15

@Shedbuilder yeah, that's actually a nice house, and close to probably the best primary, (though pushy, so depends what you want).

Coffeeandcocopops · 29/12/2020 22:17

@Frenchfancy

I dream of having a new house, I have only ever lived in old properties. But there is no way in Gods green earth I would pay 1,5 million for that, when you could get this www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/95484335#/ and have £375000 in change.
That is beautiful.
Jalfreziqueen · 29/12/2020 22:18

It’s very unique and I am sure will not appeal to most. But if you like it go for it

viques · 29/12/2020 22:18

Do you have kids? Where would they play, kick a ball, ride their bikes, make garden dens.? Nowhere to have a garden, grow some veg, dig holes. If you had a dog or a cat there is nowhere for them either. it’s an over large house designed to appeal to a couple without children.

For that amount of money I would want a home not a show house.

Plonque · 29/12/2020 22:20

I don't think it's got nearly enough downstairs space to allow for a family befitting of a six bed house.

theverygrumpysanta · 29/12/2020 22:21

Completely overpriced even for Sevenoaks...also it’s been on the market for months properties in Sevenoaks (that aren’t vastly overpriced) usually sell fast - that should tell you something.

JacobReesMogadishu · 29/12/2020 22:23

Also it’s very unlikely you’ll use the dining room as a dining room.

So would you use it for something else.....office, second sitting room? Or will it be an unused room?

Littlepond · 29/12/2020 22:24

Not to my taste at all and if I had that much money to spend on a house there’s a lot of much nicer styles I’d be looking at!

But I’m not you 🤷🏼‍♀️

iamadramallama · 29/12/2020 22:24

All I think when I look at that is "how much?!?" For that money you could buy a mansion plus land (I'm in Yorkshire)

friendlycat · 29/12/2020 22:25

Sevenoaks is expensive yes that’s a given, but that house is horrible with an awful garden and overpriced for the area. You can get much better properties in that area for the budget.
Would have a limited onward sale market. It’s a no for me.

Isthatitnow · 29/12/2020 22:25

I would hate to have to replace all those windows at some point....what sort of guarantee do they have?!

FenellaVelour · 29/12/2020 22:26

The wood is already looking washed out and tired, it’s basically an ugly box with no garden, and there’s a huge amount of wasted space... large hallway when the lounge is smaller than my lounge - and you could buy six of my houses (in the South) for that price! With a budget of 1.5m you could get something really lovely even in a pricey area. This isn’t lovely.
