Odd question about my kitchen. Pics included

I have a stunning new kitchen. I love it but it’s too much like a showroom. Other than leaving it untidy or grubby how can I make it less showroom like? You see what I mean about an odd question!

@CassandraCross

Janegrey333 what on earth is your problem with the the OP and her kitchen? Your behaviour on this thread is very odd.
Jealous, I would say
LuckyAmy1986 · 29/10/2020 15:30

I do get what you mean but it looks so beautiful! I am jealous! I would maybe have something wooden like a fruit bowl to soften it a bit that's all.

Plussizejumpsuit · 29/10/2020 15:34

Oooh I really like the surfaces especially and the way the continue down the sides. I've seen this before but think with a lovely surface it looks especially great. I'd say plants because I'm a massive plant fan but also because they're natural they break up the hard lines. I'd go for some lovely hanging ones or something quite shapely with interesting leaves like a prayer plant. Rather than a cactus or spiky succulent.

Chloemol · 29/10/2020 15:34

Leave stuff out in the tops, make it looked lived in

Decorhate · 29/10/2020 15:41

@Indecisiveragazza I don’t think it looks too showroom-like at all. To me it had the right mix of sleek & modern with personal touches. But if you have space, an armchair by the window might would be great.

longcoffee · 29/10/2020 16:06

You've made the error with the pet choice OP - cats are nice and delicate, don't go stomping about, trailing destruction in their path like a dog does. You want lived in, get a fecking dog.

(Can you tell I'm pissed off with the dog?)

Beautiful kitchen by the way. Lovely and un-muddy.

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 29/10/2020 16:12

It’s lovely! Could you please post a closeup of the breakfast bar stools? Ours are looking really tatty and I’d like to get some oases.😄

Re. The breakfast bar area. Beware the temptation to leave things up there. My children do it all the time and that creates a v. lived-in (messy) look.
It really bugs me, especially when they sharpen pencils and leave the shavings up there, or random scraps of paper left for days that I recycle...only to be told it was “very important. 😂

AmICrazyorWhat2 · 29/10/2020 16:13

*ideas not oases.

Indecisiveragazza · 29/10/2020 16:23

Ami, here they are. Wayfair.

longcoffee not sure about cats not being destructive - my cat does a nice line in shredded wallpaper...

Is that Edinburgh kitchen supposed to be an example of a tasteful kitchen?!

CassandraCross · 29/10/2020 16:47

Is that Edinburgh kitchen supposed to be an example of a tasteful kitchen?!
Apparently so. Imo it looks rather cheap for a £900k property, no wow factor at all.

Op's kitchen is far more stylish and classy.

It’s lovely! Although the radiator in the panelling looks wrong! Not sure why but it really bugs me, I know weird but..

Needs some lovely green plants.

WildCherryBlossom · 29/10/2020 17:12

I really like the radiator, you are never going to please everyone!

And to whoever went out of their way upthread to find the most drab kitchen in Edinburgh, it's perfectly possible to have a stylish kitchen and an EH postcode. A brief look through property listings for Edinburgh brought up lots of lovely kitchens in different styles:

I love the fact that your cat has a bottle of wine waiting by his or her bowl Grin

RoSEbuds6 · 29/10/2020 17:29

So I have dug out the info I was looking for earlier, according to Kate Watson-Smyth 'Something that I do in my home is something old, something new, something black, something gold. That works for every single room in the house.'
If you follow the link to her blog it goes into more detail, but it makes sense to me.

Baxdream · 29/10/2020 17:53

What a beautiful kitchen! It's so lovely seeing such a classy and classic design.

crimsonlake · 29/10/2020 17:57

It is lovely but very clinical, so you need to soften it somehow, but I am assuming that was the look you were after?

Indecisiveragazza · 29/10/2020 18:06

The kitchen area is in definite need of warming up........ I'm well on it.
I'll include pics to show the dining part is quite messy!

Sorry, forgot to add pics. I had no bother adding bits and bobs here but struggled with the new area. I think the decluttering vibe has really affected me......no longer😁

I'd be tempted to add some coloured blinds to the windows and some indoor plants - maybe some nice bright art work on the wall?
It's a gorgeous kitchen and I absolutely love the light fittings.

Ellapaella · 29/10/2020 18:19

Ignore me about the artwork - you've nailed it already!
