What do you think of this house?

Considering to buy a house similar to the below. Potentially maxing our budget. What are ppl thoughts. It's all very new (too new?) worried it will be difficult to sell if we do decide to move...what would you do? Buy old and do up or go fir something all new and ready to live in...

I think it's an ugly, bland box and I hate the 'garden'. I honestly wouldn't buy that for half the price.

I'm never going to be the target market for a new house as I like old, slightly shabby places but even so I've seen some that I could live in. Not this though.

80sColourfulChristmas · 29/12/2020 19:56

@Chicchicchicchiclana

I also agree with another pp that as a zone 2 Londoner who is used to eye-watering ridiculous house prices, £1.5million for a house with no character and no garden in Sevenoaks is just nuts!

Look at this for £200,000 less in a green and leafy London suburb link

Absolutely LOVE that! Not to mention the view!

Sadly I'm hundreds of miles away and couldn't even get a mortgage on the door handle, let alone the house! 😆

MaryLeeOnHigh · 29/12/2020 19:56

I can't see that place holding its value. With £1.5 million to spare I'd certainly want somewhere with a garden that's not on top of the neighbours, and with better views.

purplerainox · 29/12/2020 19:57

It looks rather sad from the outside. The insides alright but i prefer character and it doesn't have much of that.
Everyone has a personal preference though so if you love this house then go for it! If i had that much to spend on a house i wouldn't get that one.

PortiasPlumUpduffedPudding · 29/12/2020 19:58

It has no soul, be frightened to move in there.

Mumblechum0 · 29/12/2020 19:59

Ugly
Naff
No garden
Too close to identikit boxes

Letter Box Lane, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN13

I don't know Sevenoaks so maybe the location is rubbish but I'd much rather have this and do it up with my leftover budget.

OxfordwillsaveusbyFebruary · 29/12/2020 20:00

That is one FUGLY house

Did they ask the GCSE students at the local school to do the interior design?

RunningFromInsanity · 29/12/2020 20:00

This style is right up my street.
I love modern, open plan, simplistic, grey (Blush) etc
The only thing would be not having a grass garden.

Oly4 · 29/12/2020 20:00

I love it but would want a garden and view for that price

allthegoodusernameshavegone · 29/12/2020 20:01

Bland, void of personality I think it’s already starting to date, hence being on the market.

TerribleCustomerCervix · 29/12/2020 20:01

It looks like a Big Brother house, but even they had a bit of fake grass.

thirstyformore · 29/12/2020 20:01

I'm with @Frenchfancy. Really don't like the house in the OP. I like to "live" in a house. I just couldn't imagine relaxing in it or chilling in the garden. Where would you play football with the kids?

Frenchfancy's house is lovely.

KiKiDeluxe · 29/12/2020 20:02

I quite like the design of it. But the practicalities of living in it would put me off. Too open plan (noisy), and I'd worry that the big windows would make it hard to keep warm in winter

WishingHopingThinkingPraying · 29/12/2020 20:04

Awful. And for that price you have options. Don't do it.

laudemio · 29/12/2020 20:05

Not my cup of tea, I'd always renovate than buy new build though.
The garden and house are totally out of proportion but some people like a tiny garden.
All that decking will get slippy. Not a good family house either kids want to be in gardens.

MessAllOver · 29/12/2020 20:07

It's entirely soulless... but I understand some people like that sort of thing.

Garden is unsafe and pointless for young children. No chance of them roaming happily outside while you keep an eye from the kitchen. No space for slide, climbing-frame, paddling pool. But that might not be a criterion for you. No lawn... How do you cool down in summer?

multivac · 29/12/2020 20:07

It's utterly horrible and will only get worse over time. Eugh.

Lunaballoon · 29/12/2020 20:09

I wouldn’t spend that much money on a house with so little outside space. I doubt very much it will appreciate in value.

Not for me, it’s a soulless box, no character. No garden space at all just that horrible decking. Certainly not a family home, and if you get that bedroom in the middle what bathroom do you use?

mountains76 · 29/12/2020 20:12

I would say that it would be a nice house for 800k. At 1.5M you have significantly better options.

As a side not, who designs the interiors of these show homes? They always look cheep and tacky, especially those awful movie-style search lights. Less is more.

Itsokthanks · 29/12/2020 20:12

I'd like the house if it was one of a kind but it looks like it's a new build estate. The amount of bathrooms would put me off, seems like a waste of space and is prefer bigger bedrooms and just two bathroom. There's no pictures of the garden, if it's just the terraced area shown that would be an instant no from me. I don't think you'd have issues reselling though.

Stayingin2020 · 29/12/2020 20:13

Hhh, didn't expect so many replies! I think the consensus is no which will help me convince my DH agains it! Wink also, thanks so much for the other alternatives! Please keep them coming I am new to the area and would rather travel south to Tonbridge? As you get a lit more for the money (+ a proper garden)....and have 4 DCs so won't be able to do private for all...

PussyCatInChristmasStockings · 29/12/2020 20:13
  1. it's butt ugly
  2. it's going to need a lot of cuprinol (other timber preservatives are available) over the years to maintain the exterior.

I didn't get further than that tbh. I can't believe anyone would spend 1.5m on a wooden box 😮🤐
