Considering to buy a house similar to the below. Potentially maxing our budget. What are ppl thoughts. It's all very new (too new?) worried it will be difficult to sell if we do decide to move...what would you do? Buy old and do up or go fir something all new and ready to live in...

Agree, it's very ugly! The huge windows in the bedroom would put me off as well.

Toddlerteaplease · 29/12/2020 22:28

One of the bedrooms doesn't have an en-suite. But there is no family bathroom.

Happymum12345 · 29/12/2020 22:32

It’s amazing. I would buy it if I could!

JacobReesMogadishu · 29/12/2020 22:36

If you needed a six bedroom house you’d need more living space. It’s top heavy.

SaltyTootsieToes · 29/12/2020 22:46

This is t to my taste a d it doesn’t appear to have a garden (key requirement for us), so I myself would not buy it

However, I can appreciate the standard to which the house has been done, it’s decorated en point for the style of house abc looks in perfect order

If the style appeals to you and its price correctly for the size of house in the area, then go for it.

Stayingin2020 · 29/12/2020 22:47

@FlamedToACrisp

I loathe everything about it and don't think it looks worth one-third of the money - it reminds me of those lorry containers which have been made into homes.

but the point is, do YOU like it?

Well, I don't but DH does! Hence the question...all this feedback is very useful as it will help us discuss the matter further (and convince him to look elsewhere)Grin

How about Tonbridge/TW? Tunbridge wells seems to have nice properties too...

I love it and i dont really like modern. Hate the kitchen though so thats a deal breaker. Oh and its about 1.4m over budget 🤷🏼‍♀️

MrsTWH · 29/12/2020 23:00

Far too top-heavy for me. I don’t need 6 bedrooms and I would want a separate office space and family room downstairs as well as separate dining and living rooms. I don’t like the outside of it either.

Burnthurst187 · 29/12/2020 23:03

I like it but I don't think it would be a house buyers with young children would consider as there's no garden as such and there's quite a few steps. This will also put others off too

RainbowMum11 · 29/12/2020 23:32

Not my taste at all, but nowhere near my budget or an area I would be interested in living in. All down to your own preferences.

GrumpyHoonMain · 29/12/2020 23:41

Did this house come up on location, location, location a while ago? If so is it near a train track?

AKissAndASmile · 29/12/2020 23:43

@Chumleymouse if my numbers come up before yours do, I'm having that house 😍

Hathertonhariden · 30/12/2020 06:15

Poorly designed office conversion, overlooked and the garden looks like the approach to a leisure centre. The lack of set dressing of the outdoor space (apart from the poorly positioned heater) highlights the limitations of the outdoor space. Would you want to eat/sit out in the gloomy carport?

JacobReesMogadishu · 30/12/2020 06:45

There also seems to be 2 schools, a church and a leisure centre at the end of the road, parking might get busy.

Bluesheep8 · 30/12/2020 07:33

I think everything about it is hideous. But everyone has different tastes.

ThroughThickAndThin01 · 30/12/2020 07:42

I really like it but I don’t think I’d be brave enough to buy it. I don’t live too far away but would prefer Tunbridge Wells over Sevenoaks. Or Hildenborough.

SuitedandBooted · 30/12/2020 10:25

I like modern, but it's very poor value for that ££££££. It's style over substance, and could be a hard sell in the future. That kind of cladding can look really shabby :

Wasted space inside
Close to neighbours
Garden is very small for the money
Seems to be a lot of neighbours/overlooking?
Can't easily add value due to small garden

Shedbuilder · 30/12/2020 10:41

Have you ever lived in a house with such huge bedroom windows that are overlooked — as some of these seem to be? All that glass is fine when there's no chance of anyone looking in but is really horrible when there's a chance of being caught exposed. So you have to have voiles or put up shutters.

Minimalism that's done well is very, very expensive. This is mediocre. The kitchen gives the game away.

I think it's the kind of house that will date very badly. All the others that people have linked to are houses that you can help age well, with scope for garden rooms/ offices and other options down the line. This is just a big naff lump with very close neighbours.

I work in the construction sector and from the plans that are crossing my desk I'm seeing a move away from houses like this, with huge amounts of overlooked glazing, to place with a more organic, quirky, human feel. People are turning back to character and a more homely feel.

Xenia · 30/12/2020 10:47

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/95484335#/ this linked above is even nicer than the other local one I linked to.

Do consider being over looked at others have mentioned and privacy. Also the steps as mentioned by others are an issue - lots of people buy as they will stay in a house until they are 90 so things like steps can become a big issue as you get older.

Also I always like lots of separate rooms. When we bought this 5000 s foot house where I now live we ndeed 4 totally separate downstairs living rooms - one my office (I have worked from home since 1994 as a lawyer), a music room - my husband as he then was is a music teacher and organist, then we had 3 teenagers then plus then 2 new baby twins so a room each for the two groups of children was important all with shutting and even lockable doors to keep us all apart. (We were obviously in 1997 planning for covid 19 everyone being stuck at home and NOT wanting to be near each other)

userxx · 30/12/2020 10:50

@Xenia That looks like the amityville house. Not a chance.

Shedbuilder · 30/12/2020 11:10

That's a beautiful house, Xenia: space, light and character — and a garden which offers lots of options.

Hello2021bye2020 · 30/12/2020 11:20

Agreed, this is a beautiful house, @Xenia

iguanadonna · 30/12/2020 12:56

The Morley house is beautiful.

But there you would (iirc) be looking at driving everywhere. Absolutely everywhere.

With 4 DCs (is that right?) the OP would be condemning herself to 20 years of constantly driving people places, and forking out for cars and lessons as soon as each turned 17.

Sevenoaks district has really no public transport.

The undesirable and overpriced original house was at least within walking distance of shops, activities, schools. Quite long walks, but nonetheless.

If I were moving back to this area, I'd be thinking about 1) schools; 2) not being a taxi; 3) houses.

SuitedandBooted · 30/12/2020 13:02

Wow, I love the house Xenia linked to. Classic, yet quirky, and plenty of scope to add value

Suzi888 · 30/12/2020 13:03

@Xenia @Stayingin2020 this house is gorgeous! That’s what I’d have in mind of spending that kind of money in my dreamsGrin
