Considering to buy a house similar to the below. Potentially maxing our budget. What are ppl thoughts. It's all very new (too new?) worried it will be difficult to sell if we do decide to move...what would you do? Buy old and do up or go fir something all new and ready to live in...

Oversized city flat is about right. As a flat, it might not be bad, although neither the exterior nor the interior is really my style. As an actual, stand-alone house, it's a complete waste of a plot.

thosetalesofunexpected · 29/12/2020 21:11

Hi Op
This housing property look like really expensive property.

Most/all the rooms look quite spacious, except dining area,it could give that kind of impression of being cramped cause of photo editing position.
I ment this housing property definately needs personal touches to give more warmth ambience such as nice candles etc

The art of fengi shui think could be beneficial here.
Plus lovely cosy fake fur rugs/nice rattan rugs.

Important to keep authentically, mimimlist look feel of this house.

I like most of the rooms spaces the decor of walls,
I think even though the furniture is mismatched in main living room,it does in my opinion, makes it a bit more interesting.

littlepattilou · 29/12/2020 21:13

@Stayingin2020 One of the ugliest houses I have ever seen. Sorry.

I genuinely believe you could get something WAY better than that for that kind of money.

I can't think of anything positive to say about it. It's just awful Sad

Xenia · 29/12/2020 21:13

It is not to my taste so I suspect you might have trouble selling it in the end. It is freehold and it is 3665 sq feet so not that bad BUT if you want to plant veg in the garden you don't get that so in my view you would be better off going a bit further out of Sevenoaks and getting a proper garden.

As people say these things get very tatty in the way Victoria brick never does. The wood gets all weathered and dirty and bits come off it. Check the insurance issues over wooden cladding although it doesn't look like much cladding to me.

it has a flat roof, They are notorious and often end up leaking.
I would steer clear.
This one is much much nicer

@Saltblood

‘Straight Outta Swindon’

Looks like they rehashed an ex callcentre depot trying to pass off as contemporary homes for mugs wiling to pay a million.

Grin

Couldn't have put it better myself!

YesMeLady · 29/12/2020 21:15

I dont like it at all it's in the middle of nowhere and just looks very industrial you can find a lovely character house for less than that near Sevenoaks.

InMulieribus · 29/12/2020 21:15

Completely a matter of taste, and this house is absolutely the opposite of my taste (Georgian). However, the only thing that matters is that it works for you.

Terminallysleepdeprived · 29/12/2020 21:15

For 1.5mil I would expect a whole lot more, even in Sevenoaks.

Personally I don't like the house, its too clinical, has no character, no soul. But it is what a lot of people love.

Lovemusic33 · 29/12/2020 21:16

We have a few of these (well very similar) near us, I’m not keen on them due to the lack of garden and the coldness of the inside. I think if I had that amount of money to spend I wouldn’t chose that style of house unless it was set in a forest away from other houses 🤔

sqirrelfriends · 29/12/2020 21:17

Its a lovely house but I would expect more for the money, even in Sevenoaks.

Most people looking at a five bed will have a family so will want a good garden, that terrace would be a nightmare with my 2 year old.

yikesanotherbooboo · 29/12/2020 21:23

I agree that it looks a bit dated and that the reason one moves out to Kent is for greenery . Too many tiny en suites , no garden ,unsuitable for children or pets, poorly thought out downstairs layout etc. Looking forward with four children you will need lots of adaptable downstairs accomodation and plenty of space for kicking a ball.Decor can be improved but that really isn't a good family house and is very expensive.!

thosetalesofunexpected · 29/12/2020 21:25

Hi Op
I don't really like the wooden cladding front of this house.
It looks over-sized.

(I don't like the goldfish bowl massive windows too.

I prefer houses with gardens and houses with a lot more character soul,
It does have somewhat a sterile box feel to the place like other Poster said...

CurlyhairedAssassin · 29/12/2020 21:26

it's one of the fugliest houses I've seen in a long time. No private driveway out in front. Where do all the visitors park? Entrance hall oversized for the space, probably designed to make viewers go "wow!" when they walk in. All those big windows are designed to have fantastic views and bring the outside in but why would you want to bring in some farm outbuildings? That is what it looks like. The dining room looks small for a house that size (lovely relaxing view of the garage as you're eating, too!)

Outside (picture 18) looks like where you wait to get on a ride at Alton Towers.

But I see it's under offer so.....

jessstan1 · 29/12/2020 21:29

I think it looks quite good from the pictures. The thing about new houses is in a few years they no longer seem new, they develop character; plants make a great difference, it does seem to have a small garden.

It's up to you op, nice to have to do anything to it, you can just move in and live.

Makingnumber2 · 29/12/2020 21:33

For that price I would want a larger driveway for guest parking, more downstairs living space and a garden with a lawn area.
I like the style and look of it though.

PrivateIndoorXmas · 29/12/2020 21:33

Aw op I don't like it either but you clearly have a fab budget wo will get something you love. Don't settle for anything less, even if it means compromising a bit on location. The right home is out there for you Smile Good luck Flowers

GruffaIo · 29/12/2020 21:34

If (one of?) you like(s) modernist, how about this? www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/81497377#/

Bucks not Kent, but still has 11+ and grammars, fab garden. Does need some work and is over budget, but they may come down?

Kassalah · 29/12/2020 21:36

I would love to live there!

FlamedToACrisp · 29/12/2020 21:36

I loathe everything about it and don't think it looks worth one-third of the money - it reminds me of those lorry containers which have been made into homes.

but the point is, do YOU like it?

Biscusting · 29/12/2020 21:45

I’m not a big fan of the house, but I’d love that sort of budget to house shop!

GU24Mum · 29/12/2020 21:46

Not really my thing but for me, like some of the PPs have also said, the parking would be a complete no-no. There look to be 5 garages for the 5 houses but only Plot 4 can actually park outside the garage and so I'm sure the visitors irritate the people in the neighbouring roads by using that for overspill.

QueenieButcher · 29/12/2020 21:49

I don't hate the house, but it's a bit top heavy (too many bedrooms for the living space downstairs) and the plot / garden is way too small for me ever to be interested.

sansou · 29/12/2020 21:51

The lack of garden and space for that area for that price wouldn’t do it for me personally. You can get a lot more privacy and more importantly a much bigger garden in that area for the money.

There are other houses nearby with half an acre garden on the market for less. I would spend the money “saved” on renovating/extending one of those to my own taste.

Horses for courses....

DfEisashambles · 29/12/2020 21:52

I much prefer traditional houses with a garden but it would suit a younger modern family.

MaryLeeOnHigh · 29/12/2020 21:54

@DfEisashambles

I much prefer traditional houses with a garden but it would suit a younger modern family.
I'm not sure it would. The lack of a proper garden would make it a bit miserable for young children.
