Considering to buy a house similar to the below. Potentially maxing our budget. What are ppl thoughts. It's all very new (too new?) worried it will be difficult to sell if we do decide to move...what would you do? Buy old and do up or go fir something all new and ready to live in...

It’s beautiful but a lot of money and as a new home you will be paying a premium you will be unlikely to get back

MrsSchadenfreude · 29/12/2020 20:33

Not enough land.
No storage space.
Overlooked.
On an identikit development.

You could get much better/more for your money. I quite like the house but people’s reactions on here have shown it to be quite a Marmite choice, so you might have difficulty selling it.

The other houses people have linked to are all better.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 29/12/2020 20:33

How much???

Sorry, it’s an ugly house. It will date badly IMO.

waitinggame108 · 29/12/2020 20:34

Don't like it

Should be 4 bedroom but they've squashed in too many rooms upstairs. Dodgy amount of doors and layout is terrible.

Downstairs is just has bad, dining room other end of the house and living room is small, again should be one room.

Tightwad2020 · 29/12/2020 20:36

OP, if that's your budget and you like modern/mid-century housing, have you looked on the MOdern House website? you would find much more interesting houses www.themodernhouse.com/sales-list/homes/south-east-england/

Cotti · 29/12/2020 20:37

Not a chance with children. There's no proper garden! It's a giant city flat made into a house.

hansgrueber · 29/12/2020 20:37

Loath the current fad for the garden shed school of architecture! The upkeep of all that wood must be awful, it tends to look really shabby after about 4 years. Never even looked at any more to be honest,

Ticketybooboo · 29/12/2020 20:38

It's hellish there when the rugby is on. Bland, and you can get so much more with a lovely garden in neighbouring places. I'm not overly keen on Sevenoaks though Grin

Empressofthemundane · 29/12/2020 20:40

Here is one with a modern vibe, on the central line, with actual grass in the back garden.

VivaMiltonKeynes · 29/12/2020 20:40

It's very uninspiring for that money and I'm a fan of modern.

RosesAndHellebores · 29/12/2020 20:40

Don't know enough about Sevenoaks prices to comment on value for money.

In my opinion the shouty wallpapers need to go and the velour needs to be replaced with good quality skandi/60s/Corran type furniture.

For a five bedroomed house it needs another reception room. The dining room is far too small and not well presented.

The garden could be improved and will be easy to maintain.

That's a great website for house porn 😍

WineTheBobbin · 29/12/2020 20:41

like the house but hate the garden

diamondpony80 · 29/12/2020 20:41

I like it but would never pay that much for it. I’m in Northern Ireland though and you could probably get something similar here for less than half the price.

FrazzledChip · 29/12/2020 20:43

I like the interior and think you could really make it your own. Obvious upside is that you don't have to muck around with workmen and mess.

The exterior is hideous though. Is it a flat roof? They can be a lot of hassle. The garden is awful. I assume buying a big house like this you've got kids or thinking of having them. Where do they play? You'd really struggle to bring any green in to this garden.

Wanderdust · 29/12/2020 20:43

This is a dream house, has the wow factor!! Shock

HerMammy · 29/12/2020 20:44

Not much for your money but I live in Scotland where that would get you a country mansion!
Looks like an office block to me, very bland and hardly any outside space.

Blackletterofthelaw · 29/12/2020 20:44

I love the house, and modern style but if that is the only garden area then that would be a deal-breaker. The inside can always be made more interesting with your own style and furniture, have no idea if that's a reasonable price for the area though 🤷🏼‍♀️

Chickychickydodah · 29/12/2020 20:45

Nope, it’s characterless and boxy.

RedPickledCabbage · 29/12/2020 20:45

I really love the house but it seems so expensive for what it is!

You can get a whole lot of house for that amount where I live! (West Midlands)

namechange202086 · 29/12/2020 20:45

I love it!

thegcatsmother · 29/12/2020 20:47

There is one bedroom with no bathroom, and no family bathroom that I can see. Where do the occupants of that room go to pee in the night?

Hoppinggreen · 29/12/2020 20:53

I quite like it but for that price I would want a bit more garden.
Also all that glass would be a bigger to keep clean
As this post shows it’s a bit marmite, which might be an issue if you want to sell it some day

StCharlotte · 29/12/2020 20:53

Hideous. I live in a road of all Victorian houses except one currently being built similar to this. It is so out of keeping, the planners should be shot for allowing it.

(Yes we could have objected but it was presented in the planning notification as a dormer bungalow for an elderly disabled lady and her carer. It's nothing of the sort and has taken so long - four years and counting - I'm surprised the lady is still with us.)
