Odd question about my kitchen. Pics included

I have a stunning new kitchen. I love it but it’s too much like a showroom. Other than leaving it untidy or grubby how can I make it less showroom like? You see what I mean about an odd question!

It is stunning! I'd say do nothing. Or is there anyway to get rich and brightly coloured curtains in there to give it some pow?

PaulaSmith1 · 28/10/2020 16:39

Just start using it - leave some pots and pans around, hang a tea towel and oven gloves up somewhere - how about a bread bin?

Northernbeachbum · 28/10/2020 16:43

A few more odds and sods around, pictures somewhere? Its stunning btw but I get what you're asking

LauraPalmerViolet · 28/10/2020 16:43

Little tray with oils, chilli, salt and pepper etc near the hob. Nice chopping board on the island, colourful bunch of flowers?

Indecisiveragazza · 28/10/2020 16:46

Thanks all. Good suggestions

I think you need to add some different textures in somehow to give it a bit more depth. It does look very modern, fresh and shiny though.

TenThousandSpoons · 28/10/2020 16:50

Cover the island in Lego, paper and colouring pens, exercise books, water bottles and two school bags. That’s what I’ve done and it really takes off the “showroom” edge.

Lindy2 · 28/10/2020 16:55

If you like I can send my 2 kids round for an hour or two. I guarantee the showroom look will soon become the lived in look.

They will happily spill a few things, liquids and solids for variety. Several dirty plates and cups will make it quite close to the sink but without actually going in it. Your unusual wire vase type thing also looks perfect for a few LOL dolls to take up residence in. We once had a naked Barbie live for several weeks in our fruit bowl.

Your kitchen is stunning. Enjoy it as it is.

Clettercletterthatsbetter · 28/10/2020 16:56

Texture. Maybe some wooden items, a bowl of fruit, a houseplant? Our kitchen is also quite shiny and plants really helped make it look more homely.

Or fairy lights and a cat!

I could move in! I'm sure I could take the 'showroom' look off it PDQ.

It looks lovely - just enjoy it!!

AIMD · 28/10/2020 17:03

I love it and would keep it like that personally. I’m sure over time things will naturally appear that make it less show homey.

Personally I love a kids picture wall or a wall of postcards from places you visited or something really personal like that. Not sure that would be in keeping with you beautiful kitchen though, unless you found a way to display them that fit the style.

Lily7050 · 28/10/2020 17:07

Your kitchen is stunning! I can see something purple in the sink. To me it looks liveable already, i.e. not showroom like.
I think there is no need to do anything.
Btw, would you mind to tell which supplier you got your kitchen from?

minipie · 28/10/2020 17:09

Oh when you show the whole room it’s much less showroomy OP! Agree the fairy lights help.

Maybe some potted herbs on the island? Some more things above the tall cabinets with the wine rack (baskets? more wine?!) Some pictures on the blank end panel of the tall unit?

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 28/10/2020 17:10

Staple a cat to the worktop

titchy · 28/10/2020 17:13

Is make it more showroomy by adding an open bottle of wine, and a full glass on the island. Wink

Persipan · 28/10/2020 17:13

Is there room for some sort of soft seating down the bay window end? A squishy element might take the edge off it!

Annasgirl · 28/10/2020 17:15

Can I just say I adore your kitchen. I never usually like kitchens posted on here (apologies but I think they all look the same) but yours is so fabulous I want to move into your home. I love everything about it and I adore minimalism but with style so I would add nothing (I hate clutter and post and pans all over the place). In fact, I would even hide the toaster !!! I hope you don't mind but I am keeping your photos - does anyone know how to do this? As we are redoing our kitchen (we left it when we moved in and 9 years later it is more hated than ever) in the next 18 months.

I love this - much as I try that happens to me all the time!!!

Oh Lindy, your house sounds like mine! And I now have a puppy bag full of supplies on the kitchen counter as I have no cupboard space for it.
Longdistance · 28/10/2020 17:18

I’m with @TenThousandSpoons. Just leave loads of useless shit on the work surface, it’ll soon sort itself out. I’d also add dhs newspapers which he needs to read every word on every page just so he knows he’s got his money’s worth.

Cecilia2016 · 28/10/2020 17:18

Your kitchen is stunning! Enjoy it as it is and I’m sure as the time goes by you will get used to it and it won’t be looking like a showroom.

HalfBrick · 28/10/2020 17:19

That is a niiiiiice room! Nosey question, do you have blinds? I'd be worried the neighbours would see my grotty nightwear or slightly tipsy lone kitchen discos! I'd understand if you didn't those windows are lush.

Mix56 · 28/10/2020 17:20

It's very monochrome, I would choose a colour or theme & add maybe a rug in dining area/curtains/ceramic jars/curtains/blinds/

HalfBrick · 28/10/2020 17:20

Oh I can see you do, sorry, so you can naked cook after all Grinthe app on Android is SHIT, when they make it better??
