Have finally moved in last month. We accepted an offer on our old house in December! Good luck and hope you don’t have to wait for too much longer.

cinnamonlatte · 26/11/2020 09:53

Week 24 for one single transaction. Our buyer's solicitor has been utterly useless throughout and has held everything up through a combination of incompetence, inefficiency and glacial working pace. Each stage has been like drawing blood from a stone. It has cost us thousands in rent and storage fees and we are thoroughly fed-up.

We are now at the stage where they just need to sign off internally and we can exchange. Naturally, this has taken them over 24 hours (and counting) despite being chased by our solicitor, our estate agent and the buyer themselves.

And breathe!

Week 10 since we accepted an offer on our house, but only 3.5 weeks since we had an offer accepted on our onward purchase so can’t complain yet! I would rather not move before Christmas now so hoping it takes a while and gets us into January at least

WhispersAnonymous · 26/11/2020 10:29

We are in week 8, this doesn't sound long in comparison to you guys... But a condition of us selling our house was that it was a fast sale... So everything is packed up and in boxes as we are moving in with family as our purchase isn't ready... Turns out their mortgage application has only recently gone in and their mortgage company wants to do a survey on top of the one they have already had.. AngryAngryAngry

LividLaughLurve · 26/11/2020 10:36

Our house went on the market 3rd August.

Since then, we’re on our second buyer and second purchase (with several failed offers along the way).

Hopefully it all happened for a reason as the house we’re buying now is DREAM HOUSE and I guess we needed all those things to get wrong to lead us here.

Bells3032 · 26/11/2020 10:36

Week 22 and counting for my chain free flat to a first time buyer. Still waiting for the searches for 7 weeks of that. Just useless buyers who didn't instruct their solicitor til all their mortgage was through then changed solicitor and this new solicitor is even more useless.

unicornparty · 26/11/2020 10:39

Week 21 here on a 3 house chain!

movingonup20 · 26/11/2020 10:40

We completed this week. Saw house first in mid July, offer accepted early August. Ended up being really smooth on the day but paperwork delays from slow solicitor drove me mad and resulted in a 40 mile dash to his office (across the border, police didn't catch me Grin). We exchanged and completed simultaneously which was stressful, due to covid it's what the solicitor recommends

IHeartNiles · 26/11/2020 10:58

God this thread is depressing. Week 11 for us. All good to go except for searches, all back his week. Really want to exchange before it all shuts down

Appzy · 26/11/2020 11:03

We're on week 19, and only just been told this week that our deeds have to be amended before sale so can't see any resolution before January. The house we're buying had been ready for exchange since October 😭😭
So stressed with it all!

Having an 8 month old who doesn't sleep probably makes it feel so much worse . . . I usually end up crying most nights!!

MoirasRoses · 26/11/2020 11:13

Our solicitor was the opposite, she completely disagrees with simultaneous exchange & completion, as did the rest of the chain so we exchanged on Tuesday, moving next Tuesday. To be fair, exchange started at 9am & didn’t complete until 4.30pm, which would have been hellish on moving day!

We listed on 19th August & our chain completed on 11th September. We exchanged on Tuesday and will be moving on 1st. Be 15 weeks start to finish. Chain of 5. I’ve not felt that’s been unreasonable really .. it took longer to move into our current house and that was a smaller chain, none covid times! That said, it’s not been without it’s huge stressed & im still very on edge about Covid isolation.. 😬😬

FManc · 26/11/2020 13:14

Week 19 and just completed!
Never moving again lol!

AsMuchUseAsAMarzipanDildo · 26/11/2020 14:00

Eleventy billion ... offered accepted 17th July, but they didn’t even request searches until last month Sad

SilkieCat · 26/11/2020 14:12

Just at end of week 5 here in chain of three with two house purchases, other one is end week 10. Both have mortgage offers, one has survey done, one has it next week and both awaiting searches / queries.

UnconsideredTrifles · 26/11/2020 14:13

Week 16ish ; no chain, cash buyers. I'm not sure if I feel better for knowing we're not alone or deeply depressed that it could go any slower than this...

sanityisamyth · 26/11/2020 14:41

32 weeks and counting.

That's with this particular buyer. I've been trying to sell my house for nearly 5 years. Absolutely sick of it.

thewinehasgonetomyhead · 26/11/2020 14:47

18 weeks for us!

@cinnamonlatte I could have written your post.

organisedmother · 26/11/2020 16:05

It shows it doesn’t really matter if you have a chain of 1 or 6 it’s all slow right now šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø

My flat went on the market in February last year and I moved into my new place two weeks ago.

SilkieCat · 26/11/2020 17:54

I think we might all need to hide this thread so we don't give up all hope. Grin Last time I sold took over a year and was a murder on my road and the police put a murder sign outside my house. This time I bought first as nearly had a nervous breakdown from it all last time, first sale collapsed and second sale took 5 months.Ours appears to be going well at the moment but famous last words especially with survey next week.

dizzyupthegirl86 · 26/11/2020 18:00

25 weeks for me! Offered on 8th June. Been hearing my hair out at various times. But... exchanged on Tuesday, and complete on Monday. I’m so excited but also terrified of something going wrong.

organisedmother · 26/11/2020 19:56

And I thought my 17 weeks would be one of the long ones, may aswell fully decorate my house in Christmas decs tomorrow as moving in 2020 is not happening!

Gyptian · 26/11/2020 21:44

Week 18 here in a chain of 6 and the buyers solicitors slowing everything down with their incompetence. šŸ™

FVFrog · 26/11/2020 21:56

Chain of 6 week 11. Being held up inordinately long time by a search still not back at the top of the chain ( I believe it’s an overseas purchase) and first time buyer mortgage offer at the bottom of the chain. We were hoping to have moved by the end of November, but that’s clearly not happening! Fingers crossed it’s before Christmas
