Would you buy a house you loved it BUT only had one bathroom?

And no possibility of extending to add another?

Have found a beautiful house that ticks most of my "want" boxes and is really reasonably priced. BUT only one bathroom in the whole house!

What if two people need a poo at the same time?! Shock Would this put you off?

How many people are going to live in the house? Also, you know we will need a link!

Smarshian · 10/09/2020 21:24

Need a link. In our family set up - maybe. 2 adults 2 preschool. How many people are living there?

Redcups64 · 10/09/2020 21:25

A normal person may say yes....a person that has mine for a husband, who spends 30-45 minutes in the loo would say NEVER! It was a top priority for me and I didn’t look at a single house without 2 toilets.....I had kids to think about too god damn it...their little bladders wouldn’t have coped!! (Nor can mine reallyGrin)

OffForARun · 10/09/2020 21:26

Currently in a 3 bed with one bathroom.

My main priority house hunting was a second toilet!!! (Found one with 3, happy happy days!).

It's a massive pain sharing one and that's just two adults with occasional guests.

notacooldad · 10/09/2020 21:26

yes.

Disfordarkchocolate · 10/09/2020 21:27

I'm never going back to a house with one loo. Not even when it's just me and my husband.

Findahouse21 · 10/09/2020 21:27

Absolutely not, that would be a deal breaker both for harmonious family life and resale potential

Aquamarine1029 · 10/09/2020 21:28

No. Even if it were just myself and my husband, no way. I will not share a bathroom with any guests I may have staying in my home.

Wingedharpy · 10/09/2020 21:28

Is it another full bathroom you need or just another toilet and sink?

MeanMrMustardSeed · 10/09/2020 21:28

If I had one child, yes. Two at a push, but three and more I’d probably have to say no. What about a downstairs loo under the stairs or something? Wouldn’t need a whole bathroom.

herrcomesthenamechanger · 10/09/2020 21:29

Surely you grew up in a house with one loo, didn't you? Am I just really old?

We've got 3 toilets now, there are never two of us using a toilet at the same time. It's fine.

123456abcd · 10/09/2020 21:30

No

PontiacBandit · 10/09/2020 21:32

We have the one bathroom with a family of 4. You have to be willing to share the bathroom, privacy is long gone. If I'm showering or in the bath, one of the DCs WILL want the toilet. Occasional queue for the loo but most of the time it's fine.

Ginfordinner · 10/09/2020 21:33

No way, not if there was no way of having another loo. It would be a deal breaker for me.

notacooldad · 10/09/2020 21:33

In 55 years of living in houses I have only lived in houses with one bathroom!
They've all been nice houses. How have I managed I wonder!

GingerAndTheBiscuits · 10/09/2020 21:34

Of course. Surely the majority of houses only have one bathroom?

2tired2bewitty · 10/09/2020 21:34

We lived in a house with just one loo until dd was 4, but we were all out of the house at work/nursery a lot of the time. Now there are five of us two is sometimes not enough!

ColleagueFromMars · 10/09/2020 21:35

I've only ever lived in houses with one loo. Granted its all I know, but yeah, I would.

JoJoSM2 · 10/09/2020 21:36

There’s always a way of adding sth somewhere. Maybe a downstairs loo if no space for an ensuite?

I also once viewed a property with 4bedrooms and 1bathroom. The idea that I had for the layout was to convert the smallest bedroom into an ensuite + bathroom and convert the bathroom into a bedroom. See if you can get a little more creative with the floorplan?

BasinHaircut · 10/09/2020 21:36

I’m 37 and I’ve never lived in a house with more than one bathroom. Occasionally you have to wait a few minutes but if you are going for a massive long shite or a Bath you just see if anyone wants to pop in first. No big deal!

GertiMJN · 10/09/2020 21:36

Is there really no possibility? Cupboard under the stairs? My dB did this in their Victorian terraced house

Blue5238 · 10/09/2020 21:36

Do you mean no additional toilet, or no 2nd bathroom with bath/shower etc?
I'd want two loos. I could live with one bathroom + extra loo.
How many people will live there?

Luxembourgmama · 10/09/2020 21:38

Yes we have only one bathroom its really fine

bathorshower · 10/09/2020 21:38

It was a deal breaker when we bought the current house (two toilets, though only one full bathroom). Bowel conditions are such fun... It also made potty training much easier.

FindMeInTheSunshine · 10/09/2020 21:47

I wouldn't want a house with one loo now. I have a vivid memory of being about 10 and desperate for a wee hopping up and down outside the door while my dad was in there and he told me to go and wee in the bath! (A house where the loo and the bath were in separate rooms)
