15 weeks. We are buying an empty house and selling our flat to a first time buyer. Our buyer is using a one man conveyancing band rather tha a solicitor and is awful. He doesnt appear to know the law, we were due to exchange today and got sent a list of new queries and financial demands yesterday which will take us to February earliest. I'm about ready to pull out as my rocky mental health cant take it anymore

ethelredonagoodday · 27/11/2020 17:28

Week 13 and top link in the 7 person chain has just pulled out... arrgghh!
Sold ours in 3 days of it going to market, but our seller, who's not with an agent, is incredibly relaxed/slow, and her solicitor is also slow/incompetent... chain only completed back in Oct and our purchasers were hoping to be in by Oct half term... and now with the latest change I can see us not being done in time for the stamp duty savings!!!
am really fed up with it all, so tonight we're offering our seller a financial incentive to break the chain and move out.

@dizzyupthegirl86

25 weeks for me! Offered on 8th June. Been hearing my hair out at various times. But... exchanged on Tuesday, and complete on Monday. I’m so excited but also terrified of something going wrong.
Good luck!!! Really close now!

Mortgage application been going since August, still not approved. New build off plot so plenty of time yet but it’s ridiculous how long everything is taking

user1471538283 · 27/11/2020 18:54

I'm 15 weeks and I'm just selling so no chain

dizzyupthegirl86 · 27/11/2020 20:17

@ethelredonagoodday
Thank you! Of course, 4pm today brings panic as my buyers solicitor realises they’ve forgot to deal with an issue with access - and should NEVER have exchanged without this being sorted... it’s still not quite resolved but I’m weirdly calm about it!

DiesalFive · 28/11/2020 08:19

17 weeks, simple chain of 3, we exchanged a couple of weeks ago and complete next Friday.

It's been a nightmare of stress.

FVFrog · 28/11/2020 08:35

@SplunkPostGres that’s interesting to hear as it’s the first time buyers mortgage application which is delaying our chain. It’s the only outstanding thing in a chain of 6 and the application has been in since early August. The bloody mortgage companies need to sort their shot out and unfurlogh some staff. Our chain is now in danger of collapsing. I do feel for you!

FVFrog · 28/11/2020 08:35

*shit out!

Talia78 · 28/11/2020 08:45

Week 18 - due to exchange Monday (yeah right!! Have heard that many Mondays at this stage)

Liesel65 · 28/11/2020 09:30

Finally exchanged on Tuesday (20 weeks) ! Will complete at 22 weeks. The stress involved in this incredibly slow move has nearly finished us 😰

Mumelie · 28/11/2020 15:39

Week 8 and had to pull out of our purchase last week! Nothing out there to buy at all now which is depressing

Anothernamebitesthedust · 28/11/2020 17:13

Six months since we accepted the offer. I have aged about four hundred years.

ethelredonagoodday · 28/11/2020 17:29

It is so stressful isn't it. It's the inefficiency that drives me crackers. How can it be so slow?!?

2GinOrNot2Gin · 28/11/2020 17:34

Oh this thread has depressed me!!
We accepted an offer 8 weeks ago.. made an offer 6 weeks ago, we've been told we should move mid January but this doesn't fill me with much confidence 😬

Anothernamebitesthedust · 28/11/2020 17:37

I find it incomprehensible that solicitors have been unable to find a more efficient way of operating - they behave as if it’s the 1950s in terms of pace and the way they seem to communicate with one another. I can’t think of a single other industry that has failed so entirely to find better, smoother, cheaper, more efficient ways of operating.

Seaswims · 28/11/2020 17:54

Oh wow, this does not fill me with hope! We are only on week 5. Chain of three - FTB - cash buyer and then us who are moving in with parents as nothing is coming on the market. Our cash buyer has just told us they now want to apply for a small mortgage for an extension, which is obviously going to slow things down. The searches are underway but I've been told this can take up to 6 weeks at the moment.

SweetCruciferous · 28/11/2020 17:57

Mid June we put our offer in.

Aka week 7,649

SweetCruciferous · 28/11/2020 18:01

I’ve been planning actually to ask on AIBU if I’m wrong in thinking the painful snails pace is actually a deliberate plot to justify the fees for what are essentially boilerplate admin tasks amounting to no more than a couple of days work.

SweetCruciferous · 28/11/2020 18:03

We are also not in any chain, and had mortgage application accepted quickly about 5 months ago.

Anothernamebitesthedust · 28/11/2020 18:26

This. Precisely this.
Tigergrey · 28/11/2020 18:38

Week 5 but feels like week 365 because currently living next to neighbours from hell. Just need to get away now! Had some insane dream we'd be out before Christmas but clearly not from reading this thread! 😟

You've put it perfectly. How have we not streamlined this process, it's 2020 fgs! šŸ¤¦ā€ā™€ļø
MirandaMarple · 28/11/2020 18:41

October 2018....completion 23rd July 2020.

I bit of a cheat but, yeah, it's painful isn't it?!

Yippeeforme · 28/11/2020 18:44

I think we're headed to week 9 now, starting to doubt we'll be in before Xmas given it's taking the banks so long to do anything at all. Every other but of paperwork is gone through, we've even signed our half of the contract for our purchase.

I've decided to tempt fate by putting up the Xmas tree tomorrow, then just as we're getting settled into Xmas decorating we'll get the call or email to set a completion date and will have to pack it all away again.
