Considering to buy a house similar to the below. Potentially maxing our budget. What are ppl thoughts. It's all very new (too new?) worried it will be difficult to sell if we do decide to move...what would you do? Buy old and do up or go fir something all new and ready to live in...

I think it seems a lot TBH. Some nice houses in the area around the 800k mark .However your choice at the end of the day .

LowlandLucky · 29/12/2020 20:14

I don't mind the design but i wouldn't be happy with next door being able to see into my house, it would be like living in a goldfish bowl.

Standrewsschool · 29/12/2020 20:14

I like the house, and it’s very near the station which is a plus. However, the outside space (or lack off) would put me off.

We prefer houses ready to move in.

Ihatemyseleffordoingthis · 29/12/2020 20:14

I LOVE the house, the spaces are great, so light
HATE the decor
LOATHE the "garden"

SomnolentSekhmet · 29/12/2020 20:15

Not for me. Too close to neighbours for that money, and no garden. Feels rather soulless but again, that might be because the series of identical houses is rather well, identical.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 29/12/2020 20:16

@mountains76

I would say that it would be a nice house for 800k. At 1.5M you have significantly better options.

As a side not, who designs the interiors of these show homes? They always look cheep and tacky, especially those awful movie-style search lights. Less is more.

Agree with this. I do vaguely know the Kent and SE London market (just as an amateur keeping an eye on it). If you had shown me the house details without a price, I would have guessed it at £800,000 to £900,000 ish. I think it's at least £500,000 overpriced.
diddl · 29/12/2020 20:17

I don't mind the house-but all that glass & nothing nice to look at!

GreekOddess · 29/12/2020 20:19

I do like the inside. I like hotel style interiors even though they are despised on Mumsnet. I don't like the outside though it's lacking something. I wouldn't buy it. For that price you could get much better.

StellaRockafella · 29/12/2020 20:19

Surprisingly, I love it although the plot is small, too small for the house.
However, I hate the decoration particularly the grey kitchen. Yuck. I must ask, is it an ex-show home? Either way, given the price coupled with the amount of work it needs to redecorate it, I'd just not worth the price.

Staffy1 · 29/12/2020 20:21

The garden would be a no for me and the fact that it's so overlooked. I wonder how it handles downpours, with all the decking and cement leading down to the house.

AliceMadHatter · 29/12/2020 20:21

@Anotherlovelybitofsquirrel

Hideous but then I'm an old house with land kind of girl! It is so boxy and that " garden" ugh. For that money you could buy some lovely houses! This is not one of them.
I could have wrote this myself. Sorry OP.

It's the kind of house that needs to be set on its own in a large and beautiful garden or with an amazing view. Not on a tiny plot with several other identical ones.

Empressofthemundane · 29/12/2020 20:24

It’s near the station. It’s a lot of square footage. Not much garden. It’s a cookie cutter house quite close to its neighbours.

I don’t know local prices, but it seems expensive to have such a small garden and be so far from London.

Bouledeneige · 29/12/2020 20:25

I don't have an objection to the exterior style (though I personally live in an Edwardian house) but I have some problems with the interior layout and design. I really don't like the hall and glass banisters - its very soulless and lacks a sense of openness and light. The living space actually doesn't look that generous and I find the division of space on the bedroom floor a bit odd - there is a very strange small bedroom squeezed in between two ensuites. And I think the lack of outdoor space and greenery would put me off as well. I think you could get something much nicer and with more character - old or new - for the same price.

Tal45 · 29/12/2020 20:25

The houses make me think of shipping containers for some reason. I think they are very over priced looking at the other properties people have put up. There doesn't seem to be any land, for that price I'd want a really big garden. I definitely wouldn't want neighbours in identikit houses jammed up next to me, I'd want detached to mean detached. This feels like a hotel not a home, I might stay there but I wouldn't buy it.

underneaththeash · 29/12/2020 20:26

OP it's awful.
Overpriced,
No garden,
Shared drive - parking issues,
Too much glass - needing cleaning (and you can't clean it yourself)
Wood will age and need replacing
Flat roof which may leak.

ivykaty44 · 29/12/2020 20:26

I like many aspects of the house but would want to swap the dinning room and utility round - why they've put the dinning area so far away is strange to me - better to have all open up and possibly separate lounge area

the feel of the house is very calm

tenredthings · 29/12/2020 20:27

You can see out the windows that it's hemmed in by other properties. I imagine underneath the rather tasteless furnishing it's rapidly built with composite materials and will look shoddy in a few years.

NaughtipussMaximus · 29/12/2020 20:27

@SilenceOfThePrams

That middle little bedroom. No en suite - but all the bathrooms are en-suite so what happens to the person in that room? Where do they go to the loo or shower?
I thought that. It’s not really useable as a bedroom if there isn’t a family bathroom available. It’s a study/office/playroom.
Bouledeneige · 29/12/2020 20:29

Oh I've just seen the garden pictures. I really don't like them. Very artificial and the house is dug down. Clearly there must have been height limits to the development. Its very corporate and hard surfaces.

Honeyroar · 29/12/2020 20:29

Really not my cup of tea at all, but each to their own. But the dining room looks very poky, as does the garden, and the next house is extremely close.

I think I like every other house that people have posted in a similar price bracket more.

Mayra1367 · 29/12/2020 20:30

Don’t think you are getting a lot for your money .

rollinggreenhills · 29/12/2020 20:31

Not my cup of tea, sorry.

cherrypie790 · 29/12/2020 20:31

It's a McMansion. Just like every other house built in the last few years. No character, no imagination from the architect. It will sell well new, but once bifold doors, open plan grey kitchens with island and pendants have gone out of fashion..... it's going to be a tough sell.

We went for a late 80s build - it's solid as a rock, good sized rooms and garden. We've needed to update some electrics/heating etc but essentially it's been a fairly simple cosmetic renovation. We are looking to move again (due to *** neighbours) and it's proving bloody tough to find something with similar room sizes and layout....
