This is our 8th and 9th move in 9 years (we we go into rented for 4 weeks before our purchase!), we've had removals 4 of those times and moved ourselves 5 times, we're a dab hand now ha! We nearly always pack ourselves, hate others packing for us.

Removals is easier no doubt, if you've got the £1500 or so cash great, I just can't justify it when DH has an LGV licence, I have too many other things I want to spend the money on ha!

notheragain4 · 20/08/2020 08:14

I've not updated in a couple days as we seemed to have hit a brick wall. Buyer's contracts are signed and returned so we need to get dates in, but MY solicitor has gone AWOL, I've sent two emails last week, nothing. I've tried phoning him and the main office and they only have an automated message to email, emailed the central enquiries, nothing. I am LIVID.

How flipping unprofessional is that. And we are using a different company for our purchase who are superb and email within half an hour.

WTF do I do?!

kerrymucklowe2020 · 20/08/2020 08:20

@notheragain4 can you physically go down to see them ( obviously SD ). Twice I've been down to mine drop things off

With still no interest we are considering dropping the price of our house. I’m just desperate to get moving, even though my sensible head tells me to be patient and things will fall into place.

notheragain4 · 20/08/2020 08:26

@kerrymucklowe2020 it's 45 mins away so whilst not impossible, not practical while I'm working, I'd send DH but he just isn't the confrontational type so it would be a waste of time I think.

Dinosauraddict · 20/08/2020 08:41

@notheragain4 even if he isn't confrontational he can see if they're actually open and what's going on, even if he won't put much pressure on?

notheragain4 · 20/08/2020 08:49

@Dinosauraddict well I've just spoken to my estate agent and she managed to speak to him yesterday, "he's going to call" apparently. Livid. I have sent a strongly worded email. (Because he doesn't pick up the bloody phone)

Thing is I don't even know if they are in the office, they were working remotely which was why it was hard to get them on the phone initially.

Dinosauraddict · 20/08/2020 09:24

At least your EA managed to get hold of them!

notheragain4 · 20/08/2020 09:34

And breathe. He's just called and was very apologetic. We are going to try to complete next Friday! Although it depends if help to buy paperwork is back on time.

Shit we better get packing!

kerrymucklowe2020 · 20/08/2020 09:39

@notheragain4 - whoop whoop!

Nothing to report here. Still waiting for 1st Sept to hopefully see movement on the final stretch.

Packed the cupboards with the paperwork and stationery things yesterday. also amazon delivered our subscribe and save stuff yesterday in a box that was the perfect size for wrapping paper and rolls of wallpaper! I was wondering how I would get these to the next house in one piece.

I have misplaced some hooks that I found in one of these cupboards and made a mental note to use them for hanging Christmas decorations but I seem to have misplaced them within hours of finding of them. Gah. Could be anywhere and getting further and further away the more packing I do.

Bells3032 · 20/08/2020 11:09

Still waiting for my buyers to confirm a lawyer (after 8 weeks of the previous lawyer doing nothing). I realise they're probably nervous about doing their due diligence with a new lawyer but it's been 4 days. how long does it take to chose a lawyer from those recommended by the EA? I don't want to speak to the tenants about moving until they've confirmed what they're doing.

Getting annoyed as this would of all been sorted and ready to exchange now if they'd been upfront from the start (I realise they were trying to be helpful but still annoyed).

kerrymucklowe2020 · 20/08/2020 12:12

I've half heartedly packed some boxes and Christmas decorations. I rang for a removal quote and the guy that answered seem bemused at the questions I asked ( re floor coverings, sofa protectors, even laughed and ask why I needed to know if anyone smoked!!! Maybe I'll leave that one then

OP posts:
Bells3032 · 20/08/2020 12:27

@kerrymucklowe2020 yeah leave that one. I'd also like to know if someone with smoke on their clothes are going to be all over my furnishings

ChristmasTree999 · 20/08/2020 13:32

Hello everyone I’m still here reading your progress. You all sound as frustrated as I feel. Technically we are about ready to exchange, however there are 2 small documents to come from my management company, one of which apparently can’t be ready before sept 7th, so nothing happening before then unfortunately.

kerrymucklowe2020 · 20/08/2020 13:57

@ChristmasTree999b- how frustrating for you

OP posts:
Notyetthere · 20/08/2020 14:02

@kerrymucklowe2020 yes same here. I started half heartedly packing but it starting to look like we are ramping up the packing as there are boxes in almost every room now.

@ChristmasTree999 everything in our chain is completed apart from us; we are waiting for valuation survey and offer. Both our buyer and our vendor have already prepared and sign TR1s and Contracts. I reckon just after the survey they will want us to get a move on very quickly so we are packing in anticipation of hopefully not holding anybody up any further. And the fact that we are moving ourselves means we need to be super organised, and declutter so that we only move what we really want to take.

Still panicky though; when I popped into the shed earlier today, the stuff in there! We have already decluttered but still a lot of stuff to shift. I also think it was made worse by the free boxes I have collected to use for the move so all piled up in the shed. I might just start tidying in there just calm myself.

ChristmasTree999 · 20/08/2020 14:03

I’m trying to let it wash over me now @kerrymucklowe2020 ! And give myself permission to start packing...

ChristmasTree999 · 20/08/2020 14:06

This is the first time anyone in our block of flats has sold one, so I think the management company didn’t have all their paperwork up to date unfortunately.

Buttons4491 · 20/08/2020 14:19

27/07 DIP approved
13/08 Offer accepted
18/08 full application submitted with Halifax (buying in Scotland)
20/08 MORTGAGE OFFER RECEIVED!!!

notheragain4 · 20/08/2020 14:22

Moving into rented for 4 weeks. What do we do about addresses?! I really can't be arsed to change our address on things for 4 weeks, I know somethings we won't get around like Sky and utilities, if we don't change anything else will we struggle getting finance, do we list the temporary address or not? What addresses are checked?! (We need to get finance for our sofas!)

Bells3032 · 20/08/2020 14:27

Euch so fustrated with my EA. They said they'd let me know before they spoke to my tenant and that they'd help them find somewhere else. I got a call from my tenant saying the agent told them to put in their notice and then lie about it for the mortgage forms. Then rung them back and told them to forget the previous call. I am so confused on what mess is going on with the agents - they've been my managing agent for the flat and they've been brilliant until last week and now everything has gone wrong. If they weren't the managing agent i'd have moved my flat sale to a new agent. I am deeply deeply unhappy with how things have gone so far. it was meant to be a nice, easy landlord to landlord sale....and 8 weeks later i am told i need to evict my tenants and they want it vacant and the agents knew this for weeks.

I have tried to be a good landlord. I should of just sold it when I moved in with my now husband in 2018. Would have gotten more for it and wouldn't have had this headache. I am such a fool Sad Sad Sad

Bells3032 · 20/08/2020 14:28

@notheragain4 can you just do a post office forward?

Wherewhatwhy · 20/08/2020 14:47

@notheragain4 Royal Mail redirection? But I thought minimum term was 3 months. Nothing to stop you setting up another after 4 weeks I suppose?

Today marks 4 weeks since we applied for the mortgage. It should be straightforward! We are both employed and borrowing a low ltv- I never thought it would take this long but it seems all lenders are swamped with furloughing half their staff plus backlog plus flurry of new market activity. Surely it can't be much longer?!? If it takes us this long I'll have forever to wait for our buyer's mortgage offer to be granted.

notheragain4 · 20/08/2020 16:11

@Bells3032 oh how frustrating for you, it sounds like you've done all you can, it's always going to be a risk with renting sadly, it's not your fault.

Yes we will be doing a mail direction for this address, it's more about living somewhere temporarily, what do we HAVE to change (like Sky to get the internet) and whether that's enough to trigger it being an address that needs to be included when you do finance checks. Like car insurance, we are legally going to have to change that to be covered.

But in good news, exchange set for middle/end of next week, completion for Friday 28th! Fingers crossed.
