What do you think of this house?

Considering to buy a house similar to the below. Potentially maxing our budget. What are ppl thoughts. It's all very new (too new?) worried it will be difficult to sell if we do decide to move...what would you do? Buy old and do up or go fir something all new and ready to live in...

Aside from my thoughts re the personal taste aspects, I do have issues with this style of house.

Flat roof? I know these boxy modernist buildings are fashionable but I’d be concerned with the medium/long term watertightness (!) of it. Flat roofs are pretty infamous for leaks.

hiredandsqueak · 29/12/2020 19:20

Wouldn't be for me, looks like something from the seventies and no garden.

MobLife · 29/12/2020 19:23

Great sq ft but the outdoor space would put me off....also I bet it's like a bloody oven in hot weather
Sevenoaks is a nice area but I reckon you'd be paying over the odds for that house

Doublechocolatetiffin · 29/12/2020 19:24

The outside space is awful, no way I'd spend that money on that plot no matter what the house is like. I'm not a massive fan of the house either, decor is a bit much for me. I'd want a proper garden and a decent amount of space between me and the next house. I hate how they cram large new build houses onto tiny plots. After 2020 lockdown year I'd say decent outside space will be a very big selling point.

Chumleymouse · 29/12/2020 19:24

I like modern house designs could do with a bigger garden but it’s nice

www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/85869571#/ I’ve got my eyes on this when my lotto numbers come up 😀

Ylvamoon · 29/12/2020 19:25

I really like it, but wrong time in my life.

Small terraced garden, no grass.

Open plan... not keen with dogs and DC.
And the fixtures/ fittings like banister- too much cleaning. 🤦‍♀️

Chumleymouse · 29/12/2020 19:25

Remember today’s modern box house is tomorrow’s period property.

AcornAutumn · 29/12/2020 19:26

@reefedsail

The house is OK, but I'd be wanting more than OK for that sort of money. The price hurts my West country eyeballs.
It's hurt my london eyeballs.

I know it's an expensive area, but that much? I think the plot is small.

The number of bathrooms obviously cuts into bedroom size but if you are in a situation where everyone wants that...

Also, the garden confuses me. The description says extensive garden....is that it? Or is there a shared garden for the road as well?

I think there are modern houses which look a lot nicer.

AcornAutumn · 29/12/2020 19:27

@Chumleymouse

Remember today’s modern box house is tomorrow’s period property.
Speaking as a dweller of a small flat who hopes one day to have a house, that is sad.
Littlefluffyclouds13 · 29/12/2020 19:29

So much grey!!'

CoronaIsWatching · 29/12/2020 19:29

Not a fan. Too boxy and don't like big windows like that.

chloechloe · 29/12/2020 19:29

I’m a big fan of modern houses and we’re looking to build something similar ourselves if we ever find a plot of land.

If buying something like this you’ll be paying a premium for the fact that it’s new and perfectly decorated. If you’re maxing your budget but possibly wanting to sell in a few years then that’s not a good idea IMO as you’re unlikely to make any profit on it.

As for the house itself there are a few negatives:

I don’t like the fact that it’s on a road of seemingly identical houses.

The plots are very close together - not what I’d expect for houses of this size. They don’t have any real garden.

Why haven’t they put in a cloakroom given the size of the hallway?

The en-suites have been put in to make it sound luxurious, but do you really want 4 tiny wet rooms. I’d rather have 2 or 3 decent sized bathrooms. Funny that only the master en suite is shown as you probably can’t swing a cat in the others.

I don’t know the area but imagine you can find something better at that price. You’ll be paying a premium price here I suspect and I would only part with the cash if I absolutely loved it, wasn’t bothered about the garden and wasn’t planning on moving for many years.

troppibambini · 29/12/2020 19:29

It doesn't matter what anyone else thinks but as you asked it would be a no from me. As others have said it's got no garden to speak of.
I would never buy a house that's brand new and completely done I would find something for a million and use the other money to make it me dream house rather than what a developer thinks is my dream house.

PickAChew · 29/12/2020 19:30

It looks like a really practical house apart from that awful staircase that would be a nightmare with kids and wouldn't be out of place in an office block.

AcornAutumn · 29/12/2020 19:30

@Littlefluffyclouds13

So much grey!!'
That jumped out at me as well but it can be changed

My sister would love all that grey.

halpplz483 · 29/12/2020 19:31

I love it! but would want cosy lighting

Echobelly · 29/12/2020 19:33

I quite like it, but agree I don't know how it will age.

Odd to have a fairly small 'dining room', not that near the kitchen - would think of it more as an office perhaps.

Has that obsession with EVERYONE MUST HAVE A BATHROOM so it's a shame only the master suite has a bath and everyone else only gets shower. Otherwise quite a nice layout.

Outdoor space is rather sterile, but could be softened up with more planters, maybe not a great space for kids but ideal if you can't be arsed with gardening!

SantaMonicaPier · 29/12/2020 19:34

Personally no, not keen on modern boxes like container crates, especially at that price. I'd be going for something older and more classically designed.

Clymene · 29/12/2020 19:34

I like the outside but for that money, I wouldn't wang to live on a housing estate of identikit houses and have a back garden which looks like a municipal depot

Suzi888 · 29/12/2020 19:35

I don’t have 1.5 million spare, but if I did I wouldn’t touch this with a barge pole. It reminds me of the budget £175k flats around here. Don’t like it at all.
No view and it’s a tiny box.

Clymene · 29/12/2020 19:35

And the decor is hideous

toomanyhobbies · 29/12/2020 19:35

With all that glass how easy is it to get some fresh air in without having to have a door open. You know on sunny spring days when you might want a bit of air? The first bedroom pictures looks like it doesn’t have an opening window only door not good

Clymene · 29/12/2020 19:36

Wang? Really ipad, you thought I meant to type wang? Confused

SilenceOfThePrams · 29/12/2020 19:36

That middle little bedroom. No en suite - but all the bathrooms are en-suite so what happens to the person in that room? Where do they go to the loo or shower?

toolazytothinkofausername · 29/12/2020 19:36

Not for me at all.

I dislike the layout, the location, and the price.
