Odd question about my kitchen. Pics included

I have a stunning new kitchen. I love it but it’s too much like a showroom. Other than leaving it untidy or grubby how can I make it less showroom like? You see what I mean about an odd question!

Oh my word it is totally stunning. Your taste is fantastic, so classy.
I too think it needs something with colour and texture. Curtains or a cushion. Not this one but something like it? Texture wise?

I’d just enjoy its perfection while it lasts!

Love the showroom vibe!
Maybe you can add plants, cooking books, a nice tea pot, a fruit bowl, beautiful salt and pepper mill...
Anyway it's dreamy that way!

Be sure to not spoil thay beautiful kitchen with ugly hand wash or washing up liquid packaging.
Personally I put these guys in refillable bottles so my sink doesn't look like an advert for Fairy or Dove.

JaJaDingDong · 28/10/2020 20:11

Where is your toaster, microwave, kettle, teabags and coffee, tea towels, indoor planes, fruit bowl, pile of muddy shoes, clothes drying on the airer, cork board with reminders, pile of unpaid bills, notes from school etc, biscuit bin, cat food bowl......?

All things I have out in my kitchen.

floofycroissant · 28/10/2020 20:12

I'd say some plants, you could have a lovely large string of hearts draping of the end of the your left hand cupboards. A big fruit bowl on the island. Some big sumptuous mustard or teal velvet curtains would add warmth, but unnecessary and £££

What's the sticky- uppy thing on the island

MitziK · 28/10/2020 20:15

It's lovely, but the warmth in the lighting and walls isn't matched by any warmth in the floor - would you consider an easily cleaned runner (in a warm tone) at all on the stretch that isn't the hob, sink and oven? It'll also increase the lifespan of both anything you drop and the flooring. You could echo it with a rug by the fireplace (and I'd probably move the table so it isn't quite cutting off the end of the dining area/start of the kitchen diagonally).

A large plant or ten three to take advantage of all that natural light.

Maybe if there is room, an armchair in the window area for an early morning cup of tea when it's all quiet? Or cushions on the breakfast bar chairs (for the purposes of cat storage, naturally)?

I've got a set of utensils in a dark wood finish that look rather lovely as well, which could visually link the kitchen area with the warm wood where the table is. I'd also have a carved wooden bowl/plant pot cover.

I would be incredibly interested nosey to see how you've decorated the rest of your home, though!

I had a similar feeling about our new kitchen, it felt “cold”

What has made the biggest difference is changing the cool white bulbs for warm white - it’s a very cheap way to make it feel less clinical!

Indecisiveragazza · 28/10/2020 20:19

Floofy, the sticky upper thing 😂😂😂is an ornament thing with fairy lights in.
I’ve lapped up your lovely comments. Now I’m being self indulgent......... One last pic to show one of my favourite bits.....the circular frieze thing

I do see what you mean. It's nice but kind of formulaic and impersonal at the moment. I personally don't like windows without window coverings. Can you soften it with some curtains or something? and a pop of colour and personality around?

TruckinRight · 28/10/2020 20:45

There are lots of things you could put in that you wouldn't find in a showroom, e.g. a wall display of pubic wigs, a cardboard cutout of Bruce Forsyth, an assegai-wielding Smurf.... the possibilities are almost endless.

Janegrey333 · 28/10/2020 20:54

Is this kitchen area part of your sitting room?

That gives your kitchen a lovely authenticity! 🙂

It was designed by a designer in Glasgow.

Yes, it’s got that glitzy look over which Glaswegians go into raptures! Very much not an Edinburgh kitchen...

Janegrey333 · 28/10/2020 21:01

@LynetteScavo

You need books. Piles of recipe books.
Or even book books. They add character.

It's a lovely kitchen, but I agree with this. It's very Glasgow Westend, where the owners of the Georgian homes in Edinburgh would often be slightly more understated in their choices..

This is the kitchen of a 900k flat in central Edinburgh for example...

I'm moving in

RoSEbuds6 · 28/10/2020 21:14

You need a few old things, like a wooden chopping board, an old fruit bowl. It needs some history to ground it IMO.

Mamascoven · 28/10/2020 21:15

No suggestions but so jealous - its amazing.

Indecisiveragazza · 28/10/2020 21:18

Janegrey, no this is a separate kitchen/dining room.

See, when I'm sitting there sipping tea that'll be the "old thing" covered.
BenoneBeauty · 28/10/2020 21:22

It's lovely Op - I say to just enjoy it!

chrislilleyswig · 28/10/2020 21:30

Herbs and a fruit bowl with oranges in it

I'm well jel. It is totally stunning

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 28/10/2020 21:36
