Would you buy a house you loved it BUT only had one bathroom?

And no possibility of extending to add another?

Have found a beautiful house that ticks most of my "want" boxes and is really reasonably priced. BUT only one bathroom in the whole house!

What if two people need a poo at the same time?! Shock Would this put you off?

The garden is to the right of the floor plan, so the kitchen door leads out to the garden.

There will be two of us living there but have guests and visitors very regularly (normally!) and my son does demon poos which take 30 minutes a time Envy

I have lived in places with only one loo, usually with only one other person. I couldn't do it with a family. I have a bowel condition and if it flares up there's no way I can wait! We have two bathrooms with a loo plus a downstairs loo. I'd only go back to one loo if it was just me, or me and dd.

Stinkyjellycat · 10/09/2020 22:27

No. Never. No way. Can you put a loo where the pantry is?

Tatiannatomasina · 10/09/2020 22:27

Can you divide the house bathroom and make an en suite with access from bedroom 2?

Ginfordinner · 10/09/2020 22:27

I feel a Four Yorkshiremen skecth coming on.

Yes, we used to have outside privies and no bathrooms, then just one inside toilet. It doesn't mean that life was better and less uncomfortable for people with bowel/bladder issues.

RevolutionRadio · 10/09/2020 22:28

In there you could change the pantry to a w/c or redo the bathroom and add a toilet to bed 2.

copperoliver · 10/09/2020 22:29

Yes. Could you put a toilet in a cupboard under the stairs or something. X

This could work! But think would need to sacrifice the shower and then replace the bath with a shower instead... but a possibility!

op that bathroom is nice & big
where the shower is next to bedroom 2 could you not put wall up in bathroom & divide that room & break thru with a door into the bedroom & slot in a loo opposite shower ie put wall up parallel to bedroom 2 wall
(can someone work out what I mean & do diagram?
it would mean shrinking bathroom a bit but its large enough?

That's what I was going to say. The current bathroom looks really big.
mumwon · 10/09/2020 22:32

arg! snap!
whilst i was writing...

PrinnyPree · 10/09/2020 22:32

That bathroom is big enough to split into a bath and small ensuite off bedroom 2.

mumwon · 10/09/2020 22:33

3 great mn minds in tune! or great minds think alike! :)

Theradioison · 10/09/2020 22:33

If I loved the house that much I would definitely. There will always be something to compromise on.

bringbacksideburns · 10/09/2020 22:33

Seriously? Confused

Were you brought up in a house with several loos and have never known anything else or something?

How big is your family?
Bit bemused that couples with no kids are breaking into a sweat about sharing a loo! Grin

For me location, a big garden and kitchen would be more important.

So yes.

safariboot · 10/09/2020 22:35

Unless it's encumbered by legal issues, you can get a second loo in. It might be in an odd place, but it's an odd layout downstairs anyway.

GertiMJN · 10/09/2020 22:35

That bathroom is huge.
As others have said, divide into 2.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 10/09/2020 22:36

If there are only going to be two of you living there and you're really worried about the bathrooms, make one of the three bedrooms into a bathroom and have one each...

You have a separate dining room which can double as a guest room with a good quality sofa bed.

mumwon · 10/09/2020 22:37

alternatively a loo out the back
(Oh god that brings back some memories I would rather forget!) at least most of you that had this didn't have to worry about red backs & tarantulas! & what my dad referred to as the 14 door saloon ... PTSD shudders!

😂 erm... yes! I come from a small family and now have a small family (just me and DS) so I've never lived anywhere with less than one toilet per person. I can't imagine having to hold myself hopping around waiting for someone else to finish (and then going straight in to someone else's smell!) so that's what's made me ask...

Agree with pp about dividing the huge bathroom. You also have three reception rooms. I'd pinch a bit of the dining room for a downstairs loo and hand basin.

ShyTown · 10/09/2020 22:39

As others have said you’ve got more than enough space to add a small en-suite to bedroom 2 and I reckon you’d still get a bath with a shower over it in the family bathroom. And/or you could put a small cloakroom where the pantry is. You have of options - that definitely doesn’t need to be a 1 bathroom house and other than that the layout looks pretty good!

Porridgeoat · 10/09/2020 22:39

Is spilt the bathroom too if the house was great otherwise

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 10/09/2020 22:40

I most certainly would consider a house with only one bathroom for just two people though. It seems a bit silly to consider that a deal breaker. One bathroom between two isn't a high ratio. There are five of us and we have two bathrooms not five... Less than one between two and it's completely fine and never caused a problem.

DidoAtTheLido · 10/09/2020 22:41

There is easily enough room to re-model the bathroom and carve off the bit that currently has the shower into a WC and re-shuffle the bathroom to fit the shower in. V wasteful of space having the bath in the middle of the room.
